Hi Mods,

So now that the production people and Beryl Vertue have been listed as guests, does that mean that platinum passholders will get a photo shoot with them (like the group shot last year?) The listing for purchasing tickets does say

1 x in-person autograph with each attending guest including any Lead Guests announced.
1 x individual photo shoot with each attending guest including any Lead Guests announced.
(But they haven't been listed in the photo shoots sections yet.)

I wonder if it might be explained how the "Package value if purchased individually in excess of £850." for the platinum ticket might be reached? Pls enlighten me.
Each human being might have various reasons to visit a convention - mine is BC or MF.
Announcing Lead Guests (which indicates more than one) is another nasty way to get peaple buying tickets.

Yes, my posting is personal and emotional, but hey - even though it was never been said BC or MC might be attending - I'm feeling not like a valued customer.

With respect Pia, I know you said you are writing from an emotional perspective but you should never buy expensive tickets on the assumption that certain people will attend, and if you do, you buy them accepting the risk that the people you want may not attend. I'm sure that we are all dissapointed that Martin and Ben are not attending but unfortunately that's life.

However you look to be correct about the package calculations, by my reckoning it currently comes to about £515, not including the entry price. I haven't included the photoshoot with Michael and David as it obviously doesn't have a price but I'll probably only be out by about £10/20. I may have missed things though,

I was giving Sue/Steven a value of £25 in line with the 'Rents and Michael/David also a value of £20(£10 each) just to add up the value of my Gold ticket. The Entry ticket value must be at least £55 if you minus off the cost of the £15 Speedwell ticket that is not included. We have to give the priority queuing/seats in talks at least some monetary value (as well as the goody bags) but I still don't feel that would add up to £850 for Platinum or the £500 for Gold. Don't get me wrong, I believe my Gold ticket is worth the money but maybe closer to the £350/400 mark.

Yes, still even one of them by themselves (or even both of them) still wouldn't have added up to the £850 estimated value. I really feel it's the talks that have lowered the cost of the packages this year. I'm pretty sure that the talks came to over £150 over the weekend last time and this year they are only £50.

You are absolutely correct Raylenth. That's a completely personal trust-problem I suffer.
Usually I would not have raised my voice, because - as said - it's my problem. But in comparison to what is promised the ticket is not worth the GBP850 as stated on the offical ticket website. That's the main issue I've got.
Therefore I like to repeat my question to find someone (staff I suppose it should be) explaining the difference between what was promised in writing and what I (we) get now.

P.S. I really appreciate this fair and open discussion without being "hated" for my opinion and question. Thanks a lot to all of you.

I'm sure there are some people who are disappointed, but there is so much I want to say to the Daily Fail and all the rest. I wil put it here instead.

This convention is not The Cumberbatch Show, The Freeman Show, or anything like it. It is a convention for fans of Sherlock - a tv show. Of course it would be fun if the leads were there each time - but no-one ever promised that. Even if either had been announced, they might have had to pull out due to illness or other commitments - your choice to purchase an entry ticket or package in no way guaranteed you access to any individual.

As is evident from the discussions on this forum, fans of the show are queuing up to attend, to hear more about the production as a whole - where else do the set designers and the sfx people have such a following? What is more interesting to fans of the show than to be able to hear Sue Vertue, Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss talk about how the films are created? What an amazing opportunity to see behind the scenes on the sets, and to hear how the costume and hair and makeup artists create the look which makes the show so popular! Frankly I would consider the cost of my ticket well worthwhile just to see all the production people talk and have the chance to ask them questions. Having some or all of the onscreen talent there is a bonus.

If you're determined to see Benedict, then go to the red carpet for the premiere of Dr Strange, or queue at stage door outside his next theatre production. You can do that for nothing, and hopefully won't then be disappointed if he doesn't turn up to meet you. He might! But choosing to pay to attend a convention where he hasn't been announced as a guest is not the way to do it.

If you love the show and want to find out more about it, meet lots of other fans and have a good time seeing just some of the people you admire who make it so special, then this weekend is for you. If not, then you shouldn't have booked.

Rant over.

Edit: By the way this isn't intended as criticism of Pia, or any individual - just at the mess or reports I'm seeing across social media and in the press. I am just frustrated and annoyed that there seems to be wilful misunderstanding of what the convention is about,

Very well said.

I have no specialist interest in the behind the scenes stuff but I LOVE the fact that they are at the convention. You are right in that it's amazing that we have been given unprecedented access to the sets - I may be wrong but i can't recall any other time I've seen that attendees have been allowed on them, not just looking at them from behind a barrier. My set shoots last year are amoungst my favorite shoots out of all the one's I've had done at event over the years.

