General Suggestions for ET5?

So i had a great time this weekend, but i did think maybe some things could be altered to help things a little.

These are only suggestions, and i know ME likes suggestions.

So here goes:

NUMBERED SEATS:

I would like to suggest that everyone with a ticket gets a seat number allocated to them. This would stop the "people moving stuff" or "keeping seats for friends" thing that does happen. I nearly came to blows on the weekend with someone who wanted to keep a seat for their friend.

I think this would save a lot of hassle for a lot of people - yes i can understand people not liking not sitting next to their friends, but then maybe you would make new friends.

QUEUING SYSTEM:

The amount of people queuing for the afternoon talks on Sunday was just mad! There were two queues - one for photos one side and one of the afternoon talks the other. I felt very enclosed and people were also trying to walk up and down the corridor at the same time - maybe the above seating plan would help this?

Also, i know Gold were called as in "1-10, 11-20" and so on, maybe a poster on the wall telling the certain tickets numbers within the gold and silver groups where to queue would help?

I suppose it wouldn't be to hard for people to learn to put themselves in order, which in turn would speed up us going in?

Those are just my suggestions, does anyone else have any??

Better moderating of talk questions please. I think some of the talks ended up being a wasted opportunity for anything really fantastic because most of the floor questions were so self-referential. Perhaps recycle good questions from previous events, or Paul could come up with more - I just felt that his questions worked better, and it would be easier to direct the talks into something really insightful and fresh if there was more control over what got asked.

I would like to add to that about the Questions from the floor also.

Some of them were not well understood (either how they were asked, accents or language) - so maybe those who want to ask questions, can have their hand up and a member of the crew might be able to chat to them before they get asked also - a bit like "vetting"

Maybe some of the situations of things being misheard might be avoided in future?

I had a great weekend and the guests, crew and organisers did a fab job!

The one thing that really made me upset was at the themed party nights. I left the guests to it because i could see quite a lot of people were around them. Then finally when it was relatively quiet i eventually plucked up the courage to speak to a guest, to be pushed out the way and onto the floor by a group of fans.

I went gold this time due to last time being standard and the rooms were serpate for the types of ticket holders.

I think maybe bringing this back because, i didnt really have any chance to have a chat to any of the guests execpt for when i bidded for an encounter/wine reception. I just found this kinda ruined the fri/sat party for me and knocked my confidence quiet alot.

Also the wine reception was a fantastic idea and went well, would just like to suggest maybe sitting around a table each like guest encounters. Because i was stood in a rather large group and couldnt hear the guest and was kind of pushed out the circle so didnt have chance to ask any questions.

Apart from those 2 suggestions i really enjoyed the weekend and the guests were fantastic! I know we had some bad luck with loosing guests, but massive events really made it up brining gill birmingham and charlie :)

Would just like to add Boo Boo was a great guest and really easy to talk to and a gentleman for hes age ....

I completely understand what you mean about the guests being surrounded - personally i left them to it as there were too many around them most of the time.

I love the Drinks Reception, but would also like to have seating - i know there were over 10 around our table and half of them didn't speak. We had one or two quiet moments, but i think being seated would help with this. But thumbs up for the pom bears :D

We watched the guests from a distance at the parties because we were too shy to talk to them anyway, but they were crowded and no one was moving.

On Sunday there was a sort of queue with Booboo as his security guard allowed photos, but he seemed pretty happy with it, even though people were shoving to get to him first and stuff.

I agree about numbered seating too :)

The numbered seating was addressed after the last event:

Loading the hall:

The biggest problem with having the seats numbered is that if people are with friends that did not book together they WILL be apart all afternoon. And we will have the situation where someone is ticket G15 and they are on the end of an aisle and their friend who is G16 will be on the other side of the hall.

We have looked at and discussed every possible way of seating the hall and we decided this is the fairest way to do it and so people can sit next to friends if they want to.

Personally I think those same issues still stand, and I think there would be a lot more people unhappy if they had to sit by themselves.

I think you're the lady from the front row with whom I spoke on Sunday afternoon. As I said then, all you can really do is call for a member of crew. There are plenty of us in there when loading the hall, and as soon as we're aware, we will make our way over.

People are NOT allowed to reserve seats for friends, it is made very clear. I only noticed someone trying to move things once and spoke to those concerned.

Numbered seats, if anything, cause more hassle, in my personal experience. First of all, as David and others have said, it stops people sitting together full stop. Though, personally, I don't see that as a problem because people shouldn't be chattering during a talk anyway (in my mind, though others might see that differently!). I'm the same in a cinema - I don't feel the need to see things with friends!

But the other big issue with numbered seats is that people are free to come and go in the talks. If this is the case and there are numbered seats, can you imagine the nightmare of people having to ask you to constantly stand up so they can get to their seat? I think you would be really frustrated if you were constantly up and down in the middle of the talks!

They're interesting suggestions, though, and, as you've said, ME like suggestions, so it's a good thing. I don't know how you could do the queues with separate numbers because of space, but certainly something to consider.

