Some Questions for Guest Talks...

I had to ASK in the ticket thread how many were left because there is over 65 pages of chat to wade through before you can actually find out! ;)

A lot of people ask though. The topic isn't called 'ticket update thread' or else I'd absolutely understand you or anyone else expecting to go in there and read the update immediately.

Jola has always randomly placed 'ticket updates' wherever she saw fit in whatever topics .. there's never been a specific one, so having to ask isn't entirely unreasonable really .. plus we're usually happy to answer if someone does ask!

I don't think it hurts, and I didn't think anyone was being harmed by 'general chit chat' - I always maintained the stance that it was better to have it all in one topic than all over the place. Plus people were always excited about it getting closer to a sell out etc, so it was just a nice atmosphere to have. But I guess you can't please everyone, and I respect your opinion like everyone elses :D

Though I must add seeing some people discussing how they'd mod this place elsewhere doesn't really make me feel too great! In the end, I do the best I can - I try to get a balance between being informative (with ticket updates, answering questions etc) and encouraging people to join in and actually enjoy this place. I'm always willing to help, and have done on numerous occasions when asked to, so it's a bit hurtful when others want to step in.

David, it isn't meant as an insult... I am sure you have your own ideas of how you'd mod other forums as well.

Having been a mod elsewhere, I am bound to have an opinion on how I would do things.

The general section is obviously there for a reason... so the chat & sillyness doesn't get out of hand in the other sections...

What is the point of having a general section for chat & games if people don't use it for that purpose?

But remember, our chit chat is result of being excited about ticket sales and the convention, and most of the time we are talking about teh convention, it's not always general chat, and I think we have a right to talk about stuff in there, atleast its not happening all over the place!

All I can say is that I've had so many arguments - personal or otherwise - on this forum, and so much crap off troublemakers over the years .. so if the worst issue going on lately is people having off-topic fun, you'll have to excuse me not taking it too seriously.

I've had people threaten to push me down stairs, call me ugly, all sorts .. so let's just say I'm thankful the issues here are slightly more friendly at least :D

Let's try and behave :D

We don't want anyone feeling like they're having the p!ss taken out of them or anything. In the end you're all here for the same reason, so let's try to keep that in mind and not turn on each other please :WINCE:

This is my favourite section to mod cuz you're all nice and friendly, so I hope it stays that way :D

Yes, yes I do

But seriously, no one should be made to feel like they can't post here. And I know none of you have meant to do that! Sometimes we just take things in the wrong way or whatever, which is unfortunate.

I'd hate to see people divided and arguing etc, which seems to be starting and it's hugely unnecessary.

I can see both sides of this...erm discussion, because on the one hand, I wanted to see what questions people were thinking of and had to wade through pages of random chit chat, and on the other hand, it's nice to see everyone so releaxed and having fun. Moderating is no easy task because you always end up cheesing someone off, I do it everyday practically on the site I moderate.

Anyway...what was my point? Oh, yeah...I think you're doing a great job David, now if you could just direct me to the posts about the guest questions :YAHOO:

To add to the previous conversation I think the board mods are doing an amazing job!

But back to the actual topic I understand you've had some stupid questions in the past which is why you sort through them first but I submitted a question to Peter which was asked wrong and so I still dont know the answer because what he said I already knew!

The whole sitting and watching the guests talk with an MC thing made me feel like I was back at school again not that I was participating in a talk. I think thats why people shout out, because they just want the guests to know they have fans.

I know were not meant to discuss other conventions and Im really sorry but Ive seen guest talks work in america when people que for a microphone and there is less shouting and it works.

To get people more involved couldnt you follow through with the question at the bottom of the form the little "Would you like to ask this question yourself?" bit. That way you could sort the pointless questions out from the good ones and then the actual person could ask it and feel more involved.

Sorry I just felt like we werent very involved and although I was so so happy that Peter answered my question Im a little annoyed it was read out wrong.

Did any of that make sence? I hope I didnt offend anyone.

xoxo

It does make sense, and they've definitely taken that sort of view into consideration before making this decision.

Obviously there's a fine balance between wanting to give people interactivity with the guest, and making sure informative question/answers occur. It's difficult, and I think they've just decided that this method works best for them.

I do remember early on in the cons they did do the whole 'did you want to ask this?' deal, but I suppose over time they've found it more efficient not to.

having read all the points that have been made, i think its great that everyone wants to have a laugh and i am excited as well but i do think if you want to chat about things that are only between a few of you and not for all twilighters you should maybe do it on facebook or somewhere like that. david i think you do a great job and helped a lot for et1 as it was my first con so i dont think anyone is having a go at you and if starbuck was not happy with the forum she would not post as often as she has.

Of course we are.

You know, when Betty and I posted about ET on another board, one of the comments (from a woman actually)was "800 women, why do I find that really scary?". I think there is this really stupid idea that when women get together en masse their first instinct is to be bitchy to each other. I didn't see any of that at ET - people seemed to go out of their way to be friendly to each other, and while there is the odd disagreement here at the forum (mostly misunderstandings, to be fair) it's far friendlier than a lot of boards.

I can see both sides of the random chit chat argument, to be honest. On one side, it's fab that a bunch of fans have some in-jokes or whatever that bring them closer together. On the other side, little cliques on boards can seem unwelcoming or just irrelevant to those on the outside. I think as long as they're in threads specificlaly devoted to them, nobody can really have too much of a problem with the chit chat posts at all. It's just when threads get hi-jacked that people tend to get upset. That said, I post daily on a board where there is no such thing as "off-topic" and some of the tangents we go on are really entertaining.

I think this could probably go on forever with differing opinions etc if I leave this open, so I'm going to lock it. Mainly because I think we all know where we stand now, and hopefully no more unnecessary upset will occur with anyone.

I can always be contacted directly if anyone wishes to discuss anything. That's not a problem :P
