Just got back!

Thanks for the advice from everyone it helped a lot!

The Gold Pass is a blessing as it helped a lot...£35 well spent. (and thanks again to Dave for sorting out my little problem with the post!)

Was number 2 in the line to see Buzz..........such a nice man and £90 was well spent.

Went to Ursula next, again that was good and she was allowing posed photos with flash.

Then on to Scott Carpenter, one of the original Mercury 7...a very nice man, we had a discussion on grammar and handwriting technique!

Stella Stevens............great lady. Posed nicely with my dad.

Julian Glover, terrific bloke.

Harvey Stephens.............great guy, we chatted about making The Omen and what he remembers about Gregory Peck/Lee Remick.

I'm thinking I may need a Diamond Pass next time.........

Great event, thanks to all!

Mighty Max -I can confirm that the Guy with the Brown Leather Jacket was the same Guy and if I ever see at him at another Show will tell him in no uncertain terms what he is!!!!

Yep he was a prized pr*ck!!! I can't stand people like that! From the way he was acting I guess it was his first outing for years! He wasn't like everyone else there that was there for love of these kind of events but hey the tw*t was only a small glinch on a terrific day!

I am thinking about doing the Diamond Pass in March as well it will be a nice little b'day present to myself

Just got back and what a brilliant day, I honestly have not enjoyed a show as much as this in a long time!  There was such a relaxed atmosphere and all the guests were just so nice and friendly.

I met the following guests -

John Terry: What can I say, this is the one I was so looking forward to meeting and it just made my day.  I got several items signed by John incouding an original Hawk The Slayer poster which he just thought was so cool and said he has only ever seen 1 other in the past and his mum had that 1.  I had a nice chat with him and got some nice photos taken with him, he even had THE SWORD!  So I he took a photo of me holding the sword which was cool     Best guest ever  ;)

Heather Langenkamp:Heather was really nice, she is somebody I have wanted to meet for a long time so this was a cool experience.  Love the photo that she signed.

Amanda Wyss: Amanda was also lovely and quite chatty, very pleased that I made the decission to meet her.

Brian Blessed: The man is a legend, he had me laughing so much when he was speaking about Dave Prowse and doing impressions of Dave doing Darth Vader;s voice.  We also had a good chat about football, and i kept him updated on the Spurs vs Arsenal score.

Ursula Andress:Ursula was nice and friendly, I was very impressed.  Although doesn't she look a bit weird these days?  Excellent signature, well worth the £25

Harvey Stephens: Another top guest and friendly guy, excellent signature with the 666 written in red!  Asked him how much the Tricycle was valued at but he didn't know, although said Planet Hollywood had inquired about it in the past.

Pamela Sue Martin: Pamela was lovely, and I think still quite attractive :P   Had a little chat about the Poseidon Adventure with her.

Stella Stevens:What a lovely woman, got 2 photos signed and she was so friendly.  Had a nice chat with her, and would like to see her over here again.

Carol Lynley:As with the other Poseidon ladies, Carol was lovely.

Priscilla Barnes: I'm in love     She was so nice and we chatted about Devils Rejects for quite some time, I really enjoyed talking to her.

Here are the scans of my autos, although I have not included my 3 hawk the slayer posters as they are obviously 2 large to scan.  I will post my photos from the event when they are developed.

Just a quick post to say how enjoyable my first autographica experience was...

opted for the Friday evening rather than a full day as unfortunately I didn't have much cash free to spend this month

Was very pleased to see Priscilla Barnes (I know she was advertised all along but I was concentrating so much on getting there to meet Heather and Amanda, I hadn't really looked at any of the other guests as they were announced)

Anyhow... Priscilla was wonderful, very friendly and seemed to be having a great time chatting with everyone - I was lucky enough to get to buy a huge devil's rejects poster from her that she signed for me (poster with signiture included was just £15!) She was also very happy to pose for several photos with me. A pleasure to meet her and that poster is going to come in very handy for another month as there's plenty of room for more of the cast to sign it  :P

Heather and Amanda - both completely brilliant.. couldn't have hoped for nicer people - very chatty, very friendly and had lots of stories about what it was like making Nightmare on Elm Street. Both happily posed for photos with me too. (signitures were both £15 each)

Probably the shortest visit I've ever made to any type of signing event, although if I'd had more cash I'd have stayed until they kicked me out. From what I saw of the other guests, they were all equally as happy meeting and chatting to everybody...

