  1. Hayley Atwell Ok, 1 guest on 140... So why people panic !? And like it said before : Both event are on 4 days... maybe there guests who are coming one day at LFACC. Why is that so impossible ? It's (without being rude) quality vs quantity. It's the Hayley Atwells - the leads of current shows and films that most people are interested in, that get attention. As well as reunions. Most of those leads wouldn't normally be on the LFCC radar anyway. Doing both, well it's an 11 hour flight between the two plus airport time. But generally we get the US stars for 2-3 days, it's more cost effective.
  2. 3D is not that popular these days. Especially for the home market. If you look, many new TVs aren't including 3D as a feature because people weren't buying them. Also, re-releasing the Star Wars films into cinemas with a 3D conversion was also not popular which is why it was only done for Episode 1 and not the rest. It's only the Disney deal that scuppered that. They completed work on Episodes 2 & 3, but can only show them for free at Celebrations. Only 2 years away from the 40th.
  3. It was some Ewoks I'd not met before (regulars on the US circuit) that finally convinced me to fly out there again in April. I'd decided I'd probably not go before they were announced. I did it all last minute. It takes all sorts
  4. I'm surprised it wasn't week before that; we've had the LFCC on 10th of July before. The later date probably helps a full Friday though.
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong but there are two conventions that take place at Excel? Won't name them as per forum rules but I've been to both, not sure how that works. I assume its ComicCon style events that the others have an exclusive too. Official events, be it a big US film series, UK institution, Showmasters/Massive Events' Sherlocked or Star Trek are OK.
  6. I've certainly heard the same thing claimed at the last event, no idea if it's true though. Just takes one post from Jason to discount it.
  7. Was that Lasse? I've asked if he was in attendance as I never saw him, but haven't had an answer. Sure it was an uphill struggle to find new names as most had been coaxed out before. At the event for Empire's 30th. Or Star Wars 30th. or Stormtrooper reunion. Yes there were quite a few Star Wars names at the event... but there always are. There was nothing special about the event, in Star Wars terms. As I said I was never expecting more. But I can see why those not as well versed in the usual spin and hype might not see things the same way. I'm as much saying to them, realistically what were you expecting? as well as saying Showmasters should acknowledge they may not have met their own target. I don't think it was remotely intentional.
  8. I've said before SDCC looks forward, LFCC looks back. There's room for both. But I do find it a shame that just as LFCC is getting the greater worldwide recognition - websites reporting on the Weaver panel and BTTF, it's going to have to do well to be heard above everything that goes on at SDCC next year.
  9. A moderator said what else to add, another moderator had already answered. It doesn't actually tell us the organiser has even seen the complaint, much less acknowledge it. It's not for moderators to apologise for
  10. It means more people will be able to attend the Friday as it will be during the school holidays too. The other one could well sell out, three day tickets have gone.
  11. An organiser apology perhaps? I have to admit after the Transformers being a big thing the year before, and seeing what we got for the various other Star Wars anniversaries I never had that the high expectations this time, but reading what was posted I can see why others felt misled.
  12. Regular tickets were processed in the queues before the start on Saturday, I saw wristbands being handed out. Ticket pickup the day before makes sense, you have people inside setting up anyway. But its the vendors who take the longest to set up. An afternoon might be possible I suppose.
  13. They were encouraging people to use the lifts to take the pressure off the stair queues.
  14. There weren't many I'd not met before, but that's my own fault for going to Celebration and LFCC's 30th Empire signing. Was Lasse there in the end? Never found him on Friday.
  15. No one I'm interested in yet, but I might be able to go due to being in London for 2 other events that weekend anyway.
  16. See I only really do Star Wars and Doctor Who, but never did Star Trek and don't do 'the latest show' any more. They take up enough of my earnings. Star Wars it's generally one auto in the book, Who its on various merch. There used to be a lot of free signings at Who events which really started the habit I think it's quicker for one person to get 5 things signed than for five people to get 1, on the VT guests I would have spend as long obtaining one autograph for the 3 I got, but would only have spent a 3rd of the money if just getting one each. Well except I then would have tried to go around again, which takes even longer. Had I wanted Weaver on one Ghostbusters and one Alien I would have gone once on the Sat, once on the Sunday, had I the money to indulge in such autographs. High prices (which in most cases I understand) limit me more than anything else. You can collect signed merchandise. In the case of Doctor Who a few retailers had free (well RRP) subscriptions where every release came signed. I've then added others for free at the many events I've been to. So I've easily got 500 signed items, and I'm far from alone. If you look at some of the Star Wars guests - there were people who came from the other side of the world to meet Denis Lawson. I only needed one, but I fully understood that others might have three posters, three posters, three DVDs, one or two figures etc etc without being greedy. If you collected all them, how could you just choose one? Do you get him on the New Hope poster (which has 63 autos), or the Return of the Jedi poster (that has 40)? The former is the most complete, the later has the least. Considering some would pay £1000 just be there, you'd want to get your monies worth out of the trip and get the lot done. Each of those items would be unique, and valid collectables. Now if you just buy a undedicated signed photo (which many do and take great joy from) those aren't unique! If I had the chance for a few seconds with Harrison Ford at £XXX, but he'd only sign his own photo instead of my book, I would have to seriously consider not meeting him. It's not what I collect. Free and beggars can't be choosers! But if I'm paying a lot it would have to be on my terms. And its not as if there'd be a shortage of others ready to meet him on his terms, it would be selfish of me to get in their way. If he was ever a diamond (and its the thing that at the price if would have to be part of me hopes that temptation is never put in my way) I might have to get two photos I didn't want for the one auto I did. With others desperate for the photo. That's why I'm glad never started on Back to the Future. But to look at that example, had I started this year - a good place to start - I would only have been able to get one MJ Fox. Understandable in his case. But then I would have just got one item for the whole trilogy. One from Michael, one from Chris, Lea, James and the rest. So spending a third on the others than I may have done. if you collected posters, you could have the others on a BTTF1 item, BTTF2, BTTF3 without any difficulty. If he did another signing there'd still be the others to do. But that's just how I see it. On the other hand I don't do generally do photo shoots (had a few free for charity that some would have spent a lot of money on!) but I understand why people 'need' to do them. Annoyingly they impress my mother more than any auto!) I don't quite understand why people need multiple photos with the same people though. Some get them at every event. But there you go. There are people really annoyed they couldn't get a photo with Peter Capaldi at the official BBC event. Despite them already having a costumed selfie on set, despite them already having met him for charity - they are still annoyed they couldn't get that third, and were perfectly happy to jump in front of others getting their first. But then hypocritically I've three or fours things I really want signed by him, despite having four or five things signed by him (all but one before being the Doctor) already. I'll always have more.
  17. Was there a lot of hype? I wasn't expecting anything more than we got. It was just another Star Wars reunion, like the several previous.
  18. But why? What's the point of having the same sig on multiple things?? Different collections. I get Doctor Who DVDs, CDs, trading cards signed. There's some companions I must have over 100 individual autographs from, in 15 years of events. It used to be a lot cheaper. I would have had 8 for Catherine Tate last weekend (though at £30 a time I wouldn't have got all of them) but fortunately she'd already signed 7 of them elsewhere. Personally I get to the stage I think would I really bother queuing hours for just one auto. I'd not have gone just for her.
  19. The problem is though the diamond quality time eats into the regular signing time. The trick to get around having 5 seconds with a guest signing one auto - buy five autos. You get 5 times as long then.
  20. Off topic, but whatever happened to that Bluewater event?
  21. Better than queuing on the stairs. I feared a domino effect.
