an unusual shot that is not run of the mill or a character they are not really known for as it hard to by some of the lesser character shots even on there own ie when robert englund was at collectormania loads of freddy shots not one of willie from v but was very surprised at comicon when matt wood had an ody mandrell image as i had tried to get one everywhere shame he didn't have a dug in the taxi shot as well

It depends on who it is. If it's somebody who I want because of a specific role, then a nice shot of them as that character either publicity or a still from the film/show. However if it is somebody who has appeared in a variety of roles I'm interested in, then I tend to go for a photo of the person not in character, or a close head-shot that could be from anything.

I always like to get 8X10 photos from the films with them in character. I was really dissapointed with some of the selections at C7. You had about 4 photos of Alexander Siddig and all were from Star Trek, it would have been nice (especially seen as the film was opening that week) for 'Kingdom Of Heaven', especially given he had quite a main part in the film, plus Fox had given his website several photos a few weeks before C7. I also thought that SM should have had more photos of Christian Simpson from films other than Star Wars, a shot of him from 'Gladiator' would have been cool. Or if SM can't get photos of characters then perhaps selling posters for their films at their tables would be cool. I also think, off topic a little bit, perhaps SM ought to advertise other work the guests have done, e.g. Christian Simpson was also in Mummy Returns, Gladiator and Batman Begins, yet they only advertised him as being in Star Wars.

Don't always go for a character photo, depends on a number of things.

1) Is the photo itself of a good/reasonable quality ?

2) Even if it's the greatest picture ever will the autograph you want show up on it clearly ie colour matching

problem, last thing you want is a black autograph on a darkblue/black background (Yes this has happened to

me before !!!)

3) Is it a more 'unusual' picture ,not one everyone else has got,or likely to get ? (Doesn't mean a

nude/seminude photo !!!)

4) Is the person well known enough to be recognised out of character ?

Have now started to outsource for most of my photos wherever possible, can take my time & pick a photo

that fits most/some of the above criteria.Think trying to decide whilst in the autograph queue makes you

rush & perhaps not pick the right picture.Yes am aware that buying your own photos does cost a bit more

(about £3 each),but if you provide your own photo when paying for your autograph you can have one of the

Showmasters pictures for free & then sell it on e-bay to make some money back.

I chose the head shot from my faverite film one, but i do try and pick up pics before the event just in case SM don't have pics from that film.

this approach has 2 benifits, first if they don't have a good pic (to grainey or bad pose) or not from that show and second one thing i have found with some of the actors with lots of different shows in there cv is that if you can bring something different , from some more obscure show they did they get the feeling you are more interested in them than just for an autograph .

i have been dissapointed in the past with a couple of the picture selections.

when i met denise crosby she only had next gen pictures , i was hopeing for a shot of her as the mayor in the key west tv series which she was realy good in but no luck .

to be fair i have not found one anywhere so far and it was a small show which got cancelled nearly 10 years ago

micheal ironside was another example, he has done tones of work but had a very limited selection of pics, very nice guy though.

on the other end of the scale SM has done some good choices, i took with me to the second lfcc an old predator cast shot lobby card for carl weathers to sign and SM had the exact same picture but slightly blown up and with out the thick white border so i was happy to spend that £15.

it is not ecanomicaly viable to produce pics from every show some actors have been in but it might be a good idea to put a threat next to every actor that is announced asking people which shows they want pictures from then work out a percentage for each show and do a selection along that line.
