Tanith
Ye Paul (Carson) auditioned for the role of Scotty and would have been Scotty if Simon Pegg ever had to drop out for any reason. But since Simon did not drop out and that they loved Paul so much they decided to give him a part in the film. adriangill
I knew he was in it but when I went to see the film I got so engrossed I forgot to look out for him!

surfy_sah
still surprises me when people say they didn't see McGillion - true it's a slightly blink&miss cameo, but I (and I'm glad Blacknights agrees!!) HEARD him before I saw him at the last UK con Paul did, he was wearing his Star Trek T (think the ones that are only given to the cast and crew) but he couldn't talk about his roll (other than it wasn't Scotty) as it was way back in January! personally, as a non-fan of Simon Pegg and a fan of McG, well gutted he didn't get the part! but, having seen the movie, not sure Paul could've pulled off being funny the way Simon Pegg did eg "I like this ship! it's exciting!" surfy sah xx
