the crew were all helpful and lovely, which was great; as were all the guests I met. Also a special thanks to the crew and guest (not naming who) for putting up with my incredibly rude companion. (if you know about this incident, i'd rather you didn't say anything. already almost cried yesterday about it! :/)

Oh you poor thing! If you worry this much about someone else, you must be sweet. I'm sure you balanced out any rudeness by your companion.

Well today I was cosplaying as Abby Sciuto (I'll put a picture in a minute :) ) and a few people asked to take photos of me so if you can, can you put them on here?

Oh I liked your Bert hippo! It was a lovely costume, I didn't get a photo, wish I'd asked so I could have sent one to you!

OK so my feedback:

1) Maybe double and triple check the yellow shirted security know what their instructions are. I know it's not SM's fault, but it seems security need it spelling out really clearly. I got there Saturday at 10:50am with a standard ticket. I could see signs on the doors saying pre-paid entry, so I asked a yellow shirt where I had to go with my pre-paid ticket. He said queue up. Err OK, I assumed that, but where? All I could see were a handful of people milling about loosely on the steps. Finally he waved vaguely towards the right (up by EC2). I queued up in the baking sunshine and when I got near the front, I realised he'd directed me to the queue for people to buy tickets on the day. Despite me showing him my ticket. Genius, that guy :chair:. On Sunday I decided to go for a more reliable source - I saw a queue down the other side (towards EC1) and asked the other con goers, not security. Result? In the right queue, and inside very shortly after 11am. I even met a lovely girl called Imogen who freaked me out slightly by not only going to Uni where I lived, but being born within a few miles of me! Talk about small worlds.

2) The venue seemed small, yet there was plenty of space to move around in (excluding the walkway from Photo A to Photo B which was the highest foot traffic walkway). Well done SM, you found the venue equivalent of a TARDIS! :P

3) It was absolutely baking. I was really feeling for the guests who would have to put their arms around very hot and sweaty people. Even with deoderant and face powder, there's nothing you can do to dry a damp-backed tshirt  Luckily I think I was OK and hopefully didn't gross Arthur Darvill or David Tennant out :P

4) Nice guests - Arthur said hi and how are you, and David was smiley, saying hello and then thank you after. It sounds like he was even this happy at the end of photoshoot 2. What a lovely, positive person.

5) Malcolm - thank you for taking your best photos of me yet! :YAHOO: Normally I don't like photos of me - I'm hit and miss, ether looking horrible or lovely. I go much better behind the camera! But a little extra make up this time helped me, and Malcolm gave me two lovely photos with Arthur and David. Thanks chuck! I keep looking at them and smiling :D

6) Thanks to those crew members who answered my questions on Saturday, so I could tell me friend who's on crutches. And thanks for helping her out by letting her duck in at the front of the two queues she had. Especially as she'd had to lose her Saturday tickets so she wouldn't damage her knee more and ruin seeing David and Armin on Saturday.

7) Aside from the rugby scrum to collect David Tennant photos (which led to much swearing and growling under my breath), the general crowd were quite lovely and friendly - I chatted to a few people while queueing for the photos, and the dealers were friendly too. A very happy bunch - look what a little sunshine will do ;)

8) I'd suggest moving people clockwise round the tables when popular guests like DT's photos come back. Stagnant people help no-one - the people at the back can't collect their photos to create space to put down the photos of the people at the front. Crowd mentality took over and was very frustrating - it's logic 101, people. If we can't get to ours, you won't get yours.

Thanks again SM - I've only done LFCC and Collectormania with you before, so EMS was new. I didn't do any talks this time as I usually just accompany my friend who had to severely cut her con time down to only an hour due to her knee.

Now I'm going to get my already half eaten jar of Fluff from the American candy stall

The pay in advance tickets have never guaranteed you get in before everyone on the day. It's likely the queue moves faster, but they're not sold as such.

People just need to be aware of what they're buying.

HI David.

What is the point of buying earlybird tickets if they do not guarentee you getting in before other people who just turn up on the day? Even the steward in the queue said we had wasted our money and left a lot of angry/disappointed people.

It's not good business sense for any business to blame it's customers when things are not right. It's alright saying that people should know what they are buying but enough people arrived with the same misunderstanding to warrent a different approach by the organisers.

I read on this forum that previous E&M Show events had not made a profit. I think that this problem could be a factor. We are the customers who have made a commitment and paid in advance to attend the event. We are the customers which any business should be looking after - their bread and butter. We were left feeling angry and disappointed when I realised that people paying for tickets on the day had got in way before us.

