Some people on here are nuts....simply nuts - why argue with each other over something you will not decide upon and have neither the experience nor industry knowledge to say who is right or wrong.

We are all fans and the last thing we should do is turn on each other.

FYI - American cons are far - FAR more expensive....I should know I attend at least 5 a year in the states. We are lucky at the prices we get here....very lucky.

VIP individual guest passes work....simple as that and they always sell out in the states so clearly there are enough people willing to pay to guarantee the experience they want - as with everything in life / you get what you pay for. No one is entitled to see the guests for free etc or to still pay cheap prices. The only way you control numbers is simply price people out of the market - seems harsh but I think it's at least a way of not giving false hope and people will know where they stand.

I feel for anyone who can't get everything they want in life - but there are plenty of things I can't get and I never ever begrudge people who can.

As far as cons go I have a large budget and would be able to finance more expensive experiences so I am in favour of restricted ticket packages with auto/photo/meet and greet.

Please don't think I'm being a smug fellow here I am just being honest.

Us fans shouldn't turn on each other but you think that SM should price some of us out? Nice, real nice!

Just to be clear only on the most prestigious guests such as Stan Lee or other A/B list actors......there is only a limited amount of time and if say 5000 people want to meet person 'X' and there will only be enough time for 1000 to do so - then I simply would put the price of 'X' higher to limit the amount .....its called supply and demand. In effect this is exactly what happened with Stan Lee, Dealers, Gold Pass and Silver who pay a premium to be there got all they needed. So that's what was done for this event it just wasn't taken on board by attendees (despite SM warnings that the higher passes would give you the chance). Then at least people would know if you turn up on the day you would have virtually no chance of getting guest 'X'

So not putting the entry price up, not putting the regular guest price up.....just the top few guests. This has been done at many events.....I paid £250 auto and £255 photo for Stallone.....many more wanted it, but there was not enough time, so higher price takes one section of the queue out of the mix.

This isn't a new idea....think airplane seats, 14 First, 72 Business, 40 Premium, 300 economy.........THIS IS HOW THE WORLD WORKS.......I'm just being a realist.

'so higher price takes one section of the queue out of the mix.'

Yeh people on low incomes who save through the year to go to an event like this and have as much right as anyone else to meet guests. People with families trying to get by. Students who struggle on part time jobs. People with disabilities who rely on saving part of their benefits month after month to come, people living off national pensions, people who have to consider what they are going to have to give up for a little while in order to come to comic con. People just like some of the people on this forum who have to budget and save and scrimp. People who are just as much a fan as you are.

I cannot believe that anyone would openly suggest that this is the right idea moving forward. At the end of the day if you cannot afford to fly first or business class you can still buy an economy seat which is a guarantee that you will be on that flight.

Out charging a majority of people who come to your event DOESN'T make business sense.

The answer here is better organisation. NOT taking away the chance for people poorer than you to meet the people they love and admire.

This is an experience that should be open to all NOT just the privileged few.

I think you missed my point - I'm saying a Stan Lee type guest would be first class and you can still get you economy £15 guests as per normal.

Plus airlines oversell as a policy so no a ticket does not guarantee you a seat!!!

Really? So those on a lower income only deserve to see less famous guests?!? I suppose it is our own fault for not being able to get higher paid jobs.... how dare we expect equal opportunities to see our heroes.....

Would you like a use my shovel to keep digging? Actually don't worry, you can afford to buy a bigger one to keep digging this hole....

We attended on Saturday.

The fact that the Book Zone only rates a line or two in this statement underlines the feeling that we had about the event. YALC was treated like the poor relations at the wedding, shoved into a small space at the back.

We felt that the organisers woefully underestimated how many people would attend the event for the authors. There were no virtual queue tickets for the authors, and no space allowed for queuing to meet them.

I believe the numbers of book fans attending prove that YALC has enough support to be an event in its own right next year. If not, then please have the sense not to put Children's Laureate Malorie Blackman within 10 yards of the queue for an A lister like Stan Lee. And have virtual queuing. One of the volunteers tried to move us on because we were blocking the area next to Stan Lee's queue and people couldn't walk through the area. He was incredulous when we explained we were queuing for Derek Landy. Authors have fans too, mate

I could be wrong, but I think YALC wasn't organised by SM. It was a separate event inside LFCC as a taste of what could happen. It was the first one so they just needed the space and venue to try it out. Obviously it was a big success and I'm sure they'll be considering doing it standalone next year. YALC has it's own website/twitter feed/contact details so you should check those out to pass your comments along.

I always thought Showmasters ethic was to be accessible to ALL the fans....they prided themselves on not going down the devisive and greedy way of separating guests into financially "elite" groups...:(

Wait, I think people are assuming ALL prices will go up, when Jason only said that they MAY implement a system where the biggest guests (usually 3/4 people) will have an EXTRA ticket option. Basically a mini gold pass for one guest (that includes what you want from them).

It wouldnt replace the normal/average prices for those guests, just as the gold pass doesnt. It would just be a 'hey, you REALLY want that guests and all their options? here's a package for you'.

