  1. Well I was quite pleased that my theory about Snape having a thing for Lily turned out to be correct *G* I think you could say it was a bit of a cop-out not to kill a main character. Not killing anyone liked would really be too much... Who knows how she choose who got killed? Maybe in some cases she drew lots, or maybe there's a reason for all of them. I agree that killing one twin seems somehow more wrong than a lot of other deaths, but maybe that's the point. Nothing's sacred, even the bond between twins. Yes the last few books are more adult, but I think that's deliberate. I think each is written with someone the same age as Harry in mind. So the first is for 11 year olds and the last for 17's. That's a big difference in maturity. I think in a way it's good the books are ending. While it was satisfying for me to predict Snape's feelings for Lily and a few other minor bits and pieces I like my surprises even more. Carrying on would make things more and more predictable surely? I sort of like it that she's given us some bits that can't be predicted (like how many children) but left lots for us to make up / work out. One thing I've been thinking of... the question of whether they'd have gone back to Hogwarts to complete their education. If you think about it, it wouldn't be just the three of them. All the muggle borns missed a year. Plus loads where hiding out in the room of requirement. Plus surely that year's courses in muggle studies and defense against the dark arts would be invalid. So there would be loads of students needing to repeat a year if they were to get their exams. I'm sure Hermione would want to, Ron's mum would have a pretty good go at making him, so I guess Harry might well go with them. Maybe there'd just be summer classes for those that didn't miss too much... maybe Harry might be given special permission to go straight into auror training (I think that career path not quiditch: didn't exactly go mad over the loss of his broom did he?). Either way Harry would not be able to take on Ted. The ages of Harry's children in the epilogue also suggest he's busy for a few years (education, training) before him and Ginny start a familly of their own. Totally agree on the sword. Neville pulled it out of the hat, end of! Griphook will not be pleased *G* Did anyone have a slight moment on that scene though... when Voldemort set the hat on fire on Neville's head I thought for a minute he was going to brand him with Slytherin's mark or something, therefore making Neville the subject of the prophecy and the one to kill him? Played with my head a bit there!
  2. I checked out the queue party at Waterstones Piccadily (HHHHHUUUUUGGGGGEEEEEE!!!!!!!), then headed up to Borders Oxford St where I'd pre-ordered. Decided on there partly as I expected a smaller queue (I was right...) and partly as though it was £1 more they promised a goody bag. Goody bag disapointing as no HP stuff. Yet to read the book that was in it. Oh well... Only queued from 11 and got my book at 12.40ish so not bad.
  3. 7 ish hours? But with breaks including 5 hours sleeping (my 4th night with that amount of sleep, otherwise probably would have read straight through!) Enjoyed it: sort of suspected a fair bit of it, but enough twists, extra unexpected bits and slants on what I did expect to keep it interesting.
  4. Less than 24 hours to go! So I thought I’d post a little FAQ… Q: Can I guess? A: The competition is ‘predict my time’ rather than ‘guess my time’ for legal reasons. Basically if it was a guess, that would make it a lottery, which would mean some rules that would make it very difficult to run, such as only being able to run it in private or with the permission of local authorities… Basically, if you want to guess, rather than use the clues... Just don’t tell me! (And for those that do like clues, make sure you check out the latest news on my justgiving site… there will be no more!) Q: How do I know the money will go to the Stroke Association? A: I’m asking for cheques to be made out to them, and credit card payments will be made through a well know site which will pass the money direct to them, not me. If you get to the payment stage and you are not happy, just don’t pay. Q: The way you are doing the prizes and prizewinner(s) isn’t like most competitions… It’s a little complex, but it has advantages… by adding more prizewinner slots as more people enter, the theory is it will keep the odds good, and not risk giving away loads of prizes for hardly any entries. By giving a choice of prizes I avoid that horrible result where someone gets something that others think is really fabulous but personally they couldn’t care less about. And by doing a competition, rather than just selling the stuff, I maybe give someone who couldn’t afford to buy at a convention the chance to own something amazing (or buy for charity at another convention if they could afford it!). Complex, but I hope it makes things better. And I really am very close to adding another prizewinner slot… Q: Is it still worth entering? A: Yes! I know I said I might not be able to process a last minute rush, but that’s just an in case… really I think it’s unlikely there will be a problem, so get those entries in! Q: How do I enter? A: Go to www.moonrising.biz/basics.htm, or if you prefer, cheque out the latest news for clues at www.justgiving.com/stroke100, then follow the link from there. Thank You! And Good Luck…
  5. Only a couple of days to go, and I'm very close to having enough entries to add a second prizewinner slot. That will mean more chance of winning for everyone who's entered, so please enter now if you haven't already! Thank You and Good Luck!
  6. You can find out more in my post in general, or you could just go straight to www.moonrising.biz/basics.htm (Hint: win something great for raffle type cost, and help charity...)
