can guests know about party

I think Chrono means that sometimes (especially if the guest is there just for the day) they may not know about the party that night (as they need to leave)

But if you mention it to them, sometimes they go 'awww that sounds cool, wish I could go' or actually want to go but had other things planned as they didnt know it was on.

Sometimes having a guest at a party is cool (Ben on stage busting some serious moves) and sometimes it isnt (Gareth getting on the sheep, therefore causing a rage zombie-esque charge towards them, leaving the DJ not knowing whats going on lol)

As long as the fans can contain themselves around the guests in such an open and personal situation, its cool.

Wouldnt miss Ben's moves for the world lol

Follow the free flowing beer!! It snared Gareth and Kai easily enough! Matt too =D *funny memories of ladies pants*

Don't blame Gareth for wanting to party, he's been to every party at all Hubs. Its the attendees who should be ashamed of themselves, plus it could very well be one of the reasons Gareth didn't do the other parties. Poor thing he couldn't even enjoy himself and do some work at the same time.

Whish is why the sentence under that was:

'As long as the fans can contain themselves around the guests in such an open and personal situation, its cool.'

Wasnt blaming anyone except the fans lol

No cause my edit was for spelling on that first big post lol

Anyway, I do hope a few more guests can make at least one of the parties this time. Smaller place this time round so bit eiser for them to mingle I feel.

Plus I dont think there will be as many fans this time base don the ticket sales. Could be proved wrong though, depends who they announce I spose.

Ah, guests at the party, reminds me of the good old days back when Hub 2 was happening *happy sighs* Matt Rippy wearing ladies undies, Kai walking in a nice zig-zaggy straight line and then looking for a kebab and Gareth, singing/dancing and having a down right good time. Oh to just go back to that Hub or Hub 1 would be brilliant =)

Actually I thought the Hub 2 parties when it came to attendee/guest interaction were pretty much the height of embarassment for all concerned. People crowding around Gareth in the Friday night when he was playing poker, trailing after he and Gemma wherever they went, crowding Matt Rippy, Phil Ford and Kai in the small bar to the extent that people were actually getting physical trying to stop other attendees getting to the guests. Just awful beyond belief.

It only works if the attendees chill out a bit and give the guests room to breathe. It wasn't a surprise to me at all that the guests mostly kept themselves to themselves at Hub 3 and avoided the parties - I would have too.

Also to the OP do bear in mind that "Oh I would have stayed if I'd known" does tend to be the polite stock response guests give to attendees when they are asked why they weren't at the parties. Doesn't mean that they actually didn't know.

I was really surprised to find that guests did actually attend the parties - I think it's a bonus if they do go and mingle, and like the previous poster says the response sometimes given is maybe a polite response as opposed to an absolute truth. Parties aren't some peoples' cup of tea in everyday life, and if you've got 500 fans crowding round it would just make it all the more awkward, so it's quite understandable not all of them want to go.

As for Gareth on the sheep - I don't think people can really be blamed too much for running over to watch - I'm sure he knew from experience what would happen when he got on the thing. If he din't want to draw attention to himself then clambering on top of a bucking sheep was maybe not the best way to do it. If people were following and crowing him after that then that's when it gets a bit much.

Yeah at neither the hub 2 or 3 did I even go and watch guests doing things like the sheep lol I'm having fun with my friends.

If I happen to be at the bar when one of the guests comes up to it, I might say hi and ask how their evening is if they arnt talking to anyone, but thats it.

They have been talking to us all day and being the centre of attention, they need some down time from us baying hordes lol

Best 'after hours' experience with a guest was at glasgow. Me and Turkfox were sat having a drink in the ibis bar (staff and guest hotel) minding our own business when Kai came and said hello on his own accord. Chatted for a bit (he knows Turkfox well and even recognized me) then he went to grab himself some food.

Nice, relaxed and on the guests terms. Thats how it should be. Not 5, 10 or even more people crowding around them as if its an extension of the gold pass reception. Theres that available if you want that sort of meeting with them.

I'm with you on most of this. I was one of the ones talking to Phil Ford in the bar for a time near the end of things, which is partly because Kai had introduced me to him earlier, and partly because I really wanted to hear what he was saying. While I was annoyed that I sort of had to politely elbow my way into the group to participate at all, I did come to understand that it was really hard to hear him amidst the din, even in such cramped quarters. I stayed away from Matt because that situation made me very uncomfortable, and only talked to Kai briefly, though he was very generous with his information about the (non-personal) topic we were discussing.

In Gareth's case, I stood near the poker table for a while to try to figure out whether or not I wanted to play. (I love poker.) However, I did get a bit intimidated by the crowd, even though I totally understood both the good and the bad reasons why it was forming. My worst moment came later on when I turned quickly at the bar, trying not to damage anyone in that small space, and elbowed Gemma pretty hard. I was horrified, as I hadn't known anyone was there. She was lovely, and we walked out of the bar together and went our separate ways. I'm still never going to forgive myself for my clumsiness, though.