We had further trouble when we asked how we got out of the venue for a break. Someone on the info desk led us to the stairs and said to go out this way. Another member of staff walked us down and then opened a door which we discovered was the fire exit. When we went to have our hand stamped, the guys gave us lots of attitude because we had come down the wrong way, even though we had been escorted by staff. Luckily we had kept our ticket stubs, or we would not have been allowed back in. We were being talked to like we had commited a crime.

I appreciate all the hard work and effort that goes into arranging an event like this, but unfortunately instances like the ones detailed above will have a bearing on whether I attend again.

I like to end on a positive though, and Ian McNeice was lovely - a really nice guy and it was great to asee so many Doctor Who guests!

Hi there,

I know a lot of people buy Early Birds in advance so that they have less to worry about on the day. Many people buy things online simply from an organisational standpoint i.e. they don't want to have to worry about how many people will be in the queue on the day, they like to budget etc. There are many reasons.

Sadly, what you're complaining about is not getting something that wasn't actually offered in the first place. Yes, it would be nice for you and others if you got that benefit, but truthfully it isn't something that Showmasters sold you.

I don't mean to sound harsh but I don't know how else to put it. If that's the ONLY reason that you want to pre-book then I'd certainly suggest not doing it, because there's no guarantee you'll get in earlier than everyone else. In theory, the Pay On The Day queue SHOULD go slower because they all have to pay the money etc, while the Pre Paid just show a ticket and they're done.

I've always personally felt that people should not be punished for wanting to pay on the day. Do they deserve to go in after you? Not everyone likes to shop online for example. Or they may not have the money until the day. Yet they're still buying exactly the same ticket as those online, aren't they?

It's not blaming anyone, it's just simple fact. I'm just looking at it from a realistic standpoint, and that is that you're disappointed at not receiving a privilege that you were not entitled to anyway.

The heat was far too much

Still no proper queuing for ANYTHING, whats wrong with barriers for queues? ppl line up all over the place creating confusion

The photo pickup point for David Tennant was an absolute farce. Surely someone may of thought to either, print AND DISPLAY them out in batches, even if its say 1-200 200-400 500+ etc.. it wouldve helped. Having such a tiny area for over 1000 pictures was asking for trouble. Especially when half the table was empty, idiots still stood around that part of the table, not moving when the staff asked them to move along or go away.

This just caused the people who actually were trying to look for their photo an almost iimpossible task since crew were asking people to keep moving, walkin anti-clockwise and GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY if you dont see your photo. amazed how many people just stood there like gormless zombies camped 4 people deep stopping anyone else from looking for their photos. It was clear when the tennant photos started to fill up the table there were going to be LOTS of people unable to get a look. Someone needed to:

* SHOUT for EVERYBODY to clear the table, using a crew to walk everybody at least 6ft away from the table, then pick 2 random ppl to start a moving queue around the table, in an anti clockwise direction WITH THE CREW MEMBER ushing folks into the queue. This wouldve been the only logical way of helping things along in this awful situation of a free for all of photos on a tiny area with 500 people all trying to get there at the same time.

Surely the camera saves the images in file numbers, and when printed in that order the pics can be put in ROUGHLY the right area such as in batches of 200 and seperated from other batches! I know sometimes more than one shot would be taken and ppls pic may end up in an earlier or later batch but at least it wouldve allowed a majority of people to get their photos much quicker

Oh yeh the light is still apalling in EC1

Defo never going to an EC1 show again

Some really good points...however:

SM have no say in which order the pictures come back from the printing lab...anyone who has put a large batch of pictures from a holiday (on a memory card) into a printing lab is likely familiar with the fact that the order you get the pictures BACK, rarely corresponds to the order the lab was GIVEN them...

As for the photo pick up point...a great idea. In theory. If the public there would not even step back 6ft when asked....how are the crew to enforce this anti clockwise rotation? They certainly cannot get overly forceful, not without causing a riot, or generating a MASSIVE set of complaints. And if being people refused to move when asked...raising the volume of the request is unlikely to yeild better results!

As always, with the best plans and systems in the world...if members of the public refuse to cooperate, the plans fall apart. That being said, SM listen to all reasonable complaints and suggestions, as shown by the gloves and slight improvement in Photo distribution set up.

