Dean Cain had a table shot with me... but not anyone else?

So i went Sunday as i was on holiday until Saturday night and if i am honest, it was the quietest i had ever seen a show.

Met Dean Cain - what a dude, lovely guy and he did a couple of photos with me over the table, maybe as it was about 4pm Sunday.

Robert Englund was lovely and talked to me and my girlfriend for a good 15 minutes - all that was missing was a comfy chair and some biscuits.

I also met Mark Rolston, he was really nice.

Still a good show but can't believe how dead it was...i felt bad for some of the guests :(

At one point later on Saturday I saw him have a few taken. His agent was trying to extort £5 out of people for doing it though from what I overheard.

That's an american thing I believe. They charge for table photos at events there.

But as others have said, respect the signs whether you agree with it or not. The whole "don't ask, don't get" attitude really annoys me personally. It can and has caused problems at these events in the past, it puts the guest and the assistant in a very difficult position and can spoil things for the people that follow. Before anyone says I'm being silly, I've seen it happen.

It does happen in the States at cons from what Im told and from what I've heard. I just didn't think it was a nice thing for the agent guy to ask for a fiver from people. I saw him calling people over who were taking photos from a distance and asking for a fiver. From what I could gather they very politely told him to forget it and rightfully so lol.

On the other hand what right do those people have to go around taking photos of the guests without their permission. When I approach a guest, I always ask if it's ok to have a photo even if the person in front did. There could be all kinds of reasons why they may not want to at that time.

Try doing that or even ignoring the signs and asking for a photo at an American event and you'll be escorted out and banned from going back in.

And yes I know we're not in the US but it seems attendees are a bit more observant of the rules there and maybe a bit more enforcement here wouldn't go amiss sometimes.

Sorry Michael, but if there is a "no posed photos" sign up, then there really should be no posed photos. If there wasn't a sign up by the end of Sunday, then that is different, and they may have made the decision to take it down.

The sign is not just popped up there for no reason, and it is unfair for all those that respect that and don't ask.

Those that posted on here are not suffering with green eye syndrome, just pointing out that rules/guidelines are meant to be followed, and that they did

I never ask if that sign is up

Absolutely - if people start encouraging each other to break the rules then what's the point?

It's not about jealousy. We're all there to enjoy the same events, and I wouldn't dream of potentially ruining it for other people. It's just selfish really.

If one person asks, then another asks, and suddenly the guest is in a bad mood and the crew are stressed and having to deal with pointless situations etc.

Attendees should just respect the rules. It's pretty simple. This isn't necessarily in regards to the original poster, but anyone suggesting that signs should be point blank ignored are completely wrong.

Well I can say quite honestly I had zero interest in getting either a photo or a signature from this so called Cain so there's no green eye from me but I think it would have been unfortunate if others had missed out if he had left the event early (as others have done for far less) after getting fed up with people asking for photos when it was clearly signposted otherwise.

don't listen to the folk on here mate, it's great you got a table shot with one of your idols..think there's just a bit of 'green eye-ness' above lol.

.

Not in the slightest. Some of us dislike those who break rules as they don't see why they should apply to them. Oh but its just being cheeky, dont ask, dont get you say. What the heck, let's all go around asking guests for photos when the signs are up and see how long it takes them to get annoyed and disappear.

Maybe in this case he was just too polite to refuse. Sometimes they may be happy to do so for another reason but doesn't mean it was right to ask in the first place when the sign was clearly visible.

Clearly I'm one of a minority of people to

whom rules apply and there's a whole section of society to whom they don't.

Just as long as we're clear on that. That would explain all those people I see ignoring the rules of the road on my drive to work each day. Silly me for not realising.

there are loads of reasons why a guest might not do posed photos - bad eyes, headaches (from flashes), bad back or joints so can't keep getting up or down etc. Like people have said - the signs are there for a reason.

On the flip side I was sat with a guest on Sunday and people were randomly taking photos from distance - he just said "why don't they just come over and ask". His reason was that its a nicer photo than one of him mid conversation or drinking a coffee etc.

I think it's unfair to put a guest in the position where they have to say 'no' when there's already clear signs up.

Whether it's because they don't want to, or they're ill, or whatever else - if it's someone I'm a FAN of, and there's a sign saying no, then I will absolutely respect that and I don't question it.

The last thing I would want to do is put someone I respect in a position where they feel awkward or annoyed with me etc.

It's like when people chase celebs down the street for an autograph or something - really? Do you really want to take that autograph home and every time you look at it you remember how bad the situation was? Bizarre.

If the guy who was with Dean was asking people to pay 5 pounds for a photo at the desk then there should really have been a sign up saying "£5 for posed photos" rather than "no posed photos". You also have to remember that there were a lot of first timers to the event that may have thought no posed meant he won't pose for a photo hence them asking. In future, why not have signs say "no photos with"? Could be easier.

Whilst I was waiting in line and I saw some people ask something, Dean would look to his agent and the guy would say "no". You could tell Dean seemed quite uncomfortable with this. From being a fan of his for years, he is more than happy to have photos taken with fans.

I did however read a post on Twitter from someone that said Dean would not sign their cape. Maybe Dean's agent should have made it clear that other items would have a different price (as he does in the US) rather than refusing right away.

This was Dean's price list from his last US convention:

Autographs "flat item" (like photos) = $40

Autographs "other" (I would assume capes would fall into this) = $60

Signed polaroid with him = $40

Signed polaroid with him + one pic with your camera = $50

Professional Photo Op = $50

Perhaps that could have happened here also? Weren't the boxers charging different prices for different items?

I agree. I noticed that Vic Mignonga (sorry if its not spelled right) had a sign saying 'over the table photos £10' I cant remember the exact amount it may have been more but at least it was signposted.

of course the lack of that notice with Dean Cain wasn't down to SM it was all down to Cain's agent. But if a notice had gone up then at least people would have had a clue. I didn't meet him over the weekend but I did over hear and see what his agent was trying to do and i didnt think it was right to be honest.

It wasn't right at all and I bet a lot of disappointed fans walked away which wasn't Dean's fault or SM. Let's be honest, if a sign had of gone up stating a price, he would have made a lot more money than what he already did!
