billy_bob
HOW VIRTUAL QUEUING WORKS Imagine that you have a queue of one thousand people all waiting to see Elijah Wood. Those people could just stand in the queue all day and wait their turn. What Showmasters do is this...  Showmasters start with the first person in the queue and give them a numbered ticket, then give tickets out to each person in the queue. As soon as each person gets their ticket they free to wander around the show and come back later.  When Elijah Wood arrives we call the first lot of tickets e.g. all numbers under 40  Everybody with a ticket under 40 can make their way to the Elijah Wood area and go up to meet him.  When that batch has gone through Showmasters start to increase the number e.g. all tickets under 60  now everybody who has a ticket under 60 can go to the Elijah Wood area  ... and so on through the day.  This means that you don't spend the whole day sitting / standing around queuing. It also means that you don't end up in a queue of 5000 people when Elijah Wood could only possibly meet a proportion of fans in one day.  VIRTUAL QUEUING The Facts  There is strictly one ticket per person. This means each person who goes up to see a guest will need a ticket whether they are getting an autograph or just holding a camera for a friend. This is to prevent queue jumping and keeps it fair for those who were genuinely in the queue first. If Showmasters didn't do this there would be nothing to stop 6 people getting a ticket each whilst queuing then all going to meet the guest under one ticket and giving / selling the other five to people who joined the queue too late. To avoid embarassment please make sure that you get a ticket for everyone who goes up to meet the guest.  You have to be in the queue to get a ticket (we can't give more than one ticket to each person). This also is to prevent queue jumping.  Tickets will be limited for very popular guessed as they can only meet a finite number of fans in one day and regrettably higher numbers aren't guaranteed to meet the guest. The advantage to the system though is that you're not kept standing around in a queue when it's clear that there are too many people for the guest to meet.  You don't 'miss' your chance with virtual queuing. As long as the number called is higher than the number shown on your ticket you are still free to join the queue. e.g. if the number called is 370 and your ticket is number 68 you can still join.  As Showmasters don't allocate tickets in advance the virtual queuing is essentially the same as a traditional queue system but it allows fans more freedom at the shows.  If you are the first in the queue on the day you will get the first ticket!
