Designer: Sex; Gødland OVER the past four years, Sonia Harris has collaborated constantly with Joe Casey. She has worked on all the writer's creator-owned projects since 2013, primarily as a designer but also producing logos and lettering as well as making other contributions to the look of his comics. At Image her credits include Butcher Baker, the Righteous Maker, The Bounce, Officer Downe, Sex,Gødland, Nixon's Pals and Valhalla Mad as well as Grim Leaper, an Image/Shadowline mini not written by Casey. Beyond Image, she has worked on Casey's Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers at Dynamite as wellBallistic (another non-Casey title) for Black Mask Studios. More recently Harris has been working with the writer to develop projects – Crunch Time and The Winternational among them – for Stela, a new digital comics platform.

Artist/designer: The Science Service; Dare; 2000 AD; Soho Dives, Soho Divas Attending: Saturday & Sunday MUCH in demand today as a designer, Rian Hughes began his comics career in 1983, producing his own small press minicomics before becoming a regular contributor to Escape Magazine, where his work continued to be featured until 1989. His first graphic novel, The Science Service was published in Belgium by Magic Strip in 1987 but by 1990 he was becoming well-known as a cover designer. Even so he continued to pursue his storytelling, most notably with the Grant Morrison-written Dare. A controversial reimagining of Dan Dare (the archetypal Pilot of the Future from the 1950s Eagle), the strip was serialised between 1990 and 1991 across the first seven issues of Revolver and Crisis #55-56. After it came a series of Tales from Beyond Science, which featured in various issues of 2000 AD between 1992 and 1994. Since then the artist has concentrated almost exclusively on his advertising work although his presence is still to be seen on the design of myriad comicbook covers and logos as well as a variety of lettering fonts. Hughes, whose impact on the look of the comics industry has been phenomenal, occasionally still returns to storytelling, contributing to such anthologies as Raymond Chandler’s Marlowe the Graphic Novel (iBooks; 2003), Project: Romantic(Adhouse Books; 2006) and Nelson (2011; Blank Slate Books). More recently he provided strips for 2014 issues of Batman: Black and White for DC and for DC/Vertigo's Vertigo Quarterly CMYK. Soho Dives, Soho Divas, a 2013 book of his illustrations, showcases the retro influence of much of Hughes' art. However, he is also an innovator as exemplified byOn the Line. The pioneering strip, which he created using Adobe Illustrator, ran inThe Guardian newspaper for two years from 2005.

RICHARD BRUNING Designer for Vertigo and DC ATTENDING: Friday, Saturday & Sunday BEST KNOWN for his work on over 100 covers for Vertigo and as the designer of the DC mature readers’ imprint visual style and logo, Richard Bruning has been working in comics since 1980. That was when he helped start the nascent Capital Comics, where (as editor-in-chief and art director) he was involved in such titles as Nexus, The Badger and Whisper. The publisher shut down in 1984 and a year later Bruning surfaced at DC as design director. As such he was involved with the look of Watchmen and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns while also serving as cover editor for the entire line. In addition he edited a number of series, including 1988’s The Prisoner (a four-part Prestige sequel to the cult TV show). He also oversaw the initial development and packaging of DC's collected editions line. In 1990 he left DC to run his own graphic design and corporate communications company, Brainstorm Unltd, but not before writing a three-volume prestige formatAdam Strange series with art by Andy and Adam Kubert. Returning to the company in 1996 as vice-president creative director, he focused on DC’s packaging, promotion and digital efforts, including the 2007 launch of DC’s first web imprint, Zuda Comics. Later promoted to senior vice-president, Bruning left DC in 2010 to concentrate on cartooning. His latest creation, Bob! the Presidential Atheist appears online twice a week at Bob4Prez.com.
