Feedback - Saturday problems and other things

After the 2015 chaos (I didn't attend last year), all IS far better this year, so the Showmasters team deserve credit for their hard work in turning things around...

However, I arrived for the Tom Wilson tombstone photoshoot that was included with my diamond pass at around 15:15 yesterday (on all staff schedules, and those shown around the venue, it was due to end at 15:30) only to be told that "he started early and finished early" and had now gone...

Am I missing something here, or doesn't this defeat the purpose of a timetable?

The worst thing was that nobody I spoke to seemed to be able to offer an explanation, or definite answer/solution and one of the SM crew was very short and rude with me (which is baffling, because I remained pretty damn chilled, despite the mixup)...

I was passed from the photoshoot area to the information desk, then from the information desk to the sales desk, then the sales desk back up to the photoshoot area. The end result being that I should be able to use my diamond pass (marked Saturday) today. I seriously hope that's the case...

But dayummm SM... Please address this!

I had this down as a 15.05 start from the online schedule. Got the pic ok. Sure you read the right time?

Well Saturday I was just a general entry ticket. Got to venue at 9.30 and was in by 10.04. Was quite surprised if was waved through with no bag checks.

I found the autograph area quite chaotic and hot and stuffy. My suggestion would be to spread out a little more and clearly mark walkways/where to queue as it was hard to tell where queues ended and it was just people standing chatting. More than once I accidentally wandered into a queue trying to get across the room.

I do agree the bag checking was poor.  we didnt get checked any day...even today when we arrived at 10am as our first shoot wasnt until 12.20 and we have all autos we want already..and no kne was queuing etc so no reason not to bag check us and we were told just to go straight through.  on sat the guy did go to bag check us but just at that someone came up and told him to start checkig 2 in every 10 bags so wavex us in again.

To clarify I wasn't trying to promote other events, which is why I didn't mention them. All I'm trying to do is improve the LFCC experience for myself and everyone else in the future.

I hope you take the suggestion on board.

You were not directly, but three others were.  I just wanted to solve everything in one go before someone types faster than me again.

For the DP and the GP to be in earlier and GA to not be running or walking around like headless chickens only to find the guest they want at 10:30 to be VQ 337+ please please can a map of where the guest are placed be included in the programme.

The map was posted online. It's unlikely something like this would be in a programme because too many things can change on short notice, even throughout the weekend.

I only really have 2 comments: main stage nowhere near the photo sessions in future please (and also arrange in such a way that people aren't just sitting and eating in that area contributing to the chaos) and given the times we live in security was, well, let's say a tad minimalist re the bag checks.

One thing id like to point out is the security of the event. A very basic bag check was done on the way in, but 1 stall I saw as was selling knives, huge swords, daggers and lock knives. Dose this defeat the object of bag checks? The latest London attacks were with knives so maybe having such stalls inside is a bad idea? I said at the check what are you keeping yr eye out for and he told me knives, guns and explosives. But I was not body checked. I also found a side door manned with 2 crew doing hand stamps, but I was able to walk back in the same way with out even being seen by the crew. By slipping behind them. It's a habit of mine of spending most of my adult life In the security and health and safety industry I always keep my eye out for things like that. It's a worry that a stall that is selling weapons is inside a building that's carrying out bag checks for such things. Mite be an idea to note that one down when in meetings for next year.

The stalls have their own security meassures. And honestly, if someone is planning an attack he very likely won't spend 200 quid on a replica knife. There's been one in Germany just this weekend and a kitchen knife was used.

We've said it before, security is totally handled by the venue. The crew manning the doors is doing what they can. Body checks may be done if someone is deemed suspicious. But checking everyone upon entry... an event in the US tried that and that didn't go so well.

Looking at the schedule, this was only from 15:05-15:15 with Christopher's straight after.

Daughter missed her photo shoot with will Wheaton on BBT set, due to chaos and being sent to wrong area. Then had to spend 2.5 hrs trying to find a red t-shirt person, as no one wanted to help. Only to find the said person was in unmarked event clothes. Thus leaving my young daughter to fend for her self in the chaos of line control of photo queues...

Why was will Wheaton photo op so early after opening and for such a short time.

Not happy as also had no areas with chairs to sit on, loads of spare chairs in main stage, but told to move. My husband and myself had been wearing special help and carer bands. Also being told not to touch will Wheaton on photo shoots, what's that about, it puts me off going to other events. Only went as 16 yr old had her heart set on it.

Apologies you had such a bad experience and also your daughter.  in regards to no touching some guests do have that not all are tactile but above that he is known germaphobe so def no touching.   he was great on my solo shoot still being friendly and warm w/out having to shake hands etc and he is happy to do non touchy poses such as wacky thumbs up he did in mine and a few others :)

One other thing. I know it's only a minor niggle but out of 5 photo shoots today not one came with the collector booklet because every area had run out :(

and most prob got thrown away.   I personally didnt use mine as i put my photos into a protector as do not want them damaged.  seen people sitting theres down and leaving them and a few people picking them up to use them.. but yes today in our PM shoots we didnt get them.

They should be optional, not default IMHO.

We arrived at around 8.15 and went straight to collect our diamond passes which took about 15 minutes.  It was so much better to collect the passes before going into the hall.  I was worried that I would not be allowed into the hall with my plutonium case but I had put paper over the signs saying plutonium or radioactive and whilst in the queue for Thomas Wilson the crew member said it was a very sensible idea.  I had my items checked and was allowed in no problem.  I did notice that security had dogs with them and that was highly reassuring to see as I believe they would be trained to detect explosives which after Manchester was a major concern.

I was a bit later getting in yesterday (around 9:30am), was pretty insane outside even by then. Queues of people were being escorted by security, joining the backs of other queues, being split up again if there were any gold entries.

I was doing my best to find entrance H as recommended on here this week by you fine mods for extra help/disabled etc and was sent to five different entrances. At the fourth the security chap sent me around one more corner to the left. At the fifth the guy said no you were at the right one before. In the end he said "follow me mate, I'll get you through" (words I instinctively trusted) and got me the extra help and carer bands I needed.

I appear to have completely bypassed any security checks however, but I'm incredibly grateful to the chap for the effort he made to at least get me in. Would have raised this at the info desk whilst I was there but the queues were huge and I had to dash off for my first photoshoot.

still, once that was over I had a wonderful day asides from the initial getting in issues.

Yes, I noticed that too, the lack of security checks for those us in the Extra Help queue. As we went in the other direction from the security checks, there should have been another table for our queue at least.

Wil is like that, covers anxiety issues as best he can. Same at DSTE last year.

A friend of mine who has spoken to Wil in the past says he also has a lot of reactions to perfumes and deodorants and that's why he has a no touching rule. Which to me is fair enough

Still a lovely guy too, especially if you're lucky enough to have a chat with him in the autograph queue.

absolutely.. we are paying for a photo and so long as a kind acknowledgement is made eg a hi as you walk up et  then I am happy.    They are human and not everyone likes to be pawed and he was thoroughly nice.eve  doing goody poses in the photos which made the non touching photo less awkward  so turned out really good :)

I got a fist bump after reaching hand out at the autograph desk. Just would of been handy to know off staff at the paying desk beforehand and I would of just said thanks.

Personally, I always take my cue from the guest, especially as we may not always be told if they have a no touching rule. I won't put my arm round them until they have put their arm round me.
