The new book project from bestselling author James Frey, Endgame will publish on 7th October 2014. The first in the trilogy, ENDGAME: THE CALLING has been written in collaboration with Google's Niantic Labs and comes with the opportunity to win a prize of $500,000 in pure gold.

 

Released simultaneously worldwide in thirty-six languages, Endgame is a multimedia experience integrating Frey’s trilogy of novels with Niantic Labs’ geolocation augmented reality game, which will launch soon after the book.

 

The trilogy chronicles twelve ancient cultures chosen aeons ago to represent humanity in Endgame, a global game that decides the fate of mankind.Endgamehas always been a possibility, never a reality… until now.

 

In this first book, twelve meteorites have just struck Earth, each one containing a message for a Player who has been trained for this moment. There is much at stake for the Players: saving their bloodline, as well as the fate of the world. And only one can win.

Each of the three books will feature an interactive puzzle comprising clues and riddles layered into the text, as well as in one million key locations across the real world, bringing the hunt to life for readers and gamers.

 

At the end of the first book and when the puzzle is solved, a key will be found and $500,000 of gold nuggets can be claimed by the winner. There will be a new prize of gold nuggets for each book.

 

What's more, the gold will be on public display in a bullet proof glass case and will be claimed, live on YouTube, for the world to see.

A book will launch each year with interstitial novellas published between books to keep momentum going for the project. These novellas will be the players’ training diaries.

 

In addition, 20th Century Fox has bought the rights to the Endgame series and Frey is currently writing the script for the first film. The deal encompasses the three books and nine interstitial novellas. Films will be produced by Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, the producers behind the Twilight Saga and The Fault in Our Stars.
