The Bill

Is there really that much of a demand for the actors from this show?

The Bill has a long and storied follwing - including myself - who would love to meet the cast. I am good friends with someone who knew Billy Murray back in the day when he socialised with the Krays and their associates. Apparently he is a very nice man.

I have also heard that Trudie Goodwin and Mark Wingett are very fan friendly and always respond to fanmail as and when they can.

Have to admit I tend to agree with Owl on this one. I can see someone like Billy Murray or Mark Wingett as they have done a few different things. have to say though the likes of the two that have been announced this evening I just can't see being that popular.

I know that these guests won't stop SM getting any big names guests from film or TV and I know that they are trying to cater for all tastes, I just don't see many people paying out £30-£40 for a set of Bill autographs they can/could easily get for free by writing to the programme.

That said I didn't think the Allo Allo thing would be that popular but people seemed to go for that!

I have just seen the new announcements. It seems a mini Bill reunion is on. I can see your point of things, but I think you will find The Bill stars getting a fair few with Billy and Mark the most as they have been in Eastenders as well.

I must admit I'm a bit bemused about it too - but at the end of the day it's different strokes for different folks - one of the good things about SM events is that they cater to everyone.

Exactly.

And yet, you seem to be the sole representative of the Bill fan club on this forum....

Not at all - it's just, as with almost all things here, it's the naysayers and whingers who bother to post.

Very true, after all the threads for when the Heroes guests were announced are full of people complaining!

I think it's an interesting group of people to have, I'm sure it has a cult following out there.

I'll certainly be getting all thier signatures for my Mum as she loves the show :)

CM is a diverse event covering a wide age range. The Bill actors/actresses will more than likely appeal in the main to the older part of that range. Heroes is by far the in thing at the moment and will be in The Bill's position down the line. I have seen many people ask why certain Star Wars or Harry Potter guests are invited as they are bit parts. Yet, they are always busy.

To compare The Bill and Heroes is like comparing chalk and cheese.

Different people like different things, and remember that not all attendees of CM post on these boards. I always see many guests on this board who never join. I have already arranged for my friend to get me some of The Bill autos as I will not be there. Which is a shame as I would have loved to have met Billy Murray and ask him if he is still in contact with someone I know who knows him from way back when.

Mind you, they could always sign a couple of the fit PC's. After all, one is Billy Murray's screen daughter..

Just my 2p, but I'm not sure how nice a chap you can be when you socialize with known murderers. The whole 'mythos' that has appeared about how the Krays were great guys who only "messed about with their own" is a load of crap - they were psychopaths!

And on top of that, I was never a big Spandau Ballet fan....

I think that the Bill is a popular show, well it must be it has been going for 23 years. I am glad that Sgt Bob Cryer has been announced aka Eric Richard and also Nula Conwell who played Viv Martella, great to see, I am also pleased about Elizabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, when she was in Doctor Who a couple of years ago it was as though she had never left in my opinion, obviously a great actress.

I just thought to myself, who the hell wants to see people who played characters in the Bill, then I thought... Hangon a mo, I know more then a few people who think the same about me getting Star Trek actors autographs, so really it doesn't seem to weird to me now when I look at it like this...

As others have said if it wasn't that popular then it wouldn't have been running for over 20 odd years (and its still going) who knows how long it will stay on the air for...

There are so many actors going to these events, you can't all seriously be getting all there autographs can you, there is always going to be at least 1 person that most people don't want to see, this time it just happens that quite a few people on these forums don't want to see the Bill actors

But there are people that don't post on these forums who go to the events, so maybe some of them might want to see them, like a few who have posted above do...

As I have said before each to there own, and who here agrees that showmasters would not have got the bill acotrs to C12 if they thought no one wanted to see them, that would be stupid to say the least...

I just hope that everyone that goes to see them, has a good time meeting all of them :D

Totally agree with you on that. I have met far too many idiots who idiolise the Krays, yet are 40 years behind the times. They think they were/are cool. I find it very sad. Billy Murray himself has commented that his connections with The Krays were tenuous as I think it was Reggie Kray who took a shine to him and helped him into Stage School etc. I am in the same mind as you as regards their mental state. What state of mind do you have to be in to do what they did or sanction what happened?

As regards how nice a chap someone can be; do you not think that people can change over such a long period of time? Billy Murray may have socialized with the Kray family, but if you look at his career you will see that his career and family path have been very positive. How can someone who produces his beautiful daughter be all that bad? :P

And on top of that, I was never a big Spandau Ballet fan....

I might go and meet the Bill cast, my brother is going to meet a couple of them anyway. Everyone should go and meet Billy Murray anyway, to convince him to get his daughter to go to a future Showmasters event. :hathor:

I second, third, fourth and one millionth that notion.

I agree with you there, I was using Heroes as an example to another poster who said that most guest reactions are negative, Heroes was just an example of an annoucement where there had been a lot of popular reaction. There's no real comparison between the two series in terms of fan base, popularity etc.

End of the day if the demand for guests from any programme, be it The Bill, Eastenders, Never The Twain etc is there then by all means get the guests in for it. God knows theres enough obscure guests I've asked for in the past!

Never The Twain

I fondly remember watching this show.

Donald Sinden and Windsor Davies (my Mum knows him) would be a cracking photo. And Windsor was in Doctor Who as well, whilst Donald guested in The Prisoner.

They would be cracking guests.

Actually they would be good guests, I just happened to see a repeat on TV the other night so it just popped into my head as a good random programme!

I think it's a fairly logical move in terms of .. well, they had one or two Bill guests, so why not get some more?

They probably wouldn't be as popular if they were on their own, but if there's a fair few of them together then sometimes people will make a decision that it's worth the expenses to go along and meet them all.

I don't know how popular they'll be, but I think it's more sensible to have a few of them than just one.