I only had about 4 photos taken (with the previously mentioned ladies) - if there's a photo thread started later, I'll post them then.

Thank you to Dave and the rest of the organisers for giving me the opportunity to meet such nice people in such a wonderful venue - hope the rest of the weekend goes well for all involved and best wishes for future events

I'm now off to find a piggy bank to start saving for next March!  ;)

i look foward to seeing ur pics of Heather and Amanda, itl be intresting to see how theyve changed, if at all

Mai Ling

Autograph was a bit weird as she spelt her name May Ling :headscratch:

888265

Slightly weird, perhaps, but remember that her name is Chinese or Japanese, and therefore would originally be written in a completely different alphabet. Transliterating that into English isn't an exact science, and I would guess that "May" is equally as correct as "Mai". (As an analogu, think of how we use -ise endings to words, whereas Americans tend to use -ize, e.g. personalise/personalize - that comes from transliterating from ancient Greek).

Granted it's a bit strange that she's using an alternate version to the one that has appeared in film credits, but it's entirely understandable.

Yer i know what you mean - I understand its up to her how she spells her name maybe she's really May Ling but stage name was Mai Ling - I dont mind anyway as i have her autograph now which i've wanted for ages :D

I got an autograph from Gloria Douse who appered in AVTAK - but she signed it Gloria Thomas as she is now married so its differnt from her credited name in the film. - So i understand how Mai Lings can be different

I was qutie suprised as she said she was partly Indonesian

Today was my first Autographica and i'm already looking forward to the next.

Very friendly and relaxed environment.

Guests i met:-

Ursula Andress - met her mid-afternoon; she was pleasant enough but not much interraction but i'm assuming after 3 days she was tiring. especially if she is recovering from an eye op. but at least i got to meet a cinema icon!

Harvey Stephens - nice bloke, friendly. happy to pose for pics, even when camera didnt work first couple of times.

Clifton James - now i'm not really into Bond, but he seemed pleased that i had a pic from 'The Last Detail' for him to sign. Something different i guess.

Carol Lynley, Stella Stevens, Pamela Sue Martin - all very nice. excellent selection of pics, with a bonus - signed personal items were only £10.

saved the best till last:-

Amanda Wyss & Heather Langenkamp - fantastic. long/friendly chats with both. great posed pics. lots of stories about Robert Englund. highlight of the day! What is it about the 'Elm Street' people ? - have to say they have been the best guests i have met .

final word for Garry & Dave. THANKS.

I thought that this event was more grown up!

I'm sounding old I know!

The hotel was a very plush venue and it felt good saying to the *ahem* bus driver "Radisson Edwardian please"

I met many of the guests and my experiences were similar to the aforementioned ones but without a doubt the mighty Brian Blessed just rocked!

All in all a very good event and I will definately go again (as long as there are good guests obviously).

Stella Stevens, nice lady, badly positioned (darkish corner, no effective light nearby by then). Prices differed between Playboy and Poseidon.

Btw if you just want the photo/still, most seemed to be £1 each, or 'free' with the autograph.

888057

For the prices between Stella's photos, I can say that these were here own photos so she could set a price. Unlike regular SM events alot of the guests wanted to bring their own photographs and memorable items for signing, so that they could be real one off's. It was up to her and not SM Dave or Gary how much she charged per photo, tho we did try too keep it all reasonable.

Anyway to Ursula Andress, let me start with queue,I joined the queue at 1345 for the afternoon signing commencing at 1400 to discover I was 2nd in Line and the Guy in front of me boldly stated that he should'nt be there yet as he did'nt have a Diamond or Gold Pass and even told the Security Chap.

