  1. Does anyone know why the talk was cancelled? On that note -- when will a schedule be posted that shows all the free/open talks? :) Thanks!
  2. Totally, utterly and absolutely agreed :) I loved his charming humor because it didn't seem boisterous but instead, self-depreciating like you said!
  3. Man, I wasn't dissing any crew members. I was just sayin' that the guy I asked didn't know. I wasn't making a big deal out of it, just mentioning it along the way. I figured that perhaps for the big headliner guests, the crew members should know, not moaning about the one who didn't know - it was more meant as a suggestion for how SM handles their poor crew volunteers who I bet are being swarmed with questions like that on a constant basis.
  4. Man, you guys are quick with the guest announcements! And a cool guest too Looking forward to it already!
  5. Oh yes, bring Nicole Kidman over and ask her to bring her husband. Her current one *chuckles* Make European country music fans happy *grins*
  6. I've only ever gotten 1 signature from a stage door signing, and that was Patrick Stewart's. That said, he was amazing - when it took a bit longer for him to come down due to the show wrapping party that night he sent his assistant with a whole plate of hors d'oeuvres for us and then, when he did come down, he took his time talking to the few fans that were there (and there really weren't many, just about 15 of us) and signed everything people shoved at him. He was very friendly and chatty. Despite that, I prefer signing events over stage door signings any day!
  7. He was such a lovely guest, and his talk was hilarious. I never would have guessed that he was dealing with having lost someone so close to him Poor guy. But he was a true professional, and like I said, absolutely wonderful!
  8. LOL When I got to the back of the hall first thing in the morning and asked a crew member (who was handing out VTs for .. either Kristanna Loken or Katee Sackhoff, can't remember now) where the VTs for William Shatner were being distributed, he didn't know, would have sent me in the completely wrong direction and I was only saved by a nice attendee who had just gotten a VT for Shatner and directed me in the right direction. As it was, I got VT #77 for the Saturday autograph session, so it wasn't bad, but I was surprised to see that anyone crewing wouldn't be able to answer such a question. At least they all were friendly :)
  9. There's reasons for that, but I can't get into those on the forum. It's nothing bad though. Oh, ok *chuckles* I was wondering if none of them read this forum or if they had hated it so much that they were given a gag order or something No, just kidding, I was just kinda .. wondering, idly, as I am wont to do Thank for sorta clearing it up for me a little :)
  10. Huh, mine was 74GBPs for 2 nights and the breakfast was great - also, the room was much more comfy and bigger even though it was a single (what you can't see from the pic was that there was a sink and a built-in closet as well within the room, still leaving comfortable floor-space). Doubles are roomier still. I know it ain't the Hilton, but it certainly did it for the 2 nights I was staying there. I'm kinda surprised none of the many crew I saw staying there have commented on the accommodations yet - I thought it was a darn good place at a very decent price in a great location.
  11. Thanks for giving us such a first-hand insight Glad he's well - got a chance to meet him and he is a lovely chap!
  12. I believe that the prints were mentioned in advance, so presumably you knew that you would be getting one. At that point I rather think it's your responsibility to arrange how you choose to transport it. I'm unsure why the organisers should go to the expense of buying several hundred cardboard tubes or whatever, especially as some people wouldn't need them (either because they're prepared and brought their own tubes, or because they're parked outside and can lay it flat on their car's parcel shelf, for example). I'm sorry if that sounds a tad harsh, but I rather think this is a "problem" for individuals to address, rather than the organisers. Yeah, it did say that, but it said nothing about the size these limited prints would have. Apparently, LucasCZ along with a whole lot of other people thought that it would be the regular print size that you also got at the autograph tables, 10x8, a size that is easier to accommodate in a suitcase or bag while traveling in an airplane. Please don't assume people are stupid and don't read - they very well might have but have had different expectations. Talking down on us makes you come across as helluv' condescending.
  13. I agree that he wasn't purposefully trying to be rude or not answer what people were asking or just pushing his own agenda - at his age (and apparently, plagued by tinnitus) and as someone more used to the Americanized English than the British one and with the sound system and people's voices being what they were, I don't find it surprising that he didn't fully understand everything that was being asked. And rather than make an ass out of himself by constantly asking for people to re- and re-repeat themselves, he did what people tend to do when they are embarrassed about not having fully understood - he took what he HAD understood and ran with it, hoping to hit the right answers in the process of talking at length about related stuff. All very human - and I, for one, found it endearing because .. well, it makes him so human too *chuckles*
  14. Dear Leslie, I got a chance to meet you and say hi and I've gotta say that you were a charming guest :) Also, I absolutely loved the talk you guys gave! Rock on!
  15. I had a similar issue getting the big sized print(s) back to Germany with me on the plane - what I did was roll them and then begged the girls at the organizer's desk for a rubber band or some sticky tape to hold them together. They went out of their way in a search for something that would help me and in the end, produced a rubber band for me - thanks, gals-whose-names-I-was-too-dumb-to-get-to-thank-properly-here
  16. Holy crap, that sounds gawd-awful! I paid that for 2 nights and even though mine wasn't calling itself a hotel, it was definitely better in leaps and bounds than the so-called hotel you are describing!
