BRITISH artists will be flocking to Olympia for this July for a chance to have their portfolios critiqued by Karen Berger, who will be a featured guest at London Film & Comic Con, which runs from July 28-31. Renowned for her leadership of Vertigo from its formative years through to its creation as DC's mature readers imprint in 1993 and for another 20 years until her departure in 2013, Berger did much to bring British talent to the attention of the American public. As editor she orchestrated a British invasion, giving a platform for Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, Peter Milligan and Mike Carey alongside Steve Dillon, Sean Phillips, Mark Buckingham, Jock, Duncan Fegredo and other such artists. Responsible for the publication of The Sandman, Preacher, Fables, Scalped, The Unwritten, 100 Bullets and Y the Last Man among numerous other memorable titles, Berger is ideally suited to offer professional advice to those illustrators – both conventional and experimental – who are dedicated to the art of drawing comics and seeking advice on how to improve their abilities. Artists will also be able to have their work assessed by Richard Bruning. Another DC luminary, he was the publisher's design editor from 1985 to 1990. Returning to the company in 1996 as vice-president creative director, he was promoted to senior vice-president six years later. The creator of DC's "spin" logo, he left the company in 2010. PLEASE NOTE: Only a limited number of portfolio review slots will be available each day and advance booking will be required. The schedule of times and details as to how to book will be announced closer to the event.
