Latest Comic Guest Announcement - Gabriel Hernandez Walta Attending: Fri/Sat/Sun Artist – Astonishing X-Men Spanish-born artist Gabriel Hernández Walta worked as both a cartoonist and a painter in the European art scene for years, but it wasn’t until 2003 that he began working in American comics, drawing one of the miniseries for Jeff Mariotte’s CVO at IDW. After CVO he moved over to adapt Clive Barker’s Thief Of Always novel and in 2006 he drew the lead story in Scholastic’s Goosebumps graphic novel and then chipped in on an issue of DC/Vertigo’s Crossing Midnight. He kept up his commitment to IDW however, drawing the miniseries The Veil which showed the artist really stepping out and being noticed. IDW later published his European graphic novel The Suicide Forest, while Walta himself was working on new pages for Marvel. Pegged early on as a talent to watch with a story in 2010′s Breaking Into Comics The Marvel, Walta did a variety of X-Men related shorts in various anthologies like X Necrosha: The Gathering #1, Nation X #3 and Age Of X: Alpha #1, he got his first solo issue for the Big Two when drawing 2010′s X-Men: Curse of the Mutants – Smoke & Blood. Most recently, Walta did a segment of Magneto: Not A Hero series showing Magneto in a flashback, and was also drafted to do a one-off issue of DC/Vertigo’s The Unwritten.

Latest Comic Guest Announcement - Kev Hopgood Attending: Sat/Sun Artist – Iron Man; 2000 AD Three years after a brief flirtation with the then still extant underground comics scene (he wrote and illustrated a contribution to 1981’s Knockabout Comics #3) Hopgood resurfaced drawing mainstream comics. Like many of his peers he contributed to 2000 AD (for which he worked on and off until 1995) but also illustrated stories for Marvel UK where his art graced the pages of Spider-Man and Zoids as well as such titles as Mighty World of Marvel, Thundercats, Action Force and Doctor Who. He made his US debut in 1988 with issue #4 of G.I. Joe European Missions continuing to contribute to that Marvel title until the following year. Marvel US came calling again in 1992 at which time he became the regular penciller on Iron Man. He stayed on the title for just over two years during which time he co-created War Machine. Stories for the Warhammer Monthly anthology (published by Games Workshop’s Black Library imprint for which he also drew three Darkblade graphic novels) followed but by 2000 he was all-but out of comics. He resurfaced in 2008 to draw two Warhammer 40,000 minis for BOOM! Studios but has since returned to illustrating children's books and educational books.

Latest Comic Guest Announcement - Mike Collins Attending: Sat/Sun Artist – Doctor Who; Star Trek; Babylon 5; 2000 AD In the mid to late 1980s, Mike’s career started in the mid 80’s in the UK, writing and drawing strips for the UK division of Marvel Comics. His work included Spider-Man, Transformers, Doctor Who, and Zoids. He also worked on the celebrated UK weekly comic 2000 AD drawing Judge Dredd, Sláine and Rogue Trooper, as well as writing various Future Shocks. In the late 80’s he was then hired in the 'Second Wave' of British artists lured to the US. Through the 1990s, he worked primarily for DC Comics on their key titles such as Batman, Superman, Flash, Teen Titans, Wonder Woman and the Justice League. A brief spell at Marvel saw Mike working on Uncanny X-Men but he was shortly back to DC to write and draw Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt, a revival of a 1960s Charlton Comics character. Mike's primarily known for his work on TV and movie tie-in comics for both Marvel and DC he has written and drawn Star Trek comics. In the late 1990s, he drew a Babylon 5 mini-series, "In Valen's Name", written by series creator J. Michael Straczynski and Peter David. In 2001 he wrote and designed the first ever Welsh language graphic novel, Mabinogi, in association with Cartwyn Cymru, and is the first UK artist to produce a series of graphic novels for Norway with Gunnar Staalesen, featuring his celebrated private eye, Varg Veum. Currently he is working on Panini Comics Doctor Who Magazine, and Mike also wrote and drew a strip for the late, lamented Weekly World News, as well as co-creating the series American Gothic with Ian Edginton for 2000 AD. Outside of comics Mike paints covers to a monthly series of downloadable Star Trek novels - the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, and works as a storyboard artist for both animation and live-action TV and movies. For BBC Books he has drawn The Only Good Dalek, the first graphic novel from the publisher, written by long time Doctor Who author Justin Richards.

Latest Comic Guest Announcement - PJ Holden Attending: Sat/Sun IT TOOK almost five years for Holden to get his career off the ground. Although he began drawing for Fantagraphics in 1995 and for Caliber the following year, his small body of work for the US indie publishers came to an end in 1997. It wasn’t until 1999 that he resurfaced, this time contributing to Violent!, a UK small press comic published in homage to Action, the controversial British boys’ weekly of the mid-1970s – but things really took off for him the following year when he illustrated his first story for 2000 AD [in Prog 1233]. Although Holden drew stories for Black Library’s Warhammer Monthly between 2002 and 2003, since his 2000 AD debut he has been and remains a frequent contributor to the self-styled Galaxy’s Greatest Comic and to Judge Dredd Megazine, its companion title. He also maintains his links with the British small press, occasionally providing covers and the like to such titles as Violent!, Zarjaz and FutureQuake. He returned to the US market in 2007 to pencil Image’s four-issue Fearless. Although the bulk of Holden’s output remains on this side of the Atlantic, he did also illustrate Happy Valley (the first three issues of Dynamite’s 2010 Battlefields series) and a 2011 Dynamite four-parter, Terminator/Robocop: Kill Human. He is also drawing Renegade’s four-issue Monsterology, which he and writer Gordon Rennie are premiering at LFCC Winter 2013.