  7. Hi all! Less than a week to go to the closing date… so please don’t leave your entries to the last minute, as if there’s a rush I may not have time to process them all before I leave to do the marathon! Where else could you get a Stargate script for £2 and help a great cause? Anyone got any questions? And please tell your friends!
  8. Pictures of the prizes are now up on the prize details page. Don't miss the one of Peter, it's a classic!
  9. I’m running a predict my time competition for the 26.2 mile Neolithic marathon, which I’ll be running in two weeks. I’ve been lucky enough to get hold of some fabulous prizes: the script is worth hundreds! (And there may be more coming…). Entries are only £2 each – the price of a raffle ticket! Proceeds to the Stroke Association, registered charity 211015. Stroke is the UK’s third largest killer, and kills more women each year than breast cancer. As many as 40% of strokes could be prevented with present knowledge, so please help this excellent cause! Details are at www.moonrising.biz/basics.htm or visit my justgiving page: www.justgiving.com/stroke100 Thank You and Good Luck!
  10. Coming to this a bit late! (And please... no spoilers about book 7! (Saying coz there seem to be some out now judging by the fact there's a thread?)) The potion: There has to be a way of doing it for one person, or how could Voldy do it? Maybe drinking alternate potion and water? (Dumbledore isn't infallible...). So maybe RAB was alone. Kreacher being there works for me too though. I think Dumbledore had ordered Snape to kill him. Otherwise Snape and Draco would both be killed: I don't think Dumbledore would allow that. I think it's possible Snape made the vow not knowing what he was promising: if you read through the scene where he made it he never said what the plan was. He may have been bluffing trying to find out. Does anyone think there may have been something between Snape and Lily? It struck me as being odd that Slughorn kept going on about how good Lily was at potions, when you'd expect Snape to be the potions genius in their year. Maybe Snape had a crush on her and helped her? (NB his worst memory involved Lily...) Voldy tried to avoid killing Lily, maybe because he knew Snape had feelings for her? Maybe Snape changed sides after he caused her death and that's the thing Dumbledore knew and trusted him because of?
  11. Trialia, should have some more eBay auctions up soon, which can be paid for by cheque.... Anyway... Hi All Just to let you know I did it! I completed all 26.2 miles of the London Marathon on 23rd April (yes, all on one day... Lol), got my medal and everything! And yes it hurt. But believe it or not, not as much as the few days after... stiff just doesn't cover it... I've taken a while to announce it as I was sorting out prizes with the competition winners... results are now up on my justgiving page, and I've left the comp page up so you can look at the remaining prizes, which will be auctioned soon. Still got loads of signed candid pics etc. Info on why I did it, stuff available, comp result, to sponsor me (yes you still can....): http://www.justgiving.com/moonrise Thanks everyone who supported me! You are all stars! Rowan Green
  12. Nearly time for online entires to close... 6pm BST tonight! I'm adding a teddy and a signed postcard of Jr Bourne to the prizes, but don't know if it will be before the close! They are on the list though. I have to go shopping now. Yesterday I went out to Excel to register and pick up my number for the Marathon. Don't know if I'm scared or exited or what! I'm definitely tired though: haven't been able to sleep properly for a week. And I keep getting odd twinges which I really hope are just nerves...
  13. OK, online entries are not going so well as offline, and I want SF fans to have a chance at those SF related prizes so... I'm doing some 'packages': Half Marathon Package: Pay £13 and get 15 goes Full Marathon Package: Pay £26, get 30 goes and I will open another prizewinner slot! Don't miss out folks... this package is only on offer until 6pm BST on Thursday 20th April... www.justgiving.com/moonrise For information and a link to the competition.
  14. Yes, the competition to predict my time in the London Marathon is up! Prizes include some really cool signed pics (different to the ones in my recent auctions) and the more people enter the more chances to win will be added! Please go to www.justgiving.com/moonrise for information on my fundraising for the Stroke Association and a link to the competition! It's only open for a couple of days, so don't be slow!