Shrug, only my thoughts on the matter.

Its ok, thanks for posting previous references.

Guess i thought i would just share my suggestions.

Yes i agree with David - there was a little voting session during ET4 and one of the things asked about was the wristbands or dogtags and people agreed Dogtags were preferred.

Though a suggestion for those who thought it was clever to swap them, would be to add the owners photo to it. Not sure if it would help at all, but again another suggestion and something i have seen at other events.

I agree with numbered seating. There was a girl keeping a whole row! I went to sit down with a friend and she started shooing me (don't think she spoke english, either that or she was just rude) so I went and sat a few rows behind and she only used about 6 seats in the row. Totally unecessary.

I understand it would be difficult to organise but I'd just thought I'd share my opinion. Apart from that I had a great weekend. Thanks! :)

Rachel, please make sure you speak to a crew member in future if this happens. I think (though I could be wrong) that most of the native languages of attendees were covered amongst the crew, so we could communicate with them. People are NOT allowed to reserve seats for friends, but sadly the crew don't have eyes everywhere, so please, please, please find someone and let them know ASAP!

I agree the queuing system needs looking at. I am heavily pregnant and nearly fainted several times during he weekend. The worst was sunday afternoon when people were queuing for talks on one side and photos on the other, it was bedlam and seemed no one knew where they were supposed to be. could barely move, was very claustrophobic and I ended up missing my photo with charlie - there was no way I could of possibly waited in that queue any longer without putting myself and my baby at risk.

also i found my scheduale had barely anything on sat and nearly everything on sunday which was rather stressful aong with the heat in the hall where autos were done. A room with that many people in does not need heating - I realise this is down to the hilton but thought it could perhaps be mentioned. Again I felt very faint in there and did overhear a lot of people saying the same.

Can I just say that as annoying and unwelcome the wristbands were, they did their job perfectly yesterday. As Jason said on Friday, the reason behind them was in part to people who were passing their gold passes on to standard so they could sit in gold during the talks. Yesterday there was an empty row in Gold for the entire talk but just before the final part, a group of standard people sat there. A crew member was told who did a quick wristband check and when they didn't raise their Gold bands were swiftly moved back to standard. My only issue with the bands was that they were too long and I kept dangling it in my dinner and at least I didn't have to keep hiding it during photos like I did with the neck pass. There's good to be had from both I think and I know the neck pass makes a better keepsake so I was wondering if perhaps having both wasn't an option?

I have always left the guests alone at the parties. I liked it at ET2 when they were escorted round from table to table so everyone got a chance to talk to them. Gil barely got away from the door on Friday, and Bronson was surrounded by fans constantly. Booboo did talk to a lot of the younger fans which I thought was great and he did allow them to have a photo which was nice. But on the whole they seemed to stay in the same area!

Oh yeah. I think the photo collection needs some improvements, it was chaos!

Also I couldn't find my photo with Julia and when I went to look under the photos I got wrong for touching other photos. But when I went back my photo was stuck to the bottom of someone elses photo "/

thanks. To be honest I was so ill on sunday we got my pics and went straight home, but I was very lucky in the photo collection that some lovely crew members helped me find my photos and bought them to me so I did not get pushed about.

Would it not be possible to bring in a system where pictures are mailed out after the show? using a digital camera and calling/naming the pictures by ticket number could be a good way to organize this. just a thought :)

I do think the photo distribution needs looking at somehow.

The crowds were pretty ridiculous, and led to a lot of people pushing each other etc.

Plus the more people were leaning over, the more the photos at the front were getting bent and ruined by people who didn't care about anything other than getting their own.

It's tricky as I'm not sure what the best way of doing it would be, but it definitely had some problems. I know Malcolm was trying to get people to move back but it was definitely chaotic at some points, and it's not fair if peoples' photos are getting ruined.

My friend was a Silver ticket holder and found that she had more on Sunday than Saturday, so maybe next time all the Gold and Silver passes could get all their photos done on Saturday and leave all the signings to sunday or do some on the Friday if there are a lot of guests like this time.

I found, being Standard this time, that I felt a bit rushed in my photos, as they were all one after the other and I actually ended up missing my Julia shoot, twice, because I didn't want to miss my Bronoson shoot.

I also think there should be more distance between the photo shoot rooms and the talk rooms because like other people have said it got a bit crowded!

I think there should be a few more seats dotted around, as I suffer from a very bad knee so standing in the queues for a long time really did it in.

It was like a scrum!

It was quite easy to see the pictures without the major pushing and shoving of some people. Why the panic and near on hysteria to get to the photos? We waited til after the closing ceremony to get ours when it was much calmer :P

I know there were complaints about the dealers room being too big last time (we liked it!) but this time it was far too small - on the Saturday morning you couldn't move in there and again there was near on hysteria to get to the individual photos with people barging and 'crowd surfing' rather than patiently waiting for a space :P