And how many of these special packages will there be for each guest? 200? 300? Some guests don't sign much more than that each day anyway, add in the normal gold passes and your normal entry person wanting a VT is being priced out of standing a chance to get the big guests.

I'm not saying don't do it, just have concerns about how it will work in practice and the knock on effect to your average punter.

This weekend it was pretty much like that for Stan. Don't have a gold pass then you don't stand much, if any chance of meeting him.

Hate to contradict, but I had a standard pass for Friday and an Early Bird ticket on the Saturday. I managed to get an autograph from Stan on the Friday (thanks to the red shirt at Brompton Hall pointing me to the right place to queue, and being there at 4.30pm) and got a photo with him on Saturday, which I had pre-booked. No issues in either instance due to not having a Gold Pass...

I too would like to thank staff and volunteers. Agreed that people that turn up on the day were rude and not organized. I was first to the organizers booth and had to wait as a man got every card rejected before he yelled rudely at his wife to get her card. However SM can do nothing about that, although I would love to organize an extermination of such people for anyone interested. I have read comments about the air con, it did seem really stuffy in the Carrie Fisher and Ian booths, although they did have walls up so maybe that was a factor with all the people. My comments were about lighting, my camera has quite a bright flash so I turned it off to prevent blinding guests or had it on lower, but some pics kept coming out orange from the odd choice of lighting. More importantly for me is photo shoot tickets. SM have no control over guests commitments, but quite a few guests had to pull out last minute, but even for those who pulled out earlier, it seems a waste of postage to have to wait for a refund and then order for someone else. Could people not be entitled to an online voucher which can then be used and an email sent to them, 2.50 postage is quite a lot, especially as I had to keep changing the layout of my day and guests to meet. Other than that I had a truly lovely day on Sunday, always avoid the Saturday, and am looking forward to the next, volunteers and staff were amazing, now to look at my bank balance and cry a little bit :)

So essentially Jason you have;

dismissed pretty much everything that went wrong

blamed the people who turned up at the event rather than your poor policing

made up some random entry times that supposedly everyone got in by - despite the many people stating that isn't true

thought of a new way to make even more money by charging for an exclusive new ticket that guarantees an auto from an A lister

brushed over all the issues that were happening outside the event

repeatedly patted yourself on the back and congratulated yourself for doing an excellent job

This is why your events will never improve. In your eyes you can't do any wrong and do not learn from your mistakes.

I've emailed an official complaint which I will await a response to in due course.

Ha ! Well said will be interested if you get a reply.

That's the way the world works, not just events. The train fares cost me £65, I wouldn't expect them to let me on for £15 just because I had less money to spend.

This is true. And when you consider all the costs involved elsewhere that won't be kept down just to be affordable to everyone, if SM did always keep things down, they'd be making huge losses on everything as everything else would be going up.

So despite what people may think about prices etc, it's an overall picture of the world rather than something event specific. They can only be so reasonable within their means.

How has the "Make it more expensive so the poor people aren't in my way in the queue" post managed to stay on here?

Not what I said was it....

I didn't even go for Stan Lee as I had already met him, but limiting by price doesn't stop 'poor people' as YOU labelled them. As somebody pointed out you can save up :-)

Plus who actually thinks it's acceptable for people on benefits to be spending money on this sort of stuff.... I sure don't! That's not where OUR taxes should be going is it.

Nobody was in my way - I had no issues over the whole weekend, got everything done, it was too hot in there though!

I was offering a suggestion on a control method - once again to be CLEAR I have and had no problems with entry, photo ops, autographs and I had a fantastic time.

I think it is perfectly acceptable for some people on benefits to spend money on this, people on disability especially. Those who cannot work get more than those on say, Job Seekers because it is unfair to ask them to live on the breadline when there is nothing they can do to change the situation.

At the end of the day if someone on benefits decides over the course of a year to put a little of their money away for something like this does it matter? If they budget their food more, socialise less, cut back on essentials just to come to comic con then that is their choice. They are not receiving more benefits than everyone else, just choosing to spend it a little differently.

At the end of the day what they or anyone else does with their money is none of my business.

I will say that I probably got about 20-25% of what I wanted from the show and I'm fine with that. I never expect to be able to afford everything, and while it's a shame, it's the same as me walking into any shop and not being able to get everything I want at the same time.

Agreed because it is exactly what I do! I know how to the budget the money I receive and as a result I am to put a little money aside every time I get something into my bank account. I don't think I should have to miss out on something I enjoy because I am on a low income/benefits. To be honest I have heard of people who have a good income claiming they are struggling because they do not know how to budget, meaning they have to miss out on the things they enjoy! As my dad said to me, pay your rent, pay your bills and then the rest is for you to do as you please!

So you are naïve enough to think that there is equality in the world? People don't deserve to get less than another....but if you can't afford an Aston Martin you can't say at the dealership "please can I have one because I deserve it!"

