Doctor Who
Manchester will not be happening in 2009. We have no further updates im afriad. Thanks for taking your time to reply and good look in finding a new venue. I'd be so pleased if Collectormania Manchester came back, it would just be so amazing and it really would make a lot of us fans up North very happy. Doctor Who
maybe u wanna update the website then, save people waiting to find out ! They're very busy at the moment with organising other conventions so it will be quite hard to find the time to update the site but nearer the next Collectormania Manchester date, it will probably be updated with more information. Doctor Who
Why dont u come to other events in the uk? As much as I really would love to, I actually can't. My parents won't allow to me go anywhere further than Manchester for somewhere like a convention and at the age of sixteen, I still have school. Well, technically, I have finished that now and have 2 more GCSE exams left as well as the prom but it will be college or sixth form next year. That's the reason I can't attend any of the other events and that's why I really, really, hope that there are more Manchester events in the not so distant future. When I grow up, and perhaps if and when I go to university, it will hopefully be a different situation though. Haha, by the way, I'm very jealous of all those guests you have met from Doctor Who and Torchwood. You must have had a great time at those conventions and I hope you continue to do so. I'd probably say that the biggest guest I have met was Billie Piper, she was so kind, and that was at a book signing in the Trafford Centre. Everyone I have met has been so nice and at the last Collectormania Manchester, the crew who worked with Showmasters and the dealers were very helpful. i_am_your_angel_of_music
Why dont u come to other events in the uk? its not always that easy for everyone, i myself struggle to afford the other events as there so far away, manchester is/was ideal cause it was only 45 mins away.... costs about £50 just for a train to MK and more down to london or up to glasgow...so its not always that easy to jst go to another uk event. Sazzzy
Why dont u come to other events in the uk? Not everyone can afford to go to all the other events, or any of them actually, I know alot of my friend only go to the manchester one, its its doable money wise..with the economy being so S**T atm, and them out of work.. its conveniant. Doctor Who
I mean, I think that there's definitely an audience for Manchester and that's why we are all still here, having patiently waited for a year and a few months. We all understand that SM are doing there best to try and get another one to work and it's understandable that we will have to wait a long time as the past ones didn't work out and new things have to be arranged. Hopefully, it'll be sooner rather than later, but I'd like to wish them all the best in finding a new venue and thank them for not completely giving up on the event. Other organisers may have just cancelled the event altogether. Edited June 12, 2009 by Doctor Who

Beth
Ah fair dues dude, tbh id like to see a manchester event but if it doesnt work out money wise for SM then i guess its hard. I went to the first gmex enjoyed that immensly :) I agree that the events in Manchester should still happen.Manchester is the nearest place for me to travel too out of all the places where the conventions take place in the U.K.I can't always afford to go at Milton Keynes,London e.t.c either. If Manchester doesn't work out, would it be possible to arrange the events in another place up north ?.Bolton has some good places to book big events, and I think Liverpool would be a good idea !.Just to suggest a couple. Doctor Who
I'm still hoping for it to take place in Manchester myself as I'm not sure I could make it if it took place in Liverpool. I could possibly make Bolton but my parents probably wouldn't allow me to travel to Liverpool as it is quite far away from where I live in Manchester. They are good suggestions though and who knows, Showmasters might decide to choose somewhere else in the north west but considering that previous events have tooken place in Manchester, I would probably say it's safer to stay in Manchester where fans of the previous conventions know it is. Manchester is also a slightly larger area, as a whole, than Liverpool and if I'm correct, therefore has a larger population. I've got my fingers crossed that a Manchester event will take place soon and it will be popular with no one upset about not being able to attend. Science Fiction is becoming increasingly more popular now, it's definitely more popular than it was two years ago when the last convention took place, so hopefully more people will attend the next time that there is a Collectormania in the city of Manchester. WILLOW99
I think aswell if we advertise an event differently we might get more people attending. It's pretty amazing how many sci-fi/genre fans i've met recently who didn't know about Collectormania as they don't go in the specialised shops or even buy the magazines they always seem to be in. Maybe some tv ads would reach out to a wider audience or more updates in local papers such as Metro (I think it appeared in the paper for the last one during the week before the event and some people i know couldn't make it). Janson
I really hope the Manchester event happens again as I've loved the three I've attended. I think part of the problem is that those of us who live up north know that if we want to attend events like Collectormania the chances are we're going to have to travel down to London or surrounding areas and will do so. I don't think it's the same for fans who live nearer to London. Personally if I had the opportunity to attend LFACC, Collectormania MK and various events not affiliated with Showmasters down south I wouldn't bother travelling to Manchester to see guests who would probably be appearing at an event down south sooner or later. Even though Manchester's only an hour down the railway tracks for me I didn't attend the last one as there were only 4 guests I wanted to see and have since met 2 of them at Milton Keynes. Doctor Who
Yeah, hopefully it'll be back next year and I have to disagree, I don't think Collectormania is going down hill. It's just in this economic climate, choices are hard to make and it's best to leave a show that didn't make much profit until after the credit crunch has been resolved and money is back to normal which will hopefully be soon. Mungojerrie
I think that the anime convention we have in May and October shold buy out Collectormania as the anime convention is alot better, they brought out a Sci Fi convention that was going the same as collectormania and made it alot better^_^ Collectormania been going downhill since it first started, I think convention would make it so much better. hahahahahahahahahahahaha *breathe* ahahahahahahahahahahahaha oh you weren't joking? ^This. Collectormania has a wonderful atmosphere and in my opinion, I feel it's superior to the 'anime convention'. Guests = more awesome. One Collectormania Gmex show can easily outdo what the other place gets for one of their events. There's no contest there. No free huggers = awesome. They're an awful addition to any event so I happily attend Collectormania as I've never seen one there! Sure, there's less cosplayers (from what I've seen, that's a high priority for you) but that means it's a lot easier to make friends with them seeing as it's a less concentrated group. Tbh I'd happily wait another year for this show to come back rather than letting said anime convention buy the event off Showmasters!

Doctor Who
are they busy with the london con or another event. I've really enjoied the cons in bedford and milton keynes. They'll currently be busy organising; Bad Wolf, the London and Film Comic Con, Abrams Inc, Who Wars, Collectormania Glasgow, Autographica and all of the currently announced events on the homepage of this forum. Hopefully, they are also trying to organise this event and think up plans of how it can run next year too. Scenehitter
Perhaps the powers that be at G-MEX, sorry Manchester Central, only want politicians booking the hall for their conferences. Seems to have gone downhill since they changed the name of the venue anyway. Bolton has an arena and exhibition centre as part of the Middlebrook/Reebok Stadium complex with railway station and cheaper hotels. not that I am biased but it is on my doorstep...
