PHOTOS - Official photographer?

I see your reasoning, but it's still incorrect in today's orthography. For one thing, the word 'photo' is now recognised as a word, rather than just an abbreviation. Here's one link of many (and the most useful one I could find in a quick look) on the plural of 'photo' (it's under 'Irregular Plural Nouns - List Three'):

Also, here's another link on forming plurals of abbreviations:

Oh thank GOD someone else pointed it out. I've been biting my tongue for MONTHS every time I see "photo's" on here ;) It drives me insane that superfluous "Greengrocer apostrophe"!! Proper pet hate of mine!

Yes, technically it can be "photo's" but, as said above, "photo" is a word in itself now, so 99% of the time when you see someone writing "photo's", they aren't sticking the apostrophe in to shorten the word... they think they are being clever by sticking an apostrophe in by a "s".

So many of my friends do it on Facebook and it drives me insane, but I don't wana seem rude and controlling by telling them off :WINCE:

You generally stick an apostrophe in when you are saying something belongs to a person OR when you are sticking 2 words together and removing some letters.

For instance: "Lizzy's post"... the use of an apostrophe means that the post belongs to Lizzy.

"It's not big or clever"... the use of an apostrophe here means that this should have been "it is" but has been shortened. Same for "you're" "there's" "haven't" etc.

Generally, if something doesn't seem to go in that rule, don't use an apostrophe! It is less annoying imo to have one missing than to have a stray one that shouldn't go there- makes for hard reading

The only slightly confusing one is it's/its, when you write "It's a beautiful day today." you need the apostrophe, because "It's" is a contraction of "It is." However, if you are writing, say: "The settee comes with its own matching footstool." using the possessive pronoun, then no apostrophe is needed.

It's one of my pet hates too.

You're quite right. Possessive pronouns are a bit strange. The only one that takes an apostrophe is "one's". All the rest (its, yours, hers, ours, theirs, etc.) do not. I think the reason for the noted exception is to avoid confusion with the plural form, "ones", which is not a consideration with the other possessive pronouns.

Sorry for letting the language geek out to play. I'm not doing very well at shutting it up, I'm afraid. ;)

Is anyone actually posting pics on here ?

If I recall correctly, this thread was created to ask about whether or not the photos being taken by the pro photographer(s) at the panels and around the event were going to be made available, and some people have posted pics/links here. However, there's another thread (entitled 'Photos', as opposed to the all-caps title here) designed specifically for the posting of pics. :)