All of this being said, pretty much everyone, crew, guest and public was great this weekend. Everyone I met and talked to was really nice, in spite of the heat. Glad to meet everyone I met, and hope to see you all again.

:)

This was our first showmasters event and we had a Great time. The Guests were all lovely & friendly & the staff helpful and kept things running as smooth as possible which must be a daunting task with the amount of people attending. I thought overall it was well organised with obviously a few hiccups but the only hectic bit of our day was the constant running up & down checking where up to with David Tennant Auto's & Photo's. If anything was announced over the tannoy regarding numbers being called we couldnt hear what was being said clearly, it was just muffled sound. The collection of David Tennants photo's was chaotic but i really felt sorry for the crew dealing with that side of things as they seemed to get a lot of stick from people but it wasn't really their fault, but i agree with above that some other form of system is needed for collecting photo's of the bigger guests. Food in the hall was also far too expensive. But overall i would like to thank the organisers & helpers as we had a FAB time. :)

brilliant weekend, so many lovely guests and fab staff from showmasters.

only real let downs was a certain voyager crew member and the heat.

i attended with my 12 year old daughter and we were kids all weekend. Eve Myles, caitlin, Armin Shimmerman & of course David Tennant stand out but everybody was brill.

i thought the staff were so helpful and the more you had a laugh with them and spoke to them other than their job which they were doing the more nicer they got.

but a nice note in future if people are looking for pics on the pick-up table please remove back-packs as its so damn rude, lol

My one disappointment was when getting evanna's auto she wrote it right across her face...why she thought that was ok was beyond me.

Was that today? I was her guest assistant and everyone who wasn't happy where she signed, or had wrong colour, we made sure they got another one.

Some of her pics made it really difficult for her cause its half light and half dark so she signed where she felt the autograph would best show. If your not happy just give the assistant a nod, let us know, its no problem for her to do it again (though you dont get to keep the wrong one ). Or maybe look at your photo before and decide where you want it signed and what colour you want it in advance then let the crew know so they can make sure its done right for you :)

Sorry your autograph was not perfect for you  I could have fixed it if you gave me heads up

This was my first ever event I've come too in London and was quite daunted by the prospect of attending. Overall we had a good time, all of the guests I met (David Tennant, Paul McGann, Eve Myles, John Hurt, Arthur Darvill & Anneke Wills) were lovely. All of them were very very friendly and put me at ease. The photoshoots went very quickly without feeling rushed, I was pleased about this as I do get anxious being in queues. I also have to applaud most of the celeb queue organisers for using common sense and being kind enough to allow me to join the shorter queues to avoid overlapping with photoshoots I'd organised.

One thing I was wondering, if you get a personal item signed are you still allowed to take one of the prints the celebs have? I got my Dr Who book signed from Kate O Mara and also took one of the pictures too, I'm not sure she was too pleased with that as she looked a bit startled and began talking to her assistant, did I commit a faux paus????

The downsides to the weekend include the unbearable heat inside the venue. If you walked past certain spots you could feel a breeze from the air con for a few moments then it went. It was way too warm inside there, however I don't think this is anybodies fault as nobody would want to spend all day in that sort of heat.

I also had an issue with one of the oranisers. After having my photo taken with John Hurt and Arthur Darvill I asked where I went to pick up the pictures, the lady said "Come back in 2 hours and we'll have a better idea". After a few hours my wife and I were sitting on the floor by the celeb signing tables at the back of the hall. We were wondering if they were ready and so I asked one of the organisers as she was passing if she knew where I could pick the photos up from. I got a very dirty look off of her and she bluntly said "Well where did you get them taken? Go back and ask them" and then she walked off. My wife and I were pretty surprised about this and I must say I was not happy with that at all. I asked a simple question and just got a snide disinterested answer back. However she was one bad apple and I found the other organisers to be wonderfull, helpfull and friendly.

As everyone as posted before, picking up the pictures when they arrived back was quite a chore. Originally I thought it was a line you queued up in, after 5 minutes of standing there it became apparant that everyone was just blocking space waiting for their picture to appear. I do understand the waiting, people presume that if some are out there's is bound to follow quickly. That said it didn't take me long to spot my pictures and make off with them.

The food and drink there was outrageously priced. £4.50 for a pasty and £2.20 for a normal sized bottle of coke is an absoulute disgrace. We brought our own food and drink today and would do so in the future. It was an unpleasant surprise on the Saturday though.

