Annoying hotel policy change

Well I think anyone who cancelled due to the line up must be kicking themselves now .

The posts on here prove it to be the BEST event ever .

I don't think the posts prove that.... it seems like everyone (myself included) had a fantastic time, but I preferred Eclipse 1 (and the last LFaCC for that matter), so for me personally, it's the third best SM/ME event this year.

A LOT of people are calling this the best event ever.

Yeah, there are SOME people saying that. And it's great that they enjoyed themselves that much (as did I), but a truly great event has a combination of things, one of which is the buzz you get from the anticipation of meeting your favourite stars.

Yes, and many of us had that buzz.

You know what, I'm not going to get drawn into this again. You had a great time and met the actors/actresses that play your favourite characters, well that's super. :D

Have to say, I agree with the new policy,

HOWEVER, a suggestion around it could perhaps be that The Park Inn allow people to reserve for free if they prove they are attending the con, ie. by giving a booking reference number from Massive Events, or something like that...?

and i love the park inn breakfast, but i prefer the ibis for the rooms.

I agree with this 100%...

BUT, has anyone seen the renovated rooms (from the 5th floor, where the guests stayed at the weekend)

Is the standard up to that of the Ibis??

I didn't have time to go through all the posts in this topic so my apologies if this has been asked/answered before but will this hotel policy apply to all future ME events or is this just for Eclipse 3 ? I won't be at Eclipse 3 but will book for The Hub 2.

Personnally, I think it is a very unfair way to proceed. Whatever the reasons, people should be able to cancel a room at any time. In my case, I didn't go due to professional reasons even though I thought and

still think that the line-up wasn't worth the price of the gold pass. Maybe one night penalty could be okay but certainly not 3 ! And take the money long time in advance will just prevent me from booking early.

I agree in that I prefered Eclipse 1 and lfcc over eclipse 2. It was ok..the guests were great of course, but there was either far too little to do (in the case of sunday with NOTHING to do until 2pm!) or sat morning you had to wait around all morning or miss a photoshoot! Anywhere else you could walk off for a bit and do something.

And the 'parties' fri and sat wernt very fun for me. The saturday for example couldnt even get near one of the casino tables, so still have my linderman money thing! But anyway, enough of that for now in here.

Onto the hotel..

I very much doubt i'll be at eclipse 3 unless someone VERY major is announced, and even then would be book at the last min. Also doesnt help theres about 4 events all within a couple of weeks of each other, with E3 being my lowest priority atm. But with this new policy anyway, it rules me out even more. I dont have a spare £180 (for 3 nights) lying around to pay for a hotel this far in advance myself, especially with several events between now and then, and I wouldnt get any cash from potential roomies to help pay for one until the first day of the event. That means I wouldnt be able to pay for a room until I got there, which by then there probably wouldnt be any left! So seems stupid to me as it only favours the wealthy who have that kind of money lying around spare to pay things off.

thats a point...never thought of that me and river normaly go halfers on the rooms as well so we split the cost when we arive or on departure, so it meens one of us wuld have to pay upfront.....

My friend who is planning to go to eclipse 3 wanted to re-book the ibis for that one, like he did for E2 at E1, but they wanted him to pay this time and said would be better off waiting till april when their apparently going to be doing special offers online.

Well my friend decided last minute to attend Eclipse 2 and i managed to get her a room that was about to be cancelled (which shows Slay Candy's way of thinking where rooms can be moved to other peoples names can work) and i took this in my name and as i was getting my friend checked in she found out that (other than the guests) she had one of the first renovated rooms, i went to check this room out and i have to say they are amazing rooms, very VERY nice, i was very impressed and jealous as myself and my roomy had went for a luxury room on floor 7 and even though our room was nice the renovated room made me see that once the hotel is done it will be one amazing place to stay room wise as well as the added plus of fab breakfast so i still state people should consider The Park over The Ibis, it would be good to put a deposit but then if maybe theres a section on the forums that could be a waiting list for rooms or even a section where people can discuss swapping there rooms (i dunno) means noone loses out, it is cr*p to have to pay in advance but again Jase+Slay Candy are right that everyones in same boat off paying so rooms wont sell out fast.

One thing i do want to know but it is very unlikely to happen but as an event can be cancelled or moved would the hotel room be moved at no extra cost and if an event was cancelled what happens about rooms, would the hotel refund under these special circumstances?

I have to admit i knew people that where cancelling there rooms and i only knew off one with a good reaosn as they had started a new job and working over weekend and they had paid for a ticket or the event whilst everyone else had held there rooms and never bought a ticket which i felt was shocking when i had other friends in The Ibis plus Crew having to go over there too. Luckily i took the room of my friends hands (the one with a good reason) and meant he didnt have to worry about it and another friend benefitted :YAHOO:

It was a great Con, i actually flew down Saturday and also only wanted to meet Stephen and in the end was glad to meet the others and it was such a relaxed and friendly event, the staff was very helpful, the crew are always amazing and the fun things planned at night hehe so funny, the attendees are always put first by ME+SM.

I was hoping to stay at the Park Inn for E3, but paying up front is sucky. I was planning on buying a silver ticket with my January loan and paying for the hotel/spends with my April loan. Boo. I may have to reconsider and stay at the good old Ibis... where people steal quilts from you at 4am and it takes forever to make a sandwich. But, I love Ibis really, it's just the walking back part (especially the forced detour through the dark park outside the Park Inn).

Wouldn't necessarily work - there were quite a number of people on here posting before the event who said that they had tickets for the event but weren't going to come because of the line-up; they could well have been among the people who cancelled their rooms late.

Just because you pay in advance does not necessarily mean you will lose all your money if you cancel. Just because you don't pay in advance doesn't mean you won't get charged if you cancel late.

Has anybody actually checked what the cancellation charges policy under the new pay in advance arrangement is?

I heard that the Ibis policy changed too... I haven't checked though.

The Ibis have different offers online

The cheapest being the one you get NO refund, the other 2 are flexible but slightly dearer

However when you book for the 3 nights it seems to give the refund option and is also a good deal

Wish I had known about the room cancellations at the Park Inn for E2 as in spite of being on a waiting list I was not offered a room and ended up in the Ibis, which I hated. I therefore booked my room for E3 at the Park Inn straight away. I was a little surprised that I had to pay upfront, and to be fair because of that I only booked 2 nights instead of the 3 that I normally do for convention weekends.

I think you will find that some silly people left it to the very last minute to cancel , and at the registration desk they had info on rooms available at the Park

It is annoying when some people prefer to stay at the Con hotel but miss out because of those not turning up