Thank you for the offer of the shovel, but I have a groundskeeper with a JCB. (I jest of course!)

This is a business not a charity - remember it is your 'heroes' as you put it who have agents and have decided upon prices in order to cover logistical costs and MAKE MONEY.

The fan argument doesn't wash with me........in fact a number guests prefer dealers.......because this is an income for them and the more they sell the more they make. I think its great and I would do exactly the same if someone was willing to buy my autograph.

I will not apologise for being successful and having disposable income.

If the price is higher then it will naturally control numbers.....better off people might not want to pay £100 for an autograph BUT a less well off person can still save up so my idea excludes nobody just limits the 'willing' and therefore might make the event more manageable.

plus a lot of people come to the event and spend nothing other than the entry ticket....now they are in my/our way just sucking up air & space for people who want/need autographs, photo ops and collectables. I wish some people would not just sit around on the floor doing nothing - go home and have a chat don't block queues by sitting on the floor.

I'm pretty worried about the comments stating that we should limit the number of tickets each person is allowed to buy at a time.

Do you mean at the venue or overall? I bought about a dozen photo/auto/talk tickets before the event then about 10 on the day (because the online shop closes nearly two weeks before the event).

I don't see why there should be a limit on the number of tickets you are allowed to purchase.

We all do have one thing in common, we are all fans so it's a shame to argue about this.

We all have to adjust budgets accordingly and make our own decisions within our own means, we do this everyday with what we buy in terms of other purchases.

In fact we've been doing it for Showmasters events for ages as well, gold passes have been around for years, we have to decide how many autos, photoshoots etc we can afford.

And it is really basic economics and supply and demand at the end of the day, if the costs do go to high and a ticket doesn't sell enough to make some money, it's not likely to be available again, but I think we clearly saw with the amount of sales for Stan this weekend, the demand was certainly there.

Just another thought...

I forgot Showmasters also ran the Destination Star Trek in the Excel 2012. I can't help but noticed that they've abandoned a lot of the lessons learned from that event. (is it a different crew that organised that event?)

The autograph zones were in fact sealed off with dividing walls. The whole perimeter was surrounded with these walls about 25 meters deep. About a third of the way in was a stand where you could buy an autograph ticket, then the rest of the area was to queue up for the guest, ticket in hand. It was really orderly and easy to manage.

The photo queues were better organised as well. They were using queue polls to seal off the area with everyone else fanned out across the entrance area. A crew member would shout out which VT numbers were being accepted at this time. It was extremely efficient and gave me confidence. I knew from my ticket number that I likely wouldn't get called for another 20 mins or so, so I wandered off for a bit and came back later, confident I wouldn't miss my place in the queue.

The main shambles was the talk stages. On the Friday it was just a case of turn up at the stage early and you'll get in. By Saturday they'd reverted to a ticket system, but neglected to tell anyone. The main problem here was that the free talks stages were too small to handle the number of people in the event. The paid talks were well organised though and took place on a much larger stage.

I'm worried that you guys are looking for feedback to improve the event when in fact you've already done so much better in the past. I can only surmise you have a different crew now or perhaps a different crew who handle the Star Trek stuff?

How about a LED sign above the person signing showing the VT numbers. This would get rid of the VT wipe board stating ticket number and would also mean that you would see the sign further away, so as not to keep moving to the front of a queue to see what number its up to.

There are other events run like that too. I do think the problem here is that LFCC has a lot more guests than DST. So you would spend a lot more time in the autograph area.

Its such a shame to see that 95% of posters on here don't think its right to increase prices but the moderator is agreeing with the 5% who do. Think we know there will be price increases next year. Also its roughly the same percentages who think removing posts from view is wrong but the mods agree with the minority who think its alright again.

To be fair, I agree with David's reasoning. Prices do go up, whether we like it or not. Showmasters can decide not to book guests that are more expensive than GBP 15 per autograph, but then we're back to a minor roles only convention and those have gone belly up all over Europe, because people aren't that interested in them anymore.

Can you please view MY opinion as based on my experience and my £££ please? Hey, if SM could lower all the prices so I could get all the photos and autographs I wanted then great! And if the dealers could lower their prices so I could get more merchandise too, that would be fantastic.

My opinion isn't based on being a moderator. It's as someone who has attended these events for 11 years. SM will keep prices where they can for as long as possible, but sometimes things have to change.

But hey I'm just a mod who isn't allowed an opinion right ;)

I agree with David, While i myself am in education, i have a small part time job. I dont see why prices should not increase on A type Guests, i understand that people want it "fair" but sadly the world doesnt work like that. At the end of the day guests are preferences, for example person X might value Tony Blair's autograph at £100 while B at £50. Attendees can decide who they would prefer but i feel that if prices are higher (although not massive) then perhaps more people could see said guest because Queues are shorter so less time consumed through queueing etc.)

This is my personal opinion and i would support to an extent any decision made if i feel its "in my interest" (after all the changes are only important to how they affect YOU)

I wouldn't even pay £50 for Tony Blair's autograph! ;)