There was a lack of seating available but that wasn't really a big issue, there was plenty of floor space to be had and nobody seemed to mind if you plonked yourself down in a corner.

Non of the above really spoilt the weekend for me as the plusses far outweighed the minuses. Even the delay for the Paul McGann shoot wasn't that bad as I spent my time chatting to a very charming couple of girls in the queue (one of whom I passed pleasantries with on the train back to Liverpool). Overall we had a good time, it was very tiring though and my feet are still hurting from the walking around (and standing still). However I would like to say thanks to Showmasters for popping my con cherry and making it a very enjoyable experience.

Had an awesome day, thanks Showmasters :D

Got to met everyone i wanted to and they were all friendly and happy, particularly Paul McGann :D

Crew were great as per and very helpful (except one)

Both photographers rock and my photo shoots turned out fab :D

Hall was emense, was great to be able to walk around without getting squished !! And what i couldn't find i asked, and got shown the way :D I was even let into the DT photo q before my number was called so i didn't miss my next photo shoot.

The heat was unbearable at times, didn't think a place that size could heat up so much phew ! Although it didn't help by what i was wearing

One gripe - photo shoot collection - not a lot SM can do if people DON'T LISTEN

Overall a great day

I have to say i had a great time and the only thing i didn't like was after waiting for hours for my photo there was a possibility that it wouldn't be ready by closing time and that if that happened i would have to pay the £2 and have it sent to me, which luckily didn't end up being the case as it turned up in time.

The free 10"x8" provided by Showmasters are designed primaarily for people who do not have anything to get signed. If a lot of people, who have their own items to be signed, take them as well then there is a good chance that they will run out, which is not fair for the people who are relying on them. Just something to be aware of.

Another thing to be aware of is that guests quite often bring their own images, which may have been the case with Kate O'Mara. Kate may have been chatting to the assistant to clarify things if a similar situation arose again later on in the day. Don't worry about it.

You are usually allowed to take a 10x8 if they're not running out. If I'm not getting one of them signed I often ask if it's okay to take one anyway. If they're right in front of a guest and not on a separate table this might be the best thing to do to avoid situations like this.

What is the point of buying earlybird tickets if they do not guarentee you getting in before other people who just turn up on the day?

It allows you to spread your expenditure so that some of it is iun advance of the event, it means you have to cart a little less cash around with you, and it allows you to join a queue that should theoretically move faster because nobody in your queue has to fifddle around with money of get change etc.

How would your idea that people who have pre-paid get in first work? Suppose I only find out on Thursday that I can come to the show. Too late to buy an advance ticket, I decide to get there at 7am and start queueing. Does this mean I'm not allowed in before you, whatever time you turn up? Do I have to wait outside until all the pre-paid entry tickets have gone in? Because if that's the case, you only need one person with a pre-paid ticket not to turn up, and I'm stood around all day waiting to be let in. Or do I just have to wait until the couple of thousand prepaid folks who turned up at 8:50am, just before the doors opened, go in before I can buy a ticket and go in?

The food and drink there was outrageously priced. £4.50 for a pasty and £2.20 for a normal sized bottle of coke is an absoulute disgrace. We brought our own food and drink today and would do so in the future. It was an unpleasant surprise on the Saturday though.
From experience I would say that the food and drink prices at every major conference and exhibition venue (as well as every major sports venue and most major entertainmnet venues) range from rather exorbitant to outrageously expensive. I'm afraid it rather goes with territory; venues milking (semi-)captive audiences is all part of their (the venues') business models. Usually nothing an event organiser can do about it.

I think the event went okay. Was disappointed that there we no signs at the event to say that Alex Kingston had cancelled. I spent about 20 mins looking for her while 1 crew member said I don’t know where she is and another eventually confirmed that she had cancelled both days (another photoshoot cancelled!! That makes me 0 for 3 :D ). Not everyone can check the website on the morning of the event so a few signs would be nice.

The hall was too hot but this isn’t really SM’s fault and a lack of chairs is always going to happen, the floor was fine for me.

However I met some really nice guests across both days such as Sean Patrick Flanery, Armin Shimerman, Evanna Lynch and Georgia Moffett. Also got a really nice colour sketch of Spiderman for my nephew from Lee Townsend, he was a really friendly and chatty guy.

Well, i think if it had happened i wouldn't have paid because i don't see why i should but the lady i spoke to said that i would have to which is why i bring it up.

