HalloSpaceboy
Seems like no one is alone. Gonna be my first convention too and any apprehension is pretty much moot (aside from meeting Shatner haha). robmoriarty
I will be going by myself as none of my friends are Trekkies. It's no big deal for me as I have attended a few conventions on my own before. Not sure if I would have the confidence to go to the party by myself afterwards though! By the looks of it there's quite a few of us by ourselves so as someone said we'll hopefully meet up and attend the party as a group. I hate attending parties alone so even though I have my tickets I'll only go if we do arrange a meet up im game for that, lets arrange something shall we all? a place? a time? maybe a facebook group chat so people can chat to each other, get to know each other a little? Happy to help coordinate through the non official FB group if you wanted to join it. Nearly 200 of us there if you search for the event name. micayne68
This is my first trip to the convention and I am staying for the sat night to take in Shatners one man show. Booked the tickets already and certainly not worried about going alone. My kids are older and have plenty to do and pretty sure they are more than happy to throw a party when my back is turned. A few tips would be greatly appreciated so that I can get the best experience. Coming up from Suffolk. Mike
Raylenth
A few tips would be greatly appreciated so that I can get the best experience. Coming up from Suffolk. Mike Wear comfy shoes and expect the venue to be hot with all those people there. Take breath mints so you can have some before you meet the guests. Have something rigid to put your autographs in but let them dry thoroughly before you put them in - silver sharpie in particular takes a little longer to dry, it's not ages but just make sure you give them a moment to make sure yoou don't smudge them. HalloSpaceboy
I'm thinking of going to the Saturday night party...Can anyone give me an idea of whether it be worth a gander if I was relying on a train home? I'm considering stopping over but it's depending on guests the moment.
CosmicAvatar
I'm going on my own (may see one or two familiar faces at the con, though). Not going to the parties, but you'll probably find me propping up the bar in the Hilton at some point.
DrBungle
Solo outing for me also. Doesn't bother me, pretty much everyone at conventions is easy to get on with so always plenty of people to talk to.

AnyaWilcara
I'm staying at the airport Travelodge, saving up plenty of coins for the buses. I read they only take exact change. probably cheaper to buy a day pass. I will most likely get a taxi on the Sunday. Jamesmd85
I'm staying at the airport travelodge too. Does anyone know how much for bus and taxi from the hotel to the NEC?
AnyaWilcara
I've decided to stay till Monday, so i'm not in a rush on Sunday to get the train at 6pm. more time to relax. I need to work out how much money I need to take with me, I've heard the buses are exact change only, so if anyone knows the cost please let us know . Jamesmd85
That's a good idea staying the sunday night to save rushing about. My flight home isn't till 8.40pm on Sunday night so I should have much of a rush as the airport is 5 mins in a taxi.
AnyaWilcara
I just found this http://nxbus.co.uk/files/NXWestMids/misc/Faretables2016forweb.pdf It's the 900 I think, trying to make heads and tales of it. Looks like £1.90 or £4.40 for a day pass actually £2.30 I wish they put lines on this thing, I my have to print it out and use a highlighter lol Edited August 21, 2016 by AnyaWilcara
Jamesmd85
£2.30 for a day pass is pretty good actually. Would save a fortune getting taxis back and forth.
AnyaWilcara
It's 2.30 for a single, £4.40 for a on peak day pass, still better value. Seeing a 2 of the days I will be traveling the bus at least 4 times. Edited August 21, 2016 by AnyaWilcara
Justkate
Will also be using the bus! Thanks for the info! I guess you can buy a ticket on the bus??
Ultimatequinoxe
To the best of my knowledge you can buy a ticket on the bus or coach (as the 900 is run under the national express umbrella) but it needs to be "exact change". ("a coin in the hand is worth two in a box" a wise man once said, and if anyone gets that reference, you are nearly as sad as I am )