  17. When I click on it, it says 'Not available in your area' Boo, I say.
  18. I stayed at the Imperial College (Beit Hall). While this place is not a hotel (instead, dorm rooms used as accommodations), they make every effort to make it more hotel-like. There was a shampoo/shower gel, soap, towels, a bottle of water and tea/coffee bags (with sugar and milk) provided as well as a water heater, a ventilator and an alarm clock. The room was small but adequate (built-in closet, bed, desk, cupboard, sink) and while the toilets/showers were shared between 5 rooms, I never even MET any other occupant much less had to compete for shower stalls. As far as I'm aware, there are other rooms available that have their own shower or share only between 2 rooms (?) but I went for the cheapest option. As it is, 2 nights cost me 74 GBPs altogether, and that included a huge and varied buffet-style breakfast with scrambled eggs, breakfast sausages, hashbrowns, beans, tomatoes, fruit salad, cereal, toast etc. Breakfast is served between 7.30 and 10.30, but apparently, a whole lot of staff was staying there as well and for them, breakfast was opened early (around 6ish? Or 6.30?). The room I slept in was quiet though the rooms on the other side of the hallway were facing towards the Beit quadrangle where young folks (LOL I feel so old typing that!) gather at night and there is a little pub so those do get noisy. I walked from the 'hotel' to Earl's Court and it took me about 25 minutes walking through some very nice areas that were safe and pleasant to navigate. The closest tube station is Gloucester Rd. which is 1 stop (or was it 2?) from Earl's Court and there is also a bus line that leaves right outside the 'hotel' that would get you to Earl's Court (I simply decided to skimp on the transport). Arriving at London Heathrow, it took me about 40 minutes by tube to get to South Kensington (which is still close, as far as tubes go, but slightly further than Gloucester) and then another 10 minutes on foot to walk to the reception. There are grocery stores, restaurants and pubs within walking distance (less than 10 minutes) and, like I said earlier, it is in a very nice area (in very close vicinity to Albert Hall, basically next door to it). For couples traveling together it might be noted that even if you get a double for your room, there will always be 2 separate beds since they are, in fact, a dorm facility which doesn't make people sharing a room sleep in the same bed All in all, I was very happy, found the price phenomenal for London and would recommend it to any friend of mine going to London for a quick city trip. :)
  19. Hello I remember you (and how sad would it be if I didn't, considering it's only just a few days later ) - thanks for saying hi! During the weekend, I was so fascinated by everything that I totally forgot to get anyone's screen names *chuckles* As for the impromptu stewarding - I'm just that bossy I'm glad you liked my questions of William Shatner and yeah, he seemed to find them ok as well :) btw - wow .. the list of people you've met already is pretty darn amazing! *chuckles* There are quite a few I'd go starry-eyed over.
  20. Heya, looking for the British guy who sat next to me (on my right) during the Shatner talk. (seat number 186-ish or abouts there) Ours was one of the rows that had all messed up and double-assigned seat numbers and yours was one of the double-assigned ones. You were from somewhere 'not so far from' London (north something, if I recall correctly), and you thought I was from the US but I told you only my accent was whereas I was from Germany. On the other side of me sat a blonde girl and a guy who had come together and whose seats were 'claimed' at least by 3 different people in the course of the whole seating mess. I got to ask a question of Shatner during the course of the talk - and I asked him two things: if he was going to include Captain Spock in his Captains project as well and if he gets people being star-struck with him or if it still boggles his mind all these years later. If you recognize yourself, I'd love to get in touch with you - in case you don't know why (and might be scared of a crazy stalker-person now *chuckles*), I remember you getting some great shots of the master on stage and I'd love to nick the one or the other off of you. Pretty please and thank you. You'd make my day if you could email me under XLcatloveress@hotmail.com. Thanks a bunch!
  21. I only got autographs from William Shatner (who we knew wouldn't personalize) and then, Lee Townsend (who only wrote 'To Silke') and Greg Rucka. I'm still laughing when I look at Greg Rucka's signature in my copy of his novelization of No Man's Land - he wrote 'Silke - Rule the Night!!', then signed 'Best, Greg Rucka' and drew little dawdles all over the inside front cover including, but not limited to a thick underlining of where the places of the novel being published from are listed as New York/ London/ Toronto/ Sydney/ GOTHAM CITY LOL He also wrote next to the thickly underlined 'Gotham City' 'Bet you didn't see that before' and seemed to have fun scribbling stuff around the front page *grins* Fun guy! Loved him!
  22. I was really good about not buying too much - after all, I had 2 photoshoots, 1 autograph (William Shatner) and 2 paid talks (Shatner, Browder) already (add to that the flight from Munich and the hotel plus food and it adds up ) and was running on a very limited budget. I got the first Transformers movie, the Star Trek XI novelization, No Man's Land by Greg Rucka for him to sign, a personalized sketch by Lee Townsend and a couple of comics for cheap (4 for 1 GBP) :) Feel like I came away ok, as far as not breaking my budget and still getting some nice memories goes :)
  23. I would have loved to meet him for his role on House (not into Twilight at all) but am kinda glad I didn't stretch my budget for it 'cause it seems like he was not a pleasant guest to meet (as it is, I have only had wonderful experiences this weekend).
