I thought he was a really good Bond villain! That said, there has been more than one article where you get the impression he doesn't hold it up as one of his crowning achievements in his career.
I do wonder what it's like for these guests who are so well known for something like Bond (and it was indeed Bond items everyone around me was having signed when I was in the queue), and have to sign all that stuff, when they'd rather be remembered for their other work?
I got my Gustav Graves pic signed but at the photoshoot I mentioned that I enjoyed him in Jane Eyre and he seemed genuinely happy about that.

Was gutted when he cancelled last summer but was so glad I finally got to meet Toby yesterday.
I’d heard anecdotes he did not seem to enjoy himself when he did a LFCC back around when Die Another Day came out, but hey, he decided to come to this one?
I got the impression these shows aren’t really his kind of thing and didn’t look 100% at ease but I thought he was really good. Was pleasant and courteous to everyone at the signing table, took his time and did not give you a rushed feeling. He kindly added a long quote to my Bond picture. Did poses with people in the photoshoot.
Really great guest.

Have heard that Mayhew was in better spirits yesterday than is usual sometimes which was nice to hear.
Also he was refusing to sign in bulk for dealers (except for the send-in service for Showmasters). *In fact a dealer got thrown out for this for claiming he’d arranged a ‘private signing’ with Mayhew and tried to get to him without organisers’ permission.
Great to see Mayhew so determined to see fans only, and for Showmasters doing something about it.

Stopped to speak with John yesterday, very pleasant man and great artwork - will be arranging a commission with him shortly.

Grossly underestimated how busy George would be yesterday. Figured he’d be busy but I didn’t think I’d need a diamond pass. I did get my auto and photo ok though but he was stuck on diamond passes for autos until midday or so.
Can’t imagine how insane the crowds would have been to see him had he attended LFCC Summer.
Good for him though, he was a great Bond and OHMSS is a classic. I said to him I wished he’d done more Bond films (I’m sure he does too) and he looked a little sad, but I said On Her Majesty’s was great and so was he.
Very pleasant and professional guy both at the signing table and in the photoshoot and was there signing from 9am. Kindly gave dedications for everyone, from what I saw, added “Thank you” and “007”. He made the effort to interact also.
My friend got to him early with a DP and George happily inscribed his request of “This never happened to the other fella” to a photo of the pre-credits scene where he spoke the line and breaks the fourth wall.
They put a stop to quotes a couple of hours later because he was a slow (careful) signer but great that he did some, and my friend as THRILLED.
Sadly George donned some big Jack Nicholson style sunglasses by the time I got to him about 20mins into his photoshoot (he wasn’t wearing them at the start), but if that’s what was needed to avoid a migraine etc. then needs must.
Someone I’ve wanted to meet for a LONG time and VERY glad I finally did.

Met him yesterday - my first ever Doctor Who guest after years of going to these things.
Seemed a lovely unassuming man, he looked happy when I told him he was my favourite back in the day when I watch his episodes as a kid.

Epic guest.
Guest announcements like this take me back to conversations Showmasters started on here over 4 years ago asking if fans where indeed prepared to pay more for the bigger and rarer names that always get asked for, then Showmasters would start booking them.
Carlyle is clearly one of this new breed of guest we would never have seen booked in the 'old' days. Yes, price is on the higher side but what an actor! I am huge Bond fan and will not miss this chance to meet him.

Have been trying to meet Dance again since LFCC 2012!
He is a phenomenal actor, great in everything he is in, and I am always glad to see his convention prices have remained reasonable for fans over the years, despite joining franchises like Game of Thrones. Hoping he does not cancel on this show.

Have been wanting to meet Lazenby for years. Have not seen him at a UK convention in 10 years+ Great to see Showmasters could snag him. A really impressive announcement, and a nice surprise too compared to the usual - we don't get enough James Bond guests if you ask me.
He was a good Bond and OHMSS is one of the best of the series. I'm a huge Bond fan and will be meeting him for sure. I reckon his talk will be an interesting one, he seems quite candid in interviews.

