Moderators DavidB Posted September 25, 2009 Moderators Share Posted September 25, 2009 Always good to hear You do sadly get a few who only do it to get closer to the guests .. they get filtered out pretty quick though, once they realise a lot of jobs actually require us to see less of the event than the attendees do! It's a fantastic experience though for the right person, working with the SM crew and making some great friends there, and meeting some great attendees too. Everyone is really welcoming. I had a reaaly great time and everyone was really friendly and helpful. It is a bit daunting being the newbie. By the end I felt like one of the team Can't wait to do London. It's why a lot of us started and keep doing it. That and we're a bit mad Crewing can be very much like marmite. You either love it or you hate it. About half of the new people that crew come and do it the first time and never do it again. Some of them it will be because they just don't enjoy it, and that's cool, it's not for everyone. As David says, sometimes it's because they came in with the wrong attitude in the first place. They are either doing it to get closer to the guests or think it'll be easy. They soon find out you don't get nearer the guests (at least not at your first show) and it's far from easy. But thankfully for every one we get that walks away we usually get at least as many newbies that get hooked on it and come back time and time again. They click with the rest of the crew and that's it. Once you're part of our odd dis-functional family, there is no getting away. To be honest, I'm not star struck anyway, so thats not why I would do it. As you say, just being part of it and all that. Love doing it, as Too Tall said: "its a great feeling knowing your part of something to do with someone else having an amazing day!" Balanced views as it were. It's an amazing experience IMO. *g* Yeah, balanced views is good! we are used to doing wedding fayres with thousands of people and on your feet handing out flyers and fielding queries all day with your polite smile plastered onto your face I hope to be one of the ones that absolutely loves the whole experience and wants to be there all the time I found myself wanting to help out at the Twi proms, prefer to be busy anyway It is really nice having so many friendly people on here making me feel welcome, and haven't even done anything yet!