  15. Last Chance… We are now into the last 12 hours of my charity auction, including some great, unique signed candid photos, being sold for the Stroke Association. See http://www.justgiving.com/moonrise for information and a link to the auctions. (And to find out about the competition, starting tonight!) I thought it was time for a bidding tip (especially as several of the items have loads of watchers, meaning we could be seeing some last minute snipes) Top tip: Use automatic (or proxy) bidding! There’s nothing worse as a seller than at the end of an auction than having someone coming to you and saying they got outbid at the last minute/didn’t get their bid in, but they’d be willing to pay more than the person who won. eBay rules (and fairness) mean I can’t take up such offers. And in this case there are definitely not other copies of the same thing available… Proxy bidding is an AUTOMATIC feature on eBay: you don’t have to do anything special to use it. All you need to do is decide how much you are willing to spend on an item, and bid that amount. eBay will then bid up to that limit on your behalf. But they’ll keep the maximum amount secret (including from the seller), and it will not be used unless needed. For example, if someone else has bid £5, and you are willing to bid up to £55, then put in a bid of £55! Ebay will then bid £5.50 on your behalf. When someone else comes along and bids £10, eBay automatically increases your bid to £10.50, so beating them. Even if there’s a last-minute snipe bidder, you can’t be outbid unless someone is willing to pay more than you! Proxy bidding also explains the discouraging way some bidders seem to outbid you as soon as you put a bid in. It doesn’t mean they are watching every second of the day. It just means they’ve put in a maximum that’s above your bid. Don’t be discouraged and give up before you’ve reached your maximum: they can only beat you if they are willing to pay more than you. The next bid you put in might be the one that beats them. By getting your bid in you are also making sure you are on the bidders list. That way you don’t have to worry about a computer crash before your last-second bid! And even if you lose, should the top bidder withdraw you might find yourself getting a second-chance offer (high bidders do sometimes have second thoughts…). So get your bids in, bid what you are prepared to pay, even if it’s much more than what’s shown now, or less than you think will win, and don’t lose out for a silly reason! Remember it’s for charity! Thanks, Rowan Green
  16. Yes, there are James Bond items in the charity auction too... *G* One from me and one from my fellow seller. Info at my fundraising web page: http://www.justgiving.com/moonrise Thanks!
  17. My current charity auction does include a Buffy item.... http://www.justgiving.com/moonrise for more information...
  18. Popping in to tell you about my charity auction for the Stroke Association. It includes some signed candid pictures which I am sure folks here will love... Joe Flanigan and Rainbow Sun Francks among others. You can find out about it at my fundraising page: http://www.justgiving.com/moonrise Thanks everyone!
  19. God will be at Collectormania. If you believe in God that is...
  20. Maybe the work commitments thing is just an excuse and he's actually having a sex change
  21. I think you need to re-read my post, and I'm not really interesting in going round in circles on this. But just to clarify, yes, we still have two stories which don't totally match up: from the OTHER organiser, not Showmasters, and from the agent. If you look for attacks on Showmasters in everything I write you are going to find them. But you are missing my point: that's it's good for fans to stand up for themselves and question what they are told, whoever it comes from. Anyway, hopefully fans are now thinking for themselves (or happily ignoring all nastiness if that's their preference). So everyone can make their own decisions. Doubts have been aired and some extra information at least obtained. So I'll say again: to those who go and see Adam, I hope you have fun
  22. And here's me thinking I hadn't actually accused Showmasters of anything. *G* I know some people would rather this 'discussion' hadn't happened. And maybe in this case there wasn't anything underhand. But personally I'm glad it happened. People had doubts, which have been addressed rather than festering. I'm also well aware that some stars and their 'people' read boards like this. And I don't think it's a bad thing if they hear that changing an event IS an inconvenience, and that fans do get upset about it. That it does waste fans' money. And that some fans will question excuses given if the pieces don't quite add up. There are stars/agents out there who are just in it for the money, who will change event for a better deal and not think twice about what that costs the fans. I have no problem if a change of event/cancellation is for a good reason and/or unavoidable, but if this sends out the message that fans will not stand for any old drivel then that's a good thing. Well we still have two slightly different stories from the other organiser, and the agent. But the agent's story is believable. Maybe this is as far as us fans will get in finding out the truth, in which case it's up to each individual to decide which side they believe. So, to those who go to meet Adam, have fun! Not sure if I am yet... may not have the money anyway.
  23. If they are for Die Hard fans does that mean Bruce Willis is coming?
  24. It amazes me how fans are willing to pay more, more and more for (often) less and less. Apparently years ago it used to be normal for guests to come to cons and sign for free. Now prices seem to be going up all over the place. Seems to me anyone willing to pay £250 to avoid queing for virtual tickets and get front seats in the talks is nuts. They are not even really going to be able to queue jump (read it: it says it's to join the BACK of any queues). But I'm sure there's some who will. And that's their choice. Someone compared this to a weekend con ticket: I just spent a great weekend with 8 guests, got all their autos for free on a picture provided for free by the organiser, got front row seats (as a steward) for 11 talks, 3 parties, a meet and greet, got to see short films by one guest and a dj spot by another: all for a £65 ticket. That was low, but I don't think there's been any cons in the UK (or at least not any that had happy punters *G*) at more than £200. People are saying the gold pass makes people superior. Personally I feel superior not buying it.
  25. Dom: OK, we're cool! It came out like you were saying he was 'off' because he was gay. Sorry I misinterpreted, but I guess it's good to clear it up. And yes, one of the reasons he doesn't like pictures of him signing is because he's had people use such pictures to 'authenticate' fakes. But he also just thinks it's nicer if people come and say hello rather than acting like paparrazi.