Congratulations and  Thanks to Dave & Gary

888180

On Saturday there was two members of the security team helping at Ursula's que, myself (tho I was just assisting, and assiting with Buzz's que also) and Phil. Phil was the head of security for the event, and he know's what he was doing. If this person didnt have a pass, then they were most likely there for a reason. We did escort some people out who wernt supposed to be there. Are you sure it wasnt just someone with a regular day pass?? Because these were wrist bands? If he had one of these and a virtual que ticket then he was fully entitled to join the que.

I attended on Saturday and had a great time (I was a Gold Ticket Holder) I got my Buzz and Ursula tickets (numbers 54/55) there seemed to be a bit of confussion about how they worked (appeared to be a misunderstanding with SM and customers).

Well done to everyone that was involved!

888253

Firstly for people not familiar with how vitual queing works please click the link below and it is explained. If there is still confussion then please do ask at the events.

Finally, thank-you for thanking us, we really enjoyed the show and its always better for us when you the visitors come away happy it means that the event was a success.

Obviously there will be some small glitches such as the man that got into a virtual que with a ticket too high, but it was probrabally to keep the que built, because Buzz is a person that gets bored if there is no que and so we needed to keep him busy. It didnt make a difference either, because both days we had an open que for BUzz Aldrin, so anyone could have joined at any time.

Well as always Autographica didn't disappoint, and getting the Gold Pass certainly paid off for getting in early and also getting Buzz and Ursula.

Where do I start ?

Buzz Aldrin

Well, we had been warned he wasn't going to come cheap and you were looking at £103 if you bought a 10x8, had him sign his name and his mission. However, there was a special 8 x 6 provided by Collect Space that he would sign and that in total came to £55, so not too bad. Don't even get on to completing the Apollo XI group shots, well not unless you had £300 with you. Anyway, having a low VQ ticket was a bonus as Buzz was signing slowly but steadily and there was time for photos etc Got two nice photos with him and three others of him signing to remember the day.

Ursula Andress

Only complaint here was there was no flash, which would have been fine, but she was in the darkest room in the Hotel ! Good selection of photos, £25 included the signature. She was really funny, I asked her how she was enjoying the weekend, and she laughed and said she had just been eating her breakfast and the next thing she was in here signing all these things. She then joked that I was having so many items signed (four in total) and that she was a little tired after that so she may have to take a break after signing my whole collection.

Pamela Sue Martin

I saw Pamela early on before the general opening and what a lovely lady, I got her to sign a Poesidon Cast Shot and had brought a colour 10x8 of her as Nancy Drew. She said to me that she didn't have that photo and would I trade it, so instead of getting that signed, she traded the photo with me for four of her other 10x8's all of which she signed. Had to be the deal of the day, four signed 10x8 for one that cost me £3.99 from moviemarket.

Stella Stevens

Very friendly as well signed cast shot and 10x8. Came round the table as well for the photo and gave me a big hug, which I wasn't expecting.

Carol Lynley

Pleasant, but a little more business like in her approach than the other two.

Mai Ling

A rare Bond guest from Goldfinger, and a very pleasant lady, looked a bit bemused by everything that was going on, but chatted and looked pretty good for her age.

Priscilla Barnes

What a lovely woman, spent time chatting to everyone, happy to pose for photos talk about films, career etc

Amanda Wyss

Very pleasant .

Heather Langenkamp

Another great guest, spent a while talking to her about her Nightmare on Elm Street films, and Wes Craven, She said she had loved working on the first film and the New Nightmare, but hated number 3. She blamed Pulp Fiction for stealing the box office from a New Nightmare when it came out . I asked her if she had seen Red Eye, but she said she hardly gets to see R rated films as she is normally taking her kids, although her husband (don't know who he is ?), is part of the Academy so in the Autumn they get all the Oscar films to watch before he votes.

John Terry

Very pleasant chap, spoke about Lost and how he had originally wanted the part of Locke, which went to Terry O'quinn. Said he always asks to see pilot of show before he accepts a part and when he saw it he knew it was going to be big.