I like the intimacy of the Park Inn, and really love the idea that some of the guests will give the parties a try, but I do think that we need to remind ourselves and each other that we need to pay attention to their signals and try to be mindful of their comfort levels and of letting new people into the conversation. Otherwise, all the guests will start staying away.

I was rather vocal (both online and on the night) about what I thought of the people who didn't leave Matt alone all night. It took us until 3am to coax that group towards us, just to say something quickly to Matt, then one girl came and grabbed him by the arm, glared at us and marched him away. We had the same sort of trouble at midnight with Kai when it became my friend's birthday and we wanted to tell Kai because of a running joke between the two of them - we got about twenty seconds with him before Matt's group pulled him away again.

I think they knew I wasn't impressed from my pretend-Tourettes. Well, they were certainly glaring at me the next morning! But it was them who'd behaved badly, I felt rather pleased with myself. ;)

Anyway, yes - I do see the good and bad points of having guests at the party. For example, Ben's dancing was funny! But there are always those who just don't know how to behave themselves and the guests end up looking slightly scared and bewildered. I think some fans need to take a leaf out of the Muggle Mayhem attendees' book - no one behaved like that, and the guests stuck around for the whole party and danced with us, and because we weren't being "crazy fans" a lot of us got to keep in touch with them on facebook and such.

Tom's gig at Hub 2, there was always Friday/Sunday night to party with us, even if he left say 9/10pm.

Hub 2, poker table was a given to be crowded, I got a picture of it and was stood there for all of 5 minutes so sue me for being a stalker, I assume it was set where it was set and how to encourage us all to participate in the other casino stuff that was set up around that area.

Matt, Kai and Gareth or Phil even didn't seem perturbed by the crowd well not to the extent that Gareth stayed in the other bar at Hub 3 along with other horror stories I heard *shakes fist* this stopped me crowding/stalking Clarky!!! :P Especially as I didn't want to go over to Gareth and Gemma for the plain old reason I'm insane and don't do erratic crowding re: sheep.

My friend got a 5 minute convo with Matt at Hub2 and found complaints she hogged him for half an hour or more! Seriously she asked her question during a lull in fangirls and went as soon as it was answered, I know cos I watched the whole thing!

One final thing, BeatrixKiddo88, Glasgow is totally different to the Hub, mainly because at Glasgow there were fans of other TV/Films there but at the Hub all the fans are fans of the same show which everyone knows who all the guests are.

He might have arrived late Friday night and wanted rest before everything that weekend and then was exhausted Sunday and just wanted to get home?

Exactly! And besides, why should any of the guests want to stay past their appointed and paid duties? How many of us like to stay at work, helping with things that are related to our work, for no extra pay and with no pressure to do so in order to keep/get a job, after our official duties are finished?

Owl this wasnt at the event, as my post made clear, it was at the hotel. And even though Turkfox and I had met Kai several times before and as I said, he recognised us, we still let him start the convo. If he hadnt of said anything to us, we wouldnt of started anything at all.

We know when the guests need their down time, as Blackbird and others have said on here.

I like talking to the guests and migling, but when they dont mind, as in when they are expected to or when they start a conversation themsleves.

I can confirm many people's anecdotes on here, there where a few guests at the hub that were never more then a few feet away from certain groups of fans.

I like these people as much as anyone, in fact on many occasion I have got rather fanboy-ish because of them (JB at CM London rings a bell) but I do that where I know the guest cant see or hear me, then when I am near them for an autograph or in a bar they are just another person.

Coming to events since 2002 and meeting people has tempered my nerves and excitment somewhat.

I totally agree on this one - I remember at hub2 everytime I passed the bar area the same people were crowded round the guests. The other thing I've noticed especially with Gareth. & Kai and to a lesser event Tom, because some people have met them several times at other events / gigs they hang around them. I've heard lots of comments when I've walked past on this matter.

I don't blame any of the guests if they don't want to party, and having seen some of the attendees antics I think they are better off staying well out of them.

In that case why all this complain about guests not knowing/coming to the parties? Even though Gareth/Kai didn't have a gig/shooting hub1/2 why should/would they want to party with attendees. Its not a part of their job description.

TBH, I wasn't paying attention to the groupies, seeing them crowd the 'star' I knew they weren't the kind of people I'd want to know (and boy do I know a fair few people!) so I can't really say if i kept seeing the same people.

I think that people are/were enquiring about the guests not knowing about or coming to the parties because they might not have known that (last I knew) it's not part of their contractual obligation to do so. Also, Persephone1 made this correct point earlier on:

... do bear in mind that "Oh I would have stayed if I'd known" does tend to be the polite stock response guests give to attendees when they are asked why they weren't at the parties. Doesn't mean that they actually didn't know.
