The Champions were basking in the glory of their successes of the previous tasks. The third and final task promised to be the most dangerous of them all, the most challenging. The handsome young Hufflepuff spent all his extra time in the library reading up on advanced hexes and counter curses. As time went by, he spent more and more time, enclosed in a corner he had reserved specially for practice. His piercing grey eyes focusing hard on the aged pages of the book, trying to master any spell he laid his eyes on. People occasionally scurried in and out of the library to catch a glimpse of the Hufflepuff Seeker, these people were usually a gaggle of giggling girls who blushed every time he looked up at them. The task had finally arrived; this tournament would be over in a matter of hours and a victorious champion would be announced and presented with the Triwizard Cup. In the pit of his stomach, Cedric felt lucky, he wanted to win, this was his last chance to leave a memorable mark on his years at Hogwarts. Cedric paced the boy’s dorm and waited anxiously for the Triwizards to be escorted to the final task. He changed into his striking yellow and black top and prepared himself. He sat waiting with great apprehension about what was awaiting him. A frail and low voice belonging to Dumbledore called Cedric’s name from the bottom of the dormitory stairs, it was time. Cedric took in a few deep breaths and rose from his sitting position and began his descent to the common room. There he was greeted by Dumbledore and the second Hogwarts champion, Harry Potter. He greeted them both with a nod of his head and followed them down to the task in silence. As they approached the stands where the anxious students were all seated, Cedric could hear what sounded like a band, playing a ceremonial march to celebrate the end of the tasks. As the music got louder, Cedric’s breathing got heavier, his chest rising at an alarming rate, he wasn’t ready for this. As he was about to make his way to the centre of the stands with the other champions he felt a warm hand on his arm. It was Cho. Without saying a word, she grabbed his hand and placed a small silver locket in his palm. He smiled at her weakly and kissed her cheek and made his way to the beginning of the third task. “Good luck sweetheart†she murmured as he disappeared from sight.