I've heard a few people on here complain of Duchovny's demeanor at the show and wondered on what day those people met him.
I had a Diamond Pass and met him first at his Saturday AM photoshoot: he was all smiles, giving handshakes and enthusiastic greetings to everyone. In fact it stood out to me that rather than facing the photographer, as nearly all guests do, he was facing the line of the people coming to meet him: he gave a proper greeting with eye contact etc.
From the photos I have seen, he looked more chipper on the Saturday than Sunday. I managed to have a quick few words with him about something as well which never happens at photoshoots in my experience.
When I went for his autograph early afternoon, it was very much the conveyor belt experience but that felt more down to his management than him. He was still polite and amenable over colour of pens/personalisations for the multiple photos I had bought him to sign. He even had a laugh over what he thought my name was when reading it off the ticket wrong due to my poor handwriting.
Of the talk, people said he seemed annoyed but to be honest, I did't really get that. Yes there were some daft questions but that is par for the course. I think he is just quite dry and deadpan. He was often said to be 'underplaying it' as Mulder when the show was current. I think it's just a matter of him not being the Mr. Jazz-Hands convention pleaser some are used to. It would be great if every guest did a Capaldi for the fans but that's never going to be the case.
On balance I was happy with my interactions with him but had I only met him for an autograph I might have had a less rounded view of him over the day.

I mainly know him for Jurassic Park so wasn't desperate for his autograph, so for the first time in 10 years of convention going, opted for a photoshoot only because I couldn't miss this rare chance to meet him.
Saw him at 6:40 on Saturday evening, one of the last few to see him after he had blasted through the hundreds before. There were maybe 3 other people there and it was so relaxed compared to the usual conveyor belt experience with the huge guests. I wasn't expecting much given it was the end of a long day but hee was very polite with his greeting, a handshake and a how are you which I answered and reciprocated. When the photo was done I said that I enjoyed him in 'Sirens', he looked surprised, gave me a sincere "thank you," paused, and with a grin said I was the only person to say that to him all day. A brief but nice meet.

I met him only by the skin of my teeth on Saturday afternoon after queuing for the better part of an hour. I had VT 297 and he seemed to take forever to get through the numbers. Now that I've heard of dealers taking the p*** with him and other guests, it all makes a bit more sense.
When I was finally in front of him he had his phone in his hand, head down 'ignoring' me. I'm big on manners and for a second felt maybe this was a bit rude, but I took a moment to mentally step back, appreciate he doesn't need to be here, and maybe he just needed a break. Anyway, I stood waiting, then he blurted out "that Duchovny's a funny guy," then he starts angrily tapping the screen repeatedly "how do you get this damn thing to copy?!" and he put the phone down exasperated. I told him I was crap with phones too and he looked up, I stuck my hand out, said "Hi Dr. Weller" and he greeted me and asked how I was.
I brought him a Robocop pic to sign and I paid the extra fiver to have a quote from the film. As for those above griping over that, get a grip! He was more than happy to add a personalisation (which I also got) for free, but I think that guests writing film quotes goes far above and beyond what should be expected of them at these insanely busy events. If he wants a fiver in his back pocket to make my autograph epic, he can have it. I wish more guests offered this.
And something I didn't realise until today... I asked him to put: "Dead or alive you're coming with me" (which I had written down on a slip of paper when I passed him the photograph to sign). He actually wrote down "Dead or alive you are coming with me" - and I went away thinking he'd messed up the quote, but still grateful all the same. Anyway, just watching Robocop again and when he is Murphy, before getting shot up, he says "you're" and later in the film when he is Robocop the line was modified to "you are". Well Dr. Weller can have my apologies. I have been lucky to get some great quotes on my autographs over the years but most actors can't even remember their own dialogue. He had obviously not forgotten and it really impresses me he could remember that nuance over 30+ years later.
After he had done signing I said that I had heard he was into academia now (knowing that is his passion), told him I'd done an Arts degree also and he got very animated, thrust his arm out to shake my hand again and near enough shouted "good for you!" I thanked him and went on my way.
He seemed a somewhat brusque character at the signing desk. But he just seemed a no-nonsense, his-own-man kind of guy who wasn't all about the PR many of these shows bring the guests. The lady taking cash for the autos said they had told him earlier to stop charging the extra money for quotes but he happily carried on doing what he wanted anyway. I like him all the more if only for that!
TL,DR: I really enjoyed meeting the man. Not the chattiest, a bit of a tough nut to crack, but I thought I made the effort being patient/respectful with him, talking about something he was interested in/proud of and he was polite, gave me a good interaction and great autograph. Sometimes I think some attendees expect too much or simply don't put in enough effort to tailor their interactions beyond "Hi!" A conversation takes two afterall.

When I ordered my James Caan photoshoot weeks ago I was one of the people who did not have a batch number. How does that work? Is my ticket essentially Batch 1 so I can go to the AM shoot or without any batch number do I have to go to the PM shoot?

Peter Mayhew doesn't seem to have any photoshoots on the Saturday schedule. I haven't looked at Friday or Sunday....