I was only annoyed for about 5 minutes when a big batch of photos appeared, including mine :D

As a personal preference I will always choose to buy on the day just in case the guest I want to see (and in some cases I have gone to a show for only one person) cancels and I feel there is so point in going. Why should I be penalised for doing this? I would still be buying THE SAME TICKET as pre paids it's just they have already committed and got their ticket. If the tickets were different then I'd agree with you but they are not, all they do is let you into the venue before 11am.

I really tried to enjoy my weekend but two things spoilt it for me:

Firstly on Saturday whilst using the Gents some guy (I have other names right now that I wont use here) barged past me which resulted in my iPhone ening up in the toilet! yes my phone no longer works and I am very very angry about it but the guy had dissapeared while I was trying to quickly dry it off hoping it would be ok!

Secondly on Sunday morning I was standing waiting for my brother not actually near any stalls when one of the stall holders poked me in the back quite hard and said "Move away from my stall, you are blocking my shop window" now as I am a large guy I took offence to that as there was plenty of room for others to walk around me, then when I asked him to leave me alone he said "I paid £500 for this stall for you to stand there blocking it", I then said I do not want to carry this on leave me alone! when my brother came back I told him what had happened but was rather rudely interrupted by the man's wife who when I asked her to leave us alone went on to make gestures by putting her arms wide out and bloating out her cheeks like "a fat" person!".

The second incident was reported to showmasters who were shocked and did speak to the stallholder involved who then proceeded to search the whole event looking for me just to deny that his wife had done this, he did in the end apologise and said he would speak to his wife but by then the damage had been done, I was shaking and so damn humiliated and angry.

I do have to thank the showmasters crew involved that I spoke to, they were very understanding but the general public need to be a bit more carefull and the stall holders need to remember WE are the poeple buying their goods! don't treat us like crap!

Apart from these I did meet everyone I wanted to meet and had the Photoshoots I wanted (David Tennant was great) I just miss my phone :D

P.S Thanks for your help Showmasters crew! :)

My daughter and i were only there on Saturday ....but had the best time.

Photos with Evanna, Arthur, Dame Diana, Joe, and John Hurt... Thanks Mal for the fantastic job you did...and it was nice having a chat with you in the Talk area.

My impressions of who i met were all positive.

John...superman. Have admired his work for decades so was quite nervous to meet him ( did not want to be disappointed )...he was so friendly, chatty and made you feel very special for having made the effort to come and meet him.

Joe....great and very laid back and cheerful. So pleased to have met him at last. My mum was cross that i did not get a signed pic for her...so bring him back again please.

William Melling....Give that lad more work... he was very chatty and smiley.

Evanna...lovely girl ( looks like my sister-in-law when she was young). I think she was the surprise hit of the show. I think SM may have under-estimated how many fans she had.

Dame Diana...i loved the fact that she had a hand shake and chat with everyone she meet. A pure legend. ( shame i did not get my exclusive card...which i would have got signed.

Would like to say hello to the Micheal Masden look a like i was chatting with in one of the auto lines. All SM crew should be like him.

There were just one or two crew who were grumpy...they always seem to be the same ones every year.

The stand out ones were...Can not recall any names but hopefully you will reccognise yourselves.. Girl in photo shoot area with Dame Diana...always lively and fun...young chap collecting photo A area tickets, calm and a smile for us attendees. Chatty chap with goatee collecting bags at photo area A.

Just a shout out as well to the lovely stall holders we met...Lady selling steam punk jewelery, Blue Destiny lady, Harry Potter Collector man, and the Hawaii stall ladies.

Only gripe was the heat.

We had the best time ever and look forward to the next time we attend.

Apart from these I did meet everyone I wanted to meet and had the Photoshoots I wanted (David Tennant was great) I just miss my phone :YAHOO:

P.S Thanks for your help Showmasters crew! :)

I feel so sorry for you....we do not need to be treated like that by unfeeling pond life.

Everyone is saying it was lovely and roomy, thats because there were not a lot of people! Our stall and all the stalls around us took a lot less than we were expecting over the whole weekend. I'm not complaining of course, I was just happy to be in the same hall as David Tennant :YAHOO: Him and Paul McGann were my highlights, both so lovely!

Wow, that's shockingly bad behaviour. I'd certainly like to know who that is becauase I definitely don't want to give my hard earned cash to people like that.

I'm absoultely certain that if an attendee wanted to see something on the stall where you were standing they would just politely ask if they could look where you were standing.
