When a cold wind blows it chills you, chills you to the bone- wait, is that why you like it, 'cause Scrooge is relatable?

Most people don't realise the film is a tragedy - the story of the one right-thinking man in a city full of losers, who has his life ruined by malevolent spirits. It's heartbreaking.

Well I suppose that's the problem with Muppets, always trick you into seeing positive where negative resides. They should come with a warning label.

SHAZAM! (2019) 2/5*

I knew nothing of the Shazam source material but I really liked the trailer so I was quite excited to see this film based on that alone; it looked fresh, funny and fun and it didn't seem to be ashamed of its campy roots. However, it only took me about 20 minutes before I decided that I was not enjoying what I was seeing.

From the start one of the things that fails is the editing and chronological order of the scenes; is it really a good idea to start off the film with the villain's back-story instead of the hero's? The start is also quite muddled as we're not given any explanation to the 'how' or 'why' this is happening (or what that 8 ball thing was about). The messiness continues with the hero's eventual introduction but its another flashback. This then leads into a scene in the present day where the hero is trying to find his birth-mother; a sub-plot which basically has nothing at all to do with the rest of the entire plot and feels irrelevant and tacked-on.

But the worst thing by far about SHAZAM! though is the God-awful awkward comedy. Yes, the trailer was funny (thanks to the quick cutting) but in the film each joke just falls flat and not one person in my theater laughed. And then there was the annoying kid sidekick; in his first few scenes he tries so hard to make one lame joke after the other and is so instantly unlikable. The Asian kid was annoying too and I just cringed at every stereotype and joke they threw in (video-game geek, internet nerd and nunchucks?! WTF?). And he looked like a younger version of Long Duk Dong in SIXTEEN CANDLES (1984).

There are obvious similarities to BIG (1988), THE GOONIES (1985) and (mild spoiler:) * Power Rangers * and not in a good way. The film was also far too long and out-stayed its welcome. SHAZAM! was pretty SHE-YITE! and probably the worst film of 2019 so far for me.

Endgame.  I need to watch it again so it's good I've got a ticket for next Saturday as well.  There was a lot to take in.  There are some flaws and some 'huh?' things but it really was brilliant.  An apt film.

Casino Royale (2006).  Seen it before but bought a collectors copy and actually watched the extra's as well.  It's always a good film to watch and a worthy first film in the reboot.

Younger Daniel Craig in sunglasses on the extra's looks surprisingly like Richard Madeley

Endgame......twicw so far and want to see it again.      Loved it.. amazing movie.     I laughed, cried a lot and gasped from start to finish.     Kinda bitter sweet tho as although filn was epic sad this is end of this phase.

Shazam....... a bit slow to start.   Enjoyed it once it found its stride.    Wouldnt rave about it but would watch again.

Hysteria.  Interesting film based on true events about a historical invention - how much is true though, it looks like very little in reality.  Impressive cast for what was a small but watchable film.

Tolkien- I am a fan of The Lord Of The Rings, but for whatever reason I never felt the need to research the man behind the novels. I loved his work, and that was enough for me. As soon as I found out about this film, I was interested. I have no idea how accurate it is in reality, but the story that this fil goes by is a good one.

Nicholas Hoult is excellent as Tolkien. Again, I have no idea what the real man was like, but Hoult does a great job in the role. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Sir Derek Jacobi in this as one of Tolkien's teachers. The other characters are hit and miss in my opinion. Tolkien's friends are a key example. For most of the film I thoguht they were fine, but there were points where I didn't like the, be it due to both acting and writing at times. The script for this film isn't the best.

From a production standpoint I think this film was fantastic. The cinematography and direction was excellent, and the set design was brilliant. The costume design was great, and the score was very nice. I loved how the film intercut segments of Tolkien's life with his experiences at the battle of The Somme. It helped keep the pacing up, and the Somme sequences were beautifully shot. The usage of special effects was limited, which I think made it more impressive when they were utilised. The action sequences, although brief, were well executed as well.

I did find that the second act dragged a bit, and the plot was pretty formulaic and predictable. There were emotional moments, especially towards the end of the film, which I appreciated.

Overall- 6/10.

An unfortunately predictable story, with a rather weak script, which is saved by excellent acting from most of the cast and excellent cinematography.

This film has also finally motivated me to research Tolkien's life for myself, so it'll be interesting to see how accurate this film was to his real story.

I know I'm late to the party but I thought Avengers Endgame was terrific. I won't say much to avoid spoilers but it was a fitting end to the saga (until the inevitable reboots ).

Tolkien was a good historical biopic, which certainly gave an interesting insight into his early life with some pretty graphic scenes. Even if you are not a Lord of the Rings fan you will enjoy this.
