I thought last nights episode was brilliant. The whole starry night thing is blowing my mind.

Anybody got any theories????

yep was a good ep, not sure about all the stars thing, the us series ended where they all woke up and where astranoughts in hibernation with the dreams acting to stimulate them, they chose the dreams but sams got messed up hence the time travel aspect ect, i sorta liked it although it was poorly executed in the us version. there is no way the uk series will copy that but the star stuff reminds me of it.

 

this was a fantastic ep and this series is very good, still preferred life on mars though, keely annoyed me in series 1 and a little in 2, her character, but this series i like her much more, which is good.

 

really great acting and character issues. love it, I have no idea whats going on though with the stars and drakes time travel ect.

 

I am hoping for a return of simm as he faked his own death?

I like Ashes to Ashes more than Life on Mars by miles. But I do think the acting has got better each season. Thats why its such a shame it the last.

 

Its gonna have to be one hell of an ending to not be an anti climax.

totally agree cant wait for the last ep tomorrow, i love this show so sorry to see it end. Having a total 80's revival myself at the moment.

 

gotta love Gene Hunt he's lovely.

er, I dont know what to think, i enjoyed the ep, especially the bit at the end where ray and chris turn up and smash into the car

 

my initial reaction is WTF, I dont get it

so am I right in thinking they were all dead and it was the judgement period between heaven and hell, keats was the devil, the elevator leading them to hell and the railway arms is the gateway to heaven with was his name god?

 

jean is the guy who helps ppl cope with death as when they die they are confused ect?

 

if so my questions are this

 

what happened to sam? and did i blink and miss the guy in leather knocking on the door from all the trailers that was meant to be in this ep?

 

why cant gene or why didnt gene remember who he was? was it hes been doing it so long he forgot and if so what happened to sam?

 

sam jumping off the building and going back to the life on mars world, what was that? was that actually hell (the future where he jumps) and he like ray, chris and shaz decide to go back to the gov and heaven?

and if so how can alex remember him jumping?

Wow what a brilliant closing episode. I'm so impressed with the the whole of the last series. Is TV getting better or are am I just getting easier to please? Because I think that's some of the best TV I've ever seen.

 

I was originally really sad to hear it was the last series but there is a lot to be said for having enough time and money left to make a really good ending. So often really good programs are ruined by rushed endings.

 

I had kinda worked out that Keats was death in some form but the rest of it I did not see coming.

I liked the non-religious take on Heaven and hell and purgatory. Daniel Mays was so good at doing evil.

 

The red ellevators were a bit daft but I was still... quite....scared

I THINK I’ve got it (Ashes To Ashes, BBC1, last night). It was all a bit of a heaven, hell and purgatory metaphor.

 

Wasn’t it?

 

Gene Hunt was dead all the time (he was the ghostly copper with half his face shot off who kept appearing to Alex Drake).

 

Ray Carling was dead. Chris Skelton was dead. Shaz Granger was dead.

 

Alex Drake and her quest to get back to the real world and daughter Molly? Well, that was a bit of a waste of time because she was dead, too. She didn’t get out of her coma – her life ending at 9.06. Then again . . . oh, I don’t know.

 

Now? They’re all in pub heaven (good to see Nelson the landlord from Life On Mars days making a brief return at the end).

 

All, that is, apart from Gene, who returned to the cop shop – Purgatory Central – to confuse another hapless new arrival from another time and another place.

 

Jim Keats? No, he wasn’t from the Complaints, Discipline and Let’s Get Gene Hunt Department (or whatever it was called) – he was a very naughty boy. In fact, he was the devil – and he very nearly succeeded in tricking Alex, Ray, Chris and Shaz to take a very deep lift down to hell.

 

Is that right?

 

Forgive me if it’s not, but these things take time to work out when your brain has been turned to mush by countless hours watching reality TV – and unreality TV (Sky News).

 

Sadly, a hoped-for final scene appearance by John Simm as Sam Tyler didn’t materialise, although we did see Dixon of Dock Green at the very end.

 

Yes, very amusing.

 

Credit to Philip Glenister (Gene), Keeley Hawes (Alex), Dean Andrews (Ray) Marshall Lancaster (Chris) Montserrat Lombard (Shaz) and third series new boy Daniel Mays (Jim Keats), for their sterling work – but this final run did have its failings.

 

The biggest problem was down to the BBC – why didn’t they put it out earlier in the week rather than on Friday, when so many people are in the pub?

 

It also became a victim of its own success: the intrigue at the heart of everything was so strong that it took away from the week-to-week stories – we were waiting for the next clues and for all the mysteries to unravel.

 

But, when you set it against so much else on the idiot box, these are the tiniest of quibbles – Ashes To Ashes, like Life On Mars before it, was an unmissable delight

 

I also read on another site that the Dixon of Dock Green scene at the end of the credits was a reference to the fact that the character of Dixon of Dock Green was killed in a film but then bought back to life for a TV series.

 

I never really took to Ashes to Ashes like I did Life on Mars so I hadn't really seen a lot of the clues etc, but I wanted to see how it all ended. The only problem I had was the scene with Hunt and Drake in the house after she dug the skeleton up, I could hardly understand a word they were saying.

 

I did hope that John Simm would turn up at the end but I assume as he had already passed on to Heaven/the pub I guess that was never likely to happen.

 

Overall though I thought these last two episdoes were very good, so often these things end with a bit of an anti climax and everyone stood round a typewriter laughing but I thought this rounded things off nicely. Kind of left things open for the future but the door was closed just enough that they wouldn't really need to keep it going.

Throughout the latter half of the series, Gene had arranged to meet Sam for a drink at the pub. This was his way of saying that Sam had passed on as did Ray, Chris etc.

 

And Nelson the bartender was the person who welcomed the dead to heaven.
