Wow....

I've just spent ages reading through this and I can understand how some of you feel in regards to lack of guests/names etc.

But.....

I've been going to conventions for YEARS with all different sorts of organisers. Now isn't a convention about the WHOLE experience - the talks, the workshops, the photo sessions, the parties, the autograph signings, making new friends with the same interest as you among other things?

I've NEVER booked an event purely on a guest that may or may not be announced.

I book a convention to 1) mainly spend time with like minded people and to catch up with friends old and new and 2) because I have an interest in the theme, be it, Dr Who, Buffy, Angel, Supernatural, Stargate, Heores, etc etc etc etc.

Yes, it's disappointing if you've seen the same guests before, but trust me it's different meeting them at a signing event than meeting them at an actual convention. You get to learn more about them, you get to see more of them, and hell, you may even get to party with them (if they attend the party).

Now at the end of the day it is down to the individual whether or not they want to book to attend - I'm not saying you should and I'm not saying you shouldn't.

I am however saying is give the event a chance - you may be surprised and enjoy it more than you think regardless of the calibre of guests. :headscratch:

Not trying to be argumentative but where did they promise big guests? I can't remember every last thing that has been said about this event by everyone, but I can't believe anyone would ever 'promise' something in relation to getting guests as that's not something that can be 100%.

And as for non-refundable rooms etc, that's the decision of the attendee and not the organisers responsibility I'm afraid.

I respect that but what of those that booked the radisson hotel itself?

Don't get me wrong I am still hoping and believing this event will go ahead! :D

Nicely put and agree wholeheartedly

As far as I know, it really doesn't make a difference, and I'd be surprised if it did.

That would be one of a few reasons why I've never done conventions before - I don't know many people that do them, so I'm not one for overly socialising by myself, and I WOULD be going for the guests .. and I've always been wary about guest lists changing, or booking early with only one guest etc with a non-refundable hotel and all that ..

Obviously people attend for different things, and that's fair enough. I totally respect that, and it's an unfortunate situation all round if money is lost.

Luckily for Eclipse/Lockdown, my first proper convention experiences, I don't have to pay for hotel until I'm there, so that's helped my decision to attend both :headscratch:

Lets all keep calm and give them a few more days....then I think it will be 'make or break'.

By the way...no I haven't bought my ticket yet....too much to consider....the price, the days off work, family commitments, etc. I just can't commit to the ticket until I know a little more is confirmed.

We would be more than happy to go if there were more guests and high calibre. Maybe someone who has not attended a showmasters show before. There would be 4 of us going.

Ian Holm would be my one choice as I am sure we would not get Sir Ian Mckellan.

What about - Brent Mclntyre, Jed Brophy, Bruce Hopkins, John Noble, Miramnda Otto, Thomas Robins (I know he has attended before), Karl Urban, Steven Ure and Brad Dorrif.

I never expected SM to foot the bill, I was just wondering if it was likely that the hotel would waive the fee's.

Well I've always figured non-refundable rooms were exactly that .. I don't know the terms/conditions of it. I'm sure you can contact them if/when it's necessary and find out.

yeah, thanks, I thought there may be a possibility if the event was cancelled. Probs not though. Fingers crossed the event does go ahead though, I've not met Andy or David Wenham so that would be cool, just wish they could get sean bean or summit.

I think promise was the wrong word to use, but I was under the impression it would be quite big guests with the hobbits reference etc. Heck they got EWood at last years LFACC and Dom at this years.

Perhaps I was being presumptious.

I guess i'm a bit disappointed about not knowing if it's going ahead or not.

It's natural to be disappointed - don't worry, you're not the only one :headscratch:

As for expectations, everyone has them! Even Showmasters. They obviously wouldn't have wanted things to end up like this, and no doubt they were planning on getting as good a lineup as they possibly could - unfortunately with timing etc, it's just not worked out the way anyone wanted it to! We all know they're more than capable of getting high-quality guests, but it really is a case of wrong place, wrong time with this event it seems.

Yeah, well Collectormania Glasgow really whet my appetite for this one. I would've went to LFACC though if this one wasn't going ahead as at the start it was a choice between this and LFACC, so it would suck if this fell through as I really wanted to go to LFACC too. I will go to LFACC next year though.

Hey Db do you have some kind of insider info, its just you seem to have kinda written of this event? Please note: this is NOT an argumentative post but an honest question

They are :headscratch: I lost out on a weekend worth of hotel costs when LFCC was changed. No amount of pleading got my money back. I had a little whine for about two posts and then just moved along.

hmmm, so far the Radisson hasn't charged my credit card although I do have a guranteed reservation. What about the rest of you? Did you already pay?

I am not sure how they handle things for another show, but for last year's Autographica my card (that I had guaranteed the reservation with) was only charged when I got there.

It was a non-refundable rate as well back then, but of course that was another show and it was a year ago.

I find that with high end hotels they only charge on check-in or check-out depending if your wrecked your room! However if you DON'T check-in thats when they may charge us (if another show gets cancelled) so if it does get cancelled than cancel your credit card LOL :(

:( But if you had advance warning of the cancellation and you contacted the hotel in good time for them to flog the room to someone else, would they still want you to cough up? :o

Liking the idea of cancelling the credit/debit card in this situation more than is probably wise...or legal... :(

Haven't met David Wenham yet, so if he's confirmed I'll definately be going.

(I was going to book my ticket anyway, but nearer the time - i.e. October's payday lol)

Great to hear, one more tick in the 'YES' box :(

Have you been keeping a tally at all, FLM? I started one last night, but was so tired that I started adding in people who said they might go and confused myself all together. :(

Bloody hell this thread is longer than the entire trilogy!!!!

I hope Jason is starting tomorrow morning on completing Messers Wenham and Rhys Davies' confirmation and any other guests such as (hopefully) John Noble, Bruce Hopkins, Brad Douiff etc who havn't been to these shores for some time. These guests would add (in my view) real value to the weekend.

We still have a great line up assuming the above (2) gets confirmed.

Address the important day pass issue (once guest days have been confirmed - which will have to be quick!!) so more people can start booking and we ALL will make this event a success.

I also think there will be people who will turn up ''on the day'' which is hard to quantify but is a reality.

God I hope this takes place and we can at least try and look on the funny/bright side together on Saturday night!!

YES!!! :(

Okay, there may be people saying that this still only makes about 90 tickets sold, but that's a pretty good rate over a couple of days, I'd've thought. :(

Or am I being way too naive and over-optimistic here? :(