A spectacular announcement!
I'm shocked we are only at 3 pages. Surely Duchovny has been one of the most requested guests ever on the forums?
Anyway, I am a huge X-Phile so this is one of the top announcements I could ever hope for and will be going Diamond Pass as I cannot risk not meeting him.
I was fortunate enough to meet Gillian Anderson at LFCC in 2012 and again at Collectormania MK 2013. It is a shame that with Anderson distancing herself from the X-Files now, she is probably done with the convention scene (I think she announced this recently?) and we will never have a dual Anderson & Duchovny photoshoot like those seen at some US conventions, but what can you do. A single photo with Duchovny will go just fine with my single one with Anderson.

venders were the usual load of overpriced tat, seems very little genuine memorabilia these days, it's 5 stalls of pokemon, 2 of sugary cakes and 12 of vinyl bobblehead-looking things.
room was pretty good, fairly spaced out and the temp was decent.
SM staff doing their usual idiotically persistant "move up move up" litany - do you all not have eyes? do you not see the people in the area already that might appreciate a little breathing space? do you not understand the concept of people maybe not liking strangers squashing up to them for no good reason - especially later in the day when they're likely sweaty and smelly? do you not grasp the fact that squashing up together makes it harder to get bags open at the time to get your items out? or risks an item getting bent or crumpled by someone bumping into you or catching you with their bag as they move, etc etc? do you think me moving 3" closer to the person in front is going to make things go faster? you're not enhancing anyone's convention experience or making things even remotely more efficient with your persistent whining, so either give it a rest or have the common sense to set up some snake-like barriers or something.
didn't quite get the in having us all snake up in the building then get let outside and back in through a different door, why not just make a gap at the end we could file through?
the guests i met were great, Danny and Christophe especially, and Kristanna was just sweet :-)
Man don't get me started on people invading my personal space. It might be more tolerable if people had a better grasp of personal hygiene, but many don't.

Just attempted to book a photo op with Toby Stephens to find they are sold out!
Went through the forum to find his Guest Announcement thread and someone mentioned back in March that he was on batch 3 of only 4(!)I'm shocked he had so few batches - which seems a VERY low amount for a rare guest.
Cumberbatch got through was it 28 batches in 1 day? I don't envision Toby being as busy at the signing table - surely there is ample time to squeeze a few more photos in, assuming he is up for it?
Is there any chance that more batches will be added to the Eventbrite store? I can't be the only person disappointed to have missed out...

Jamie Lee Curtis would be an epic guest, up there with Sigourney Weaver from 2015. She's done a convention in the US so you never know...

The original is a classic.
Halloween 2 has a schlocky charm to it.
Halloween 3 is a great B-movie.
4,5 and 6 I pretend don't exist in the canon.
H20 I really enjoyed as the conclusion to parts 1&2. Should have ended on this one.
Resurrection is horrendous and an insult to JLC's character.
Forget about Rob Zombie's remakes.
Then we have the one coming out this year that is meant to be a direct sequel to first film... a sort of do-over of the ideas behind H20.

All perfectly logical and sensical but I don't buy it... I have seen signatures deteriorate or 'evolve' over time but even a very fast signature can still have the semblance of (stylised) words, or at the very least some letters.
I should have said that some very 'basic' looking signatures appear lazy, rather than actually being lazy. Maybe I am old school in my thinking that a one's personal mark/signature should display a little more flair as opposed to looking like chicken scratch.

Personally most of the time I care more about the dedication than the signature itself (and also the experience of meeting the guest particularly, sayings a few words, taking a couple of pictures while they sign or even a selfie if it’s allowed). So I’m not really bothered by how signatures look generally, but maybe it matters for auto value and collection purposes so in the end you have to decide if it’s worth it for you
None of this is about 'value' whatsoever, they are not collected for resale. Purely about visual appeal/effort that appears to be put in by the signer.
I was never mad into 'extras' on autographs but prefer personalisastions these days and have got some amazing dedications/quotes over the years which certainly add to a piece. It is very good to see that Capaldi has put in lots of effort in this area for fans, even with his little "DR?" sign-off. At the insanely LFCC, I wouldn't expect too much in terms of lengthy detailed dedications though from any guest.
That said, I feel it lets the piece down when the way they have written my name looks better than their own signature. All the other effort draws more attention to a lazy signature IMO.
It is nice to have good memories of meeting a guest, and hopefully a few pleasant words exchanged, but memories fade, experiences can be less than perfect and the auto, is the tangible memento of the encounter, and I like them to look good.