Guy Hamilton

Very pleasant, signed my Live and Let Die DVD cover.

Scott Carpenter - Mercury Astronaut

Very pleasant man, chatted about the impact of the hurricane on the Kennedy Space Centre and his plans to move to Florida from Colorado. Apparently the Hurricane had damaged in particular the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building) and it would take 4 -5 months to repair.

Harvey Stephens

Smashing guy and thankfully my photo with him came out with no other worrying overlays !

Clifton James

Very pleasant.

Think that is the lot, thoroughly enjoyed the show. Autographica never fails to disappoint , and in terms of the time you get to chat to the guest wins hands down again.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out over the weekend , by taking photos etc, everyone is always so friendly at these events which is good to see.

I've been to Autographica for only a couple of hours on sunday as I was attending another event 5 minutes from there. I had the pleasure to meet John Terry who was absolutely nice and very chatty. Unfortunately he had no 24 pics but he said that several people have asked for a 24 picture so he will definitely bring them the next time he is invited. I've also met Harvey Stephens who was nice too and I'm glad I could have my picture taken with him and his infamous bike. And that's it for me but I also met Pamela Sue Martin and Heather Langenkamp because I was there with Fugaziuk. They both were lovely but Martin will tell you better about his experience with these ladies.

The event was very quiet on sunday afternoon, which of course is part of the reason I could have very nice chats with the guests listed above.

Hello

On Saturday my two children and i visited Autographica with the main aim of getting Buzz Aldrin's signiture. Having bought advanced tickets in July i wrongly assumed that we would be ahead in the pecking order when queing to see Buzz. However the total chaos that ensued when the doors opened meant that we were allocated a ticket in the 400's. Seeing that he had only reached 150 when he reached his 2 HOUR lunch (2 hours???) the chances of us being able to see him before we had to leave were reduced to nil.Bearing in mind that we also wanted Alan Beans signiture but he had already cancelled after we had booked and the inflated price of £90.00 ( which we were prepared to pay) we feel more than a little dissapointed and it would seem that Autographica has left its roots behind. We left bitterly dissapointed and a very long and sobre journey home was the result of what should have been an exciting and unique day

There was a few confusions as things happened a little quick on Saturday morning, and it was the first time the two sets of crew had worked together. However, I would like to take 2 of your points and expand.

Firstly the 2hr Lunch break, it was not entirely Lunch, you may or may not have been aware but Buzz was taking part in the autografica talks on Saturday and Sunday these started at 12pm, and would last for 1 hour. He was then taking his lunch break rather than letting another 50 people come in and then have to leave again. It made sense and in reality it was a quicker way to run things (tho you may not have seen this). Obviously he came back and carried on with his signings.

Secondly had you waited and stayed for the whole day your ticket 400+ would have got in and you would have had the opportunity to see Buzz and collect autographs as he was there and he had an open que at the end of the day, meaning that anyone who wanted to could come in and get his autograph.

Yeah, great event, far superior to any Showmasters event I have been to previously. It was a bit tight, but that was definately a worthwhile sacrifice for the atmosphere that the really stunning hotel provided. There was an excellent range of dealers, decent looking food (though I didnt have any) and the layout of the guests was conienient and easy.

Major Positives

- Superb venue, great atmosphere for an event like this.

- Great line up of guests and a great signing experience (will expand later).

- Fair prices for both tickets and autographs.

- Queues slow moving but short enough not to be annoying.

- Good selection of dealers and stands, far better than I expected.

- Crew much more relaxed and friendly than at the usual hectic events.

Major Negatives

- Rediculously incovenient position within the city. The underground journey from Liverpool Street to Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 was almost 2 hours, longer than my journey into London from my house in Norfolk! The correct bus stop at Heathrow was hard to find, the bus was infrequent, a long journey, expensive and with a very unpleasant driver. I'm not sure even the superb venue was worth the hassle of this journey.

