Thank you both for your answers! I've not been to an event in a few years so thought it better to check than assume (especially as the ticketed free talks I referred to were also first come first served seating wise, hence asking for clarification).

So happy to see Paul Darrow's doing a talk! In the past when I've been to LFCC there have been tickets to collect to get entry into the free talks, is that the same here or is this not a large enough event to need that?

I thought it was a great idea, and it was run exactly like silent auctions I've been to in the past so the format works. Sadly for me the only thing that caught my eye got too expensive for me. I think this is better than the non-silent auction which can get a bit hectic and hands not seen etc. I hope to see it like this again in the future!

I didn't encounter a bad crew member the whole weekend. I made a point of going to the info desk when I left on Sunday to thank the crew there and let them know I'd had a great time and that everyone had been helpful, and to thank them for their time - I figured far more people would go there to complain about something, and I wanted to pass on thanks for my good experiences. I thought the blonde woman managing the queue in photo area A on Sunday was very good (I didn't catch her name) - I arrived for an Eve Myles photo and the area was running behind, but she kept everyone informed as to what was happening, kept the queue area organised, and continually had a smile and was in a good mood. It could have been so easy in that situation to be grumpy or let the area fall into chaos, but she did a fantastic job at keeping it orderly and the wait happy, not tedious - which of course meant even though things were running late and I was worried about getting to my next shoot, I didn't get disgruntled, and the people around me all seemed in good spirits too even though we had to wait longer than we thought we would. So definitely a massive congrats to her for being so positive and good at what she was doing!

Sean Bean!

I'll be coming as Merrill from Dragon Age 2 as I've been working on it since November, and Eve Myles attending has given me the boost to get it finished!

FANTASTIC! I've met her before and she's so, so lovely. I was planning to wear my Merrill cosplay to LFCC anyway, this has just made that so much better!

I've wanted to watch it since it started - hell, it's got Sean Bean in it which is reason enough - but it's on Sky Atlantic and I have Virgin. So no Game of Thrones for me until it's shown on a channel that isn't exclusive to Sky.

Did anyone on here go to that shoot? By the time I got there on Sunday it was sold out, so I didn't manage to get one (was very unorganised with my pre-ordering this time), but I'd love to see what they looked like!

When I arrived there weren't many people arriving, and I wasn't sure where I had to go and had to ask to be told to go up the escalator. Then I couldn't work out how to leave... That's how I ended up leaving on Sunday - took me forever to find a way out, and it took me out a random side exit - very odd! I'm just glad I was going home rather than wanting to go back in.

awhh, gutted as I missed her at CM and LFCC earlier this year. Hopefully she'll come back again soon.

That's exactly what I meant, but you explained it so much better than I could have! I didn't realise he'd been signed up for the Hobbit, but yes, as you said, if it was, say, 5 or so years ago at the height of his fame, I would understand the high price - but he's a lot less high profile now, and I would have thought he would have been more around the £40 or £50 mark as it's a few years since he'd done his big, high profile LOTR and POTC parts. I've also met actors from non-current things... I didn't mean people wouldn't want to meet him becuase he wasn't 'current', simply that I couldn't understand the high price.

The only one out of all of those I'd be more than happy to pay for is Sean Bean. But I had to choose options in the other two to vote for him. Although I've already got his autograph from stage door, so wouldn't want another autograph - I want a photoshoot! So take my vote to mean I wouldn't pay that for an autograph, but I'd happily ppay it for a photoshoot. Sean Bean ...I'd also be happy to pay a lot for Ewan McGregor too as I'd love to have a photo with him. also, doean't £65 for Orlando Bloom seem a bit steep? I haven't seen him in anything for years, as far as I'm concerned he's dissappeared really.

OP - from what you've said in your further elaboration it sounds like the guest may be more comfortable with male fans than female - it could simply come down to that, or maybe they were out of their comfort zone in the shoot or not feeling too good so used humour to cover it up, albeit at what sounds like your expense. Or they may have just not known how to reply, especially if they're not often asked for hugs or haven't done many cons - and panicked. Also, being so close to the front might have meant they weren't into the swing of the shoot yet. Did you see any golds get hugs? If not, your question could have thrown him. Try not to take it personally, as it most likely wasn't meant that way. And congrats for getting up the courage to ask in the first place, even though it didn't turn out how you would have liked, maybe you'll be luckier another time. EDIT: my mum isn't good at asking for hugs as she gets very nervous around people she likes, so whenever we both have a shoot I go first - because I'm perfectly happy to ask for hugs, and she can see whether I get one or not - if I do, she simply comes along after me and asks for 'the same as her' - which has worked well for her so far as what the guest does with me sets a precedent.

I agree bands should be somewhere else, far away from the talks, preferably in a seperate room so the noise doesn't spread everywhere and overwhelm everything. When I saw there were going to be bands my first thought was 'uh-oh' due to the noise factor. I liked the old system of paid talks having specific seats and a seating plan up beforehand - that imo worked really well. It took me ages, and asking several crew members, what was happening with seating in her talk as I couldn't find any seating plans. What was happening could have been communicated better too, as I ended up finding a crew member to help me who wasn't actually working on the talks to go into a talk to ask the woman in charge there what was happening, as other people I asked who were working in the talk area didn't have a clue about seating for Karen. Although calling the numbers was probably quicker, there was quite a crowd to fight through to get to the seating area once numbers were called and I think the previous way of doing it, with the set seats, was more effective and fairer to those who have bought their tickets, as they get the seat they've been allocated. I love that it's seated according to ticket number, as it meant I didn't have to queue for a couple of hours or so to get a good seat - it's just like with concerts or the theatre, the sooner you buy your ticket the better seat you get. And it's still done in those places for a reason - it works and is fair.