Hearing their stories and seeing the items they bring and demonstrate is a real privilege - of course the actors are the main focus of the show but it really wouldn't be the program it is without the also amazing sets and production values. The scenes with the field/bed in ASIB and Sherlock falling after being shot are some of my favorites because of the brilliant way they were filmed and getting to meet the crew who are responsible for things like that is beyond value. And that's not even considering Sue, Beryl ect, the people who are the driving force of it all.

I've often wished over the years that we could get directors ect as well as they are just as important as the actors.

Sherlock fulfills that and more.

P.S can we have some of the directors as well please :whistling:

I personally don't understand how people buy an expensive package while waiting for Benedict or Martin. It's a lot of money if you're counting on just Martin or Benedict and possibly even ONLY buying the package in the hope they come.. well, I just can't wrap my head around that.

I was waiting on Andrew for example, I booked everything as soon as he was announced, my flights ended up being twice as expensive as they usually were because 3 weeks is quite last minute. I chose this way to avoid disappointment and even told myself I wouldn't mind paying more if that means I'm actually sure and have a plan instead of to just 'book whatever'. It's personal preference and we all do our own thing, but booking an expensive package in the hope Martin and / or Benedict are coming is really naive, in my opinion.

The big gap between actual and promised value just isn't ok and it's totally unlike Showmasters. Last year the packages were absolutely worth the money, but this year it looks like a weekend ticket + extras would have been the best option with the best value for money.

Furthermore the value of the packages has been emphasised several times on the website, in the shop and e.g. in a statement from Mark on Facebook (“if you were to add up all the individual parts to the ticket separately then they would come to almost twice the value of the ticket price”).

I'm not focused on the big two (BC, MF), but I get it why people assumed that at least one of them would be there ... the downgrading of the ticket packages, but at the same time the promise of a very high value, pointed to that direction.

As Showmasters is known for enjoyable and good value events I hope that they'll find a fair solution ... it's not an insignificant amount after all.

Usually there's always been additions to the contents of the packages if something happened that put the contents really out of whack - at the Massive Events shows the number of guests going down significantly for example. I recall group shots being added for example for the Chevron Gold Passes.

This could well happen when the group announcements are made which should be tomorrow. And if not then maybe closer to the show. They're always working on trying to get more guests. I am really not trying to get anyone's hopes up for Martin or Benedict, but it is absolutely possible we still get announcements.

It's a win/lose situation all around really. I don't expect either to be announced at this late stage, but there is always an element of 'you never know'. Either could turn around and say they will pop in for a couple of hours if they are around. If in the very unlikely event that were to happen, it would be brilliant for those of us there but for people who haven't booked a ticket there will be a lot of complaints about how they hadn't booked because they weren't announced and how could the organisers do this last minute.

Maybe for some readers/writers I created a misunderstanding. I did not just book to see BC or MF. I've got my pics with both of them already, as well as autographs. Not to forget I attended last years sherlocked as well.

On a side note, please consider, that each and every person might have another reason to go to conventions.

My main reason to start writing was the discrepancy between between value and promised lets say denomination. Up to now the plat-ticket price is just close to being covered....
But as stated on the page as well... "Guests may be announced right up until the event opens."
Last but not least, I went to several "Chevron's" run by Massive Events and always enjoyed those events - so I still think that the issue might be solved one way or another.

As I said, Pia, my rant wasn't against you in any way - it's just I'm hearing so much criticism across other social media and in the press that I am frustrated by people railing against the organisers because they've paid lots of money to see BC and he won't be there, and rags like the Mail are painting all of us as rabid Cumberbatch fans who've paid massive sums of money and are terribly, angrily disappointed that he's not attending. All of us on these forums are clearly big fans of Sherlock and that's why we're going again this year, and we understood that unless and until a guest is announced, we shouldn't expect them to be there. That doesn't seem to have been the case everywhere.

I do agree that the Platinum ticket doesn't look like such good value this year - there's nothing exclusive to our package, like there was last time (autos with BC were restricted to Platinum and VIPs) and at the moment it looks like what we are paying for in good part is the priority placing in queues. That matters to me, as I missed enough of the talks last year anyway that I don't want to miss more by standing in photo and auto queues. I've taken the decision to go for the more expensive ticket, but it would be nice to see Showmasters/ME recognise that at the moment we don't seem to be getting anything much extra for the sum we've paid, and perhaps give us a last-minute boost to make us think it will be worth buying a package again next time, and guaranteeing them the initial income that brings.

You get to take the guest of your choice home for the weekend?

LOL No weekend needed. A nice dinner with funny chatting would be enough ;)

It does occur that if they wanted to pad out the value of the packages a bit then they could follow a similar route as they did last year and give out a pre-signed picture or two. My guess is even if there are future events that we probably won't see Freeman at one but maybe a pre signed 10x8 would be better than nothing.