- Although the photos you had available were excellent, the best ones ran out really fast! You had a stunning photo of Blessed from Star Wars and only one non-collage photo of Mai Ling, both of which had run out by the time I got there in the middle of Saturday! There were also excellent pictures of Clifton and Carol which I only just got in time as the pile was right down. I know you cant predict how many photos to get, but when they have run out half way through the first day and you have to settler for rubbishy ones instead (the one I ended up with of BB was terrible), it is a real let down, especially knowing what could have been.

- The £1 charge for photos was essential, I guess, but very irritating as I kept having to break notes. Already having paid for an auto, I think it wouldnt be too much to ask to get a photo for free, but if you must charge, perhaps you could consider selling tokens for £1 each at the main desk which could be exchanged for photos, so I could buy 10 at once.

The Guests I Met

Ursula Andress - 9/10 - really, really superb. An example to all the A-List signers, she was really friendly, took her time, talkative, happy to personalise and add quotes and generally a stunner, and despite this, her queue was still not unbearably slow due to her commitment in not taking many breaks or loads of time out. Total opposite to the Shatner experience.

Carol Cleveland - 9/10 - I got very lucky that when I saw her, there was no one behind me in the queue and she was fully refreshed from a break. We talked for ages, she was very friendly (and very funny) and I think the fact that the best 10x8 of her was an enlargement of a private wedding photo shows how committed she is to her fans. Took every effort to get the writing on the photo perfect and as a result it is a gem in my collection.

Brian Blessed - 8/10 - what a guy, I heard his voice resonating out across the room some how drawing me to his queue. A long wait, but well worth it. Only disappointment, as said earlier, was the 10x8 photographs, but that was not his fault and he sure did all he could to make the experience as good as possible.

Mai Ling - 7/10 - quite quiet but very welcoming nonetheless, patient and with great handwriting :D

Clifton James - 7/10 - older than I expected and seemed to be finding the experience a little difficult , but still tried his best to be friendly. A little hard to talk to but through no fault of his, he was great all the same.

Guy Hamilton - 7/10 - true english gentleman, I love his accent and he was very interesting to speak to, especially about his earlier work on some of the greatest films of all time as an assistant director.

Priscilla Barnes - 7/10 - very popular so was a bit rushed but very friendly nonetheless and certainly a worthwhile experience.

John Terry - 6/10 - unforunately he could hardly remember anything about TLD, and as I hadnt seen him in anything else there wasnt much to talk about. Pretty much just a hello and a signature, happy to personalise though and even to add a quote.

I just wanted to go with your comment here. Showmasters have joined this event for the 1st time here, and we loved it. I know the organisers of regular SM events were desperately trying to get the photo's to be free of charge, and Dave and Gary were asking it to be £3, so a compramise was made at £1. This did cause many problems for myself as a runner over the weekend, as I had to keep finding £1 coins from anywhere. Tho it proved a different task to what I am used to.

I think that if they are going to continue to charge for photos in the future, that would be a very good idea, tho there is a cost involved in that but I am sure that SM Dave and Gary will have had a good chat about the weekend, and when they see peoples comments they will talk again, because all we want is to make Autografica 8 an amazing event! Even better than this one was.

Not actually true - but you wouldn't have known that, and your point is valid. By the time on Saturday we were down to 'collage' photos of May-Ling we had actually run out of three 'simple' photos, all from Goldfinger.

The demand for her autograph was clearly much higher than had been expected, either by her or the organisers. By closing time on Saturday we were down to a tiny number of remaining prints, and more had to be obtained for Sunday.

My source for this information? I was her guest assistant on Saturday

As a guest assistant the £1 charge was a nightmare. Spending the whole of Saturday with a guest charging £15, +£1 for the photograph, I was perpetually short of either £5 - no longer available from most cash-point machines these days or £1 coins.

The game I ended up playing was to see which I was in more desperate need of. If I had plenty of £1 coins I would give £4 in chage froma £20, and run down the coins. If I had plenty of £5 notes, I would ask the customer if they had the £1 coin, so that I could give them £5 change. It was a little chaotic, but thanks to the relaxed nature of the event I always managed to cope, and only once had to keep a customer waiting while I got change from the next assistant.

Thank-you to all those who had the right money!
