Buffy Lover
I wasn't sure if this topic should go here, so sorry if it shouldn't. But, I was wondering what the best kind of things to get signed, are? I was thinking of taking one of my Buffy books or DVDs or something to get signed, but I'm not sure. So, what are the best types of things?
selby
I like 8x10's and my photo shoots much more personal but its personal preference.
Manbeast
When I first started coming to these events, I just got an 8x10 signed. They start to take up a lot of room and there isn't a really good way for me to display them. Then I moved onto cast shots for Lost and Firefly since I could get more signatures on one item. Now I collect movie posters so I can get a lot of signatures on one item, and they look great framed on a wall. I've never really understood the appeal to getting a signature on a DVD sleeve though. jakeblue
Have to disagree with that, i love getting dvds signed, but then i am a huge movie mark so thats my excuse and im sticking to it :)
Laurenx
Personally, I just get 8x10's signed. Occasionally I may get a movie poster signed but I don't have much space to display them so I do tend to stick to the 8x10s most of the time. Avengers7
From a personal point of view, I think it depends on who it is. I mostly get 8 by 10s signed but I have also had some posters, books and dvd sleeves signed depending on who the person is.(Indiana Jones guests for example sign my book). I also like the prints that are sold in the events signed especially the black and white cast shots. Its really down to personal preference. Lennybear
Myself i get posters, occasionally 10x8's but if a big guest comes along i will try to find something unique like a film prop or a costume they have used or worn and have quite a collection now i am proud of now. andker08
I like getting autographed pictures from the guests. When I get home I frame them all, and hang them all on the wall. My ambition is to fill all of my walls. So far I have 7, so err... it will be a while before I manage that.
maegurwen
lool, i prefer the 8 by 10's my self. I have no were to hang them so i put them in a folder and i look at them whenever i want to...which is good as it brings back fun memories to me
Emma_Adams
I get most of my pics on 8x10s. I used to display them on the side of my wardrobe, but i now have too many, so i have put them in a folder, and look at it when i like, and also, since they have been in a folder, they are easy to carry around etc
bondaholic
I normally get 8*10 signed but If I have a prop used in the film then I will get that signed or somtimes a figure box of the character. nicky
I've never really understood the appeal to getting a signature on a DVD sleeve though. I get a DVD signed if I don't have the poster of the film already OR I get a DVD signed if I don't think I'll be able to get the rest of the cast/crew to sign it. - One sig alone is fine on a DVD. I don't have enough room to display every item that has just one sig on. One sig alone isnt worth displaying on a wall so it's just easier room-space-wise just to have it on a DVD. Buying a poster just so that one guest can sign it is a bit of a waste IMO (unless it for an important guest like director or lead actor) and even if you want to build up the poster with multiple sigs, you need to think about how realistic it might be that other guests from that film will attend cons. Purple Cheese Monkey
I started with 8x10's, which I still get signed, but after years of doing conventions I now get cast pictures signed. The reason for this is that I don't have the room to frame and display all of my 8x10's, so cast photo's and posters are a good way to show who you've met while saving on space. But I also like to get some dvd covers signed. Although I have spoken to many autograph dealers about cover signings, and from their p.o.v. they're not worth it as they are hard to sell on as they have no display potentional, other that within the case; I like them. Being a Trekkie, I love knowing that I have my favourite movie signed by the Captain and main villain of the film. I also have a number of horror movies signed by the starring psycho/monster. I think they look cool in my collection. My last dvd cover signing was Doctor Who, Series 4 Volume 2, signed by Georgia Moffett. But I also have other items signed: Books, DeLoreans, Mini Busts, Playing Cards, Comics, Artwork. It's upto you what you want signed. If you want them to be unusual as part of your collection, or something for a future investment and resale.
Tracy Jane
I usually stick to 8x10s and photo shoot pictures. I don't frame them, I have a photo album I keep them in (mainly because when I started con-going I was a student and moved around a lot, so keeping things in a book was easier to transport from flat to flat). I have a Stargate Continuum poster that is signed by everyone except Don Davis (may he rest in peace), Claudia Black and Cliff Simon. It's also got Brad Wright (writer/show runner) and Martin Wood (director) on there. It was just good fortune I got that, rather than actually trying, so I ran with the poster thing. It's framed in my living room. As for DVDs... My mum wouldn't frame a signed picture or do anything with it. So when I interviewed Amanda Tapping a while back, she signed a DVD sleeve for my Mum's birthday. I'm thinking of getting my BSG DVDs signed by cast members... one cast member per DVD, maybe. That way, I'm not getting loads and loads of 8X10s, and an unfinished cast photo won't **** me off. I'm slightly OCD and if I don't get the cast photo finished, I will get really twitchy (like I am with my continuum poster, but I've just had to accept that it's never getting finished). jael001
For TV shows that have them I like to get the Companion books signed so I can collect multiple sigs in one place that's easy to keep. For Heroes I've got a poster I'm getting signed but it's a pain to carry around and is already getting a little crushed, despite being kept in a postertube. I've had dvds signed in the past but I'm not that bothered about those. I've also started to get scripts signed recently. I get them personalized as I'm not ever planning on selling them, but I think scripts are an interesting bit of me.morablia (why can't I post the word without it changing it to "collectables"?. Kayim
I've had all sorts signed in the past, starting with trading cards (back in my SG1 days). More recently, I collected autos on the covers of trading card binders (Supernatural and Smallville). I also collect some on 10x8's. However, I'm getting a little fed up with having autos all over the place, so I've started an autograph book. Eventually, if I get the hang of it, I'm going to transfer them from that to a proper scrapbook.....

It's the name of a rival show, so it's filtered hmm, but that's just silly really because it's a word that obviously directly relates to what Showmasters does, no matter if it's word that also relates to a rival show...the word colletables was not appropriate in the context I was writing it. I agree of course... On top of that, to be perfectly honest I tend to think if you go to one of the shows organized by that 'rival' organizer you'll only go once. But, I was wondering what the best kind of things to get signed, are? I was thinking of taking one of my Buffy books or DVDs or something to get signed, but I'm not sure. So, what are the best types of things? From main cast Buffy and Angel people I have autographs on photos framed on my wall. For smaller cast members (or main cast people I have met again) I usually get my Buffy Watchers Guide books or Angel Case Files books signed. For people I have met alot of times, trading cards, DVD sets and Once More With Feeling CD booklet are good too.

Jedi Master
I started with just 8x10's but now I get dvd's signed, usually special edition or collectors editions. I've also got a few film cels signed, I try to find ones with the guest on them.
Kit Fisto
I get most of my autographs on japanese chirashi now. The artwork is pretty good most of the time. Although if I'm getting loads of signatures from one show then I'll usually get a larger poster signed. More room for multiple signatures.
selby
I do have a supernatural richart piece also a HP poster whats framed action figures and a couple of dvd sleeves but usually 8x10s and shoots. I would love to get a cast photo but it would annoy me soooo much if I didnt complete it and Posters usually get wrecked with me Action figures are good to get signed if they have one but dvd's aren't for me the ones I got was presents and I cant display them so there in a box. I do have a few items framed like my eve and Emma 8x10 and shoot underneath looks very nice and im working on doing a buffy/angel girl wall. Im getting my CL and PS 8x10's framed as well as I love them :). All my heroes 8x10s are signed to me and on one of my wall only one line so far but soon it will be the whole wall (slight exaggeration). With the other show I used to go to the other one in the NEC because it was near me and didn't no about SM I met some great guests there but none as good as SM the people who have taken over them are rubbish guest wise.
