Reverend Scapegoat
Just a quick one - Would it make any difference to you all if there was no "official" aftershow party for Collectormania next year? ie. if I put on an event, but it was advertised as "An unofficial aftershow", would you still be as likely to come, and do you think other Collectormania-goers would be as likely to go? To a sensible person, no, it shouldn't matter, but I've had this problem before on here with trying to organise nights out or whatever and people don't seem up for a non-official night out. Boltrig
If getting official status is going to be an issue then theres not a lot of choice, but id think that an official afterparty is definetly the way to go. It might put potential partygo-ers off if the party is just a party in a random bar in town. If its got a connection to the event it might reassure folk. Moderators DavidB Posted September 4, 2009 Moderators Share Posted September 4, 2009 Judging from other previous attempts at people organising unofficially meetups etc, a lot of people are quite wary of attending such things, and are certainly more comfortable doing 'official' ones. So I do think if you're going to be organising something, 'official' status would certainly help.
comawhite
Seeing as I was too shagged out to attend... how many at the party were non-forumers?
Padsbrat
I think a party labelled official with prizes up for grabs and advertised with CM would be the best policy. Food, drink, music and prizes will ensure plenty costumes.
comawhite
I may be able to help with a prize if thats the route gone down. Might not be one anyone would like, but still...
Padsbrat
I could also possibly contribute to a sci fi prize :)
Boltrig
Well its worth a mention to the organisers; not only does the DJ need to get paid this time, a wee bit extra for prizes to be purchassed during the day wouldnt go amiss.
Reverend Scapegoat
Guys... I am NOT looking for anything from Showmasters other than their visible blessing, and space on their advertising. The actual arrangement of the party is down to ME. I'll buy/blag/donate the prizes for the competitions, I'll sort what needs to be sorted. So if I manage to sell enough tickets... I get paid. If I don't, I make a loss. I'm willing to take that risk to ensure that there IS a party - So long as Showmasters make sure to tell people that the party is happening, and give it their blessing. Claymore
What if a few folks group up and put some cash in each towards the running of the party? They could get a cut of the profits based on how much they put into the fund or the like. Would give those peeps an incentive to make the party a success and take some of the financial pressure off Scapey. I'd be up for chipping in some cash. Ravenshayde
It would all depend on the figure of what the "chipping" in would be. Not that I'm being tight with money, it's just I can barely afford to live these days as it is . As also previously said any help needed with organising give me a shout
Boltrig
Well you dont want massive massive number kicking in a quid or 2 each or it gets too hard to keep tabs on. All depends on the amount that would need to be generated. Id say split it over anywhere between 5-10 people.
Scruffy
I think if you look at all other organised Collectormanias you wont find an official party amongst them, and the main one at CM Mk stopped a while ago . Taking that into account , it may be harder to assume CM Glasgow will have one next year. I think a semi official one with you taking over is probably your best bet if you can get enough interested , so good on you for trying.
Reverend Scapegoat
http://showmastersonline.com/forums/index....showtopic=42845 http://showmastersonline.com/forums/index....showtopic=52462 http://showmastersonline.com/forums/index....showtopic=49848 http://showmastersonline.com/forums/index....showtopic=50732 etc. Like has been made clear - Showmasters are not organising the party... I am doing all the work. Semi-official / official - It's all semantics. So long as Showmasters commit to endorsing the party and mentioning it on their advertising material for the show itself, as well as advertising it within the show on the Saturday, then we're cool. If, on the other hand, Showmasters distance themselves from the party - "One of the punters is having his own wee aftershow, but there's no actual aftershow" type thing... Problem. As for the "Committee" idea - that could work... Cheers for the offer! Need to see how the venue hunt goes but I'm doing it because I genuinely and strongly believe that the party is one of the things that makes Collectormania more than just "A glorified dealers' room" - A phrase I got sick of hearing after the December show! I pushed to get a party for the 09 event, but I was unfortunately correct when I said that £10 tickets would put people off. And the situation with the extended license not being applied for, but the 11pm closing time not making it to me or the customers until 45 minutes before was the straw that broke the camel's back. The blame for that seems to lie with Braehead Arena - Since if Jason knew that the party was closing at 11 instead of 1, there's no way he wouldn't have told us... But as the license needs to be sorted months in advance, the Arena themselves must have known months in advance that they'd be closing us down at 11. So anyway, what we need for next year is simply: Endorsement from, and information being made available to the punters by, Showmasters. Simples. Kenny
If you build it, they will come. I'm still of the opinion that the main reason not so many people came to the party is because it was so hard to find. Christ, I came to the previous one, knew where I was going this time, and still got my friends bloody lost on the way! http://mypict.me/show.php?id=tveE Either more signage around the main event saying that the party is on and where it is, or have it in a more easily accessible location like a pub in Xscape would go a long way. A mention at the end of each talk, that sort of thing. That obviously requires the SM blessing - I suspect that without that, all we'll get is a handful of forumers and a hefty loss. Reverend Scapegoat
That's exactly my point, Kenny. Folk can't go to what they don't know about, no matter how cheap it is! I can sort the pricing problem - But I can't give the party the advertising it needs without Showmasters' blessing. Even the website for this year, when you click on "Party" just said "There will be a party on Saturday night, 7:30 til late". No mention of where it was, nothing! TurkFox
I knew about the party, I just wasn't travelling all the way to the crew hotel in the city centre, all the way back out to the party and all the way back to the hotel again.

Boltrig
Hopefully, Im going to be getting myself vehicled up over the winter. If anyones stuck for transport, I dont mind staying teetotal and helping out with transport. Less booze would probably make for clearer photos too! Theres a 30 quid soiling fee though!