Latest Comic Guest Announcement - Arthur Suydam Arthur Suydam is an artist brought up by artists on the banks of the Hudson River. Early on, he was considered a child prodigy, was a working artist by the age of 18 and won numerous awards before the age of 20. His combining of classical painting with comic book art helped to create a movement in the 80's that made comics more accessible to a more mature audience. Although best known at present for his zombie interpretations of famous comic book covers from the past, his art career started with homages to Frank Frazetta in such books as TARZAN and DEATH DEALER. His charming adaptations of perennial favorites such as THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS and his own creation THE ADVENTURES OF CHOLLEY AND FLYTRAP have dropped off the radar of late. However, his covers for Dynamite's SAVAGE TALES, reminding one of the "Good Girl" art of the pulps, are currently trilling fans. Suydam is also an accomplished singer-songwriter. He worked with The Platters and as the tour director for Bill Haley and the Comets after Haley's death. He also served as music director and composer for the independent film, The Feud, where he had worked with the likes of Elton John, Billy Joel, Brucespringsteen and The Rolling Stones. The Gotham Playboys is the name of Suydam’s own band, which has recorded and toured with Bruce Springsteen.

Latest Comic Guest Announcement - Renee Witterstaetter Attending: Sat/Sun Writer, editor, color artist, agent, and publisher Renee Witterstaetter began the comics phase of her career working on such titles as Superman at DC Comics, and Silver Surfer, Conan The Barbarian, and Conan Saga at Marvel, then went on to spearhead the reintroduction of She-Hulk at Marvel as well. She then moved over to Topps Comics, where she was the editor on X-Files, Jurassic Park, Xena, and Hercules, and the co-creator—with Jackie Chan and artist Michael Golden—of the popular series Spartan X. During this time, Renee was also the color artist on hundreds of comics from the Avengers to Spider-Man to Captain America, among many, many more, while writing for The Impossible Man Summer Special, Marvel Age, the Silver Surfer Annuals, and numerous other titles. Film work was a natural progression for Renee after this storytelling immersion in comics, and she has worked on dozens of music videos for Madonna, Seal, Usher, and other recording artists, as well as working on such feature movies as Police Story III, Drunken Master II, Crime Story, Rush Hour 2, Red Dragon, To Ease the Loss, and Swimming With The Virgin, among others. She is the author of numerous books, boxing articles, and feature articles, including Dying for Action: The Life and Films of Jackie Chan, from Warner Books, and she contributed to The Fantastic Art from Vanguard Productions and The Art of the Barbarian—Conan, Tarzan and Death Dealer, Volumes One and Two, from Image. She also authored the top-selling Excess: The Art of Michael Golden, which has sold out and gone into a second printing, and the upcoming Tex: The Art of Mark Texeira--The Artist's Great Escape.

ABOUT HUW-J: Undoubtedly best known to the comic-reading public for his 2008 online resurrection of the Daily Mirror’s famed Garth strip, Huw-J is an artist, author, director and animator.

Starting out providing covers and pin-ups for Marvel reprints in his native Spain and subsequently for Marvel UK, Carlos Pacheco first major work was Dark Guard. A 1993 Marvel UK four-parter it brought him to the attention of US publishers with DC the first to hire him – to draw three 1994 issues of The Flash – although Marvel was not far behind. His first project for the House of Ideas was Bishop, a 1994’s four-parter that led to the two issues of X-Universe the following year. With various fill-in issues, covers and pin-ups along the way, he then teamed up with writer Warren Ellis for the four issues of Starjammers before moving on to X-Men for 11 issues drawn across 13 months. His tenure on Marvel’s top-selling mutant title consolidated his position as a fan favourite artist, an accolade underscored by his next project, the Kurt Busiek-written Avengers Forever. From that 1998 12-parter he moved to Fantastic Four for which, beginning in 2000, he drew 11 of the 20 issues he co-wrote. Pacheco then migrated to DC for JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice, a high-profile hardcover graphic novel authored by David S Goyer and Geoff Johns and released at the end of 2002. The Spanish artist then reunited with Busiek for Arrowsmith, a 2003 six-parter produced under the auspices of DC’s WildStorm imprint. Next came a five-issue run on Superman/Batman. That was in 2005, the same year he collaborated with Johns on the relaunch of Green Lantern while – in 2006 – he again teamed up with Busiek, this time for 10 issues of Superman across 15 months. Constantly in demand for one-offs, covers and pin-ups, in 2009 Pacheco was back at Marvel, where he launched Ultimate Avengers, drawing the first six issues and following them with the four of 2010’s Ultimate Thor.
