In "Day on Honor" every time I fought the wig would stick across my face like glue!!!! Also headpieces and costumes can be a problem, in "Blood Fever" Vorik split his pants wide open!!!!! stuntrek Posted June 25, 2010 Share Posted June 25, 2010 I kind of fell into it Actually I came out from Northern New York to be a stunt woman. I just kept looking and learning about the Industry. Believe, most of the time you hear that there are no jobs out here (L.A.) go home! I found a small stunt gym in Santa Monica and a group of young people wanting to become stunt people as well. I worked very hard at the gym and honed my craft there. Finally, there was a movie called "Two Minute Warning" (almost the same movie as "Black Sunday" and the Stunt Coordinator needed new faces every three days or so he was hiring everyone in town. He told me if I could get my Screen Actor Guild Card, he would hire me and I did!!!!!!! But that is another story. From then on I was able to go to set and look for SAG jobs. For me the one to be proud of was my 24 meter (78') high fall into water on the "Love Boat". They had been looking for a stunt woman to do this, but all had refused. If I refused as well then they would have put a wig on a stunt man to double an actress. I took the job and actually a stunt man jump with me at almost the same time as well doubling the actor. The episode was called "Oh Dale". The young Actor not my Actress came up to me afterwards and congratulated me on a stunt well done. That young Actor was John Ritter just at the point that the show "Three's Company" started to air on TV. Thinking of his kindness to me that day and the unfortunate early passing of John makes this whole story bittersweet for me and I miss him greatly. The job I enjoyed the most is even harder. Each set is different and therefore one can enjoy it for different reasons. Remington Steele, Fantasy Island, Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Star Trek: Voyager I work on several episodes so you become Family with the Cast & Crew, M*A*S*H because they invited newcomers in like they were Family (I was already seated at lunch and someone tapped my shoulder) It was Harry Morgan and he asked if he could sit next to "ME" and have lunch. It was wonderful. Wes Craven, I worked with on three movies, Nightmare on Elm Street, Deadly Friend and Scream 2. Always respectful to everyone. Every time that I have worked for Wes he will compliment me on how well I did the stunt. Amazing, here is a Horror Director whom is such a Gentleman and yet there have been other shows where the Directors were just miserable. We can talk more when I get there about the Industry. Hi Nicky, I love Wes Craven as a Director and his idea of "Nightmare on Elm Street" was original idea just like "Scream", "Friday the 13th" and "Halloween". Knowing what happen to him with New Line Cinema and how little money he has received from the "NOES" Franchise, it hurts me to see what happens to people in Hollywood. I really don't know how to answer the first two questions because I personally am afraid of sequels and prequels being as good as the original and remakes are not much better. I do not think I will be on Scream 4, but one never knows........... As for being the Queen of England I enjoyed every moment I was on the set. Leslie came up to me and said "Leslie that is a nice sounding name" the only thing I could think of that quick was "Yes, I think so Leslie" and Ricardo comes up to me when I walked on the set and said "Hello Leslie". He remembered me from "Fantasy Island" (another passing that makes me quite sad) The funny thing was, they wanted me to wave my left hand to the side of my face, to hide it and I told somebody that Royalty waves with the right hand. "Hey this is a movie wave with the left", so I did. It wasn't said in anger but it had to be done that way to film the stunt. There were probably close to twenty stunt men and women standing in front of the Terminal Window when the nose of the plane came through. All of us diving for cover. Though it looked like a crowd scene, there were no Extras in that particular instance do to the flying glass. In reality we were on a Sound Stage and the "nose of the plane" was on the back of a truck facing backwards. On action the driver put the truck into reverse and drove the nose through the tempered glass windows. Even candy glass or tempered glass can cut you, so one must be very careful working around "breakaways" Thank you, I love answering questions, they helped me share my career with all of you. But I guess thats you guys doing a really good job I have had bump and bruises, that is to be expected as any Professional Athlete will tell you. As you said in your last line "we do a really good job" which means, we must be able to get up and do the stunt over and over again until the Director gets what he wants or need for the project. Over the years, all stunt people start to slow down due to continuous trauma to their bodies. Some go on to be Stunt Coordinators, some just have to retire out of the Business. We are not Daredevils who do a job once and end up in a hospital for months, indeed we perform to bring enjoyment to you. With out you our audience, there would be no need for Actors or Stuntpeople.
