1. Although mistakes can and do happen there should not be as many as there was and as customers we should not have to get on to the front desk every 1/2 hour with problems and faults. The fact that Autographica was being held there and that perhaps they could not handle that many people is not an excuse as they call themselves a 'hotel & conference centre'. We shall find alternate accomodation for the next Autographica. (Autographica 10/10 , Hotel -1/10)
2. That's great that you can get LFCC tickets on line now. It was a bit of a pain to find the extra cash on the day when you need that for the autos.
3. I was a afraid to go anywhere near that fridge! 890073 The firdeges were pressure sensetive, so the chances are that the cleaners who get bored re arrange the firdge and you go to take something and get charged alot more for it. I do agree though, it was highly priced and you didnt really get aot for your money.. A 890080 I'm reminded of that Indiana Jones Film where he has to swap a bag of sand for an artifact on a pressure sensitive plinth!
4. Yes some great suggestions and I would also like to meet the astronauts of the spacecraft I have already seen. For instance we are very lucky in this country to have the Apollo 10 spacecraft on display in the Science Museum which I have seen couple of times so I would love to meet any of the astronauts who flew in it. Can I also make a suggestion for other Apollo astronauts who did not walk on the moon i.e. Apollo 7,8,9,10 and/or *command module pilots who would have flown of all mission but not set foot on the moon. *P.S. richard Gordon (Gemini XI and CMP Apollo XII) was a pleasure to meet at the last Autographica.
5. If £90 may seem a little steep if your not a space fan then it should be seen as more of an investment if you are not into space Collectables. That is why he was charging £300 extra if Neil Armstrong had already signed it and £400 extra if Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins had already both signed it. As soon as he put his pen to that photo its value would already have gone above the pruchase price. I, personally was all to glad to pay for not just Mr Aldrin's auto but all of the astronauts and cosmonauts and I regularly spend several hundred dollars at KSC while of holiday in Florida because that is my hobby. What it boils down to is if you aren't prepared to pay for it you don't have to buy it!
6. That happened to me too! Think it should be 3* or 3 1/2* at most I wonder how they work out these ratings!
7. I wondered what that extra charge was for I thought it was for a slice of lemon! But seriously why should we pay them extra for tips on top of the bill when I could not do the same in my job so why should they especially as they probably earn a lot more than me! TIPS should not be included in the bill even if they are optional as they are not a right they are only given if the customer deems it is due. The moral of the story is next time I book into a hotel or restaurant I'll check that very small print that says 'service charge included'. The hotel had hidden charges everywhere and I would rather have paid a slightly higher price for the room to have everything included than to be treated like this! Phew! That's got that off my chest!
8. Yes I totally agree as well. Arrived early on Saturday and had already arranged with hotel to be able to check-in early and they said on the 'phone this would not be a problem as the room was already prebooked however when we got there they said the room would not be ready 'til 11am. This was impractical for us as we had cases and clothes to take to our room so we had to put up with a smoking room instead of non-smoking. The room was rather shabby. The curtains were yellow (not surprising as it was a smokers room but it does hurt to wash them every now and then!). The tap in the bathroom leaked. There was also a stain on the bedclothes and cobwebs in the grill in the ceiling! It was also hard to make staff understand requests and they weren't very helpful! The price of drinks at the reception was also high so only bought 2 of them! Perhaps someone could confirm that the hotel seemed to have double booked as there was a wedding reception on at the same time. I totally enjoyed Autographica and can't complain about that however I would never stay or eat or drink in that hotel again. I will be returning to Autographica however and can't wait for the next one.
9. I can't comment on the location as this was my first Autographica but I thought that it was great even though I didn't much care for the hotel accomodation but that is down to the hotel and not Autographica. As for charges for photos you would have to pay for them whether they were 'free' (which just means they come with the price of the auto) or seperately priced. And believe me I went to "that other event" on the way home from autographica and it wasn't a patch on Autographica. I won't say any more than this as I do not feel it is the place to commend/demeen another show not connected with SM here. Overall Thank you Autographica as a first timer to this event I'm hooked!
10. I've just thought of a couple more. Since we had Valery Kubasov of Apollo-Soyuz at the last Autographica how about : Tom Stafford and Vance Brand also of the ASTP.
11. That's great. Thanks for letting us know.
12. Changing the subject I loved the atmosphere at Autographica none of the long queues and pushing and shoving that you get at other events. I heard there was some trouble with the VT's in the morning but did not experience this. I would definitely go again!
13. I think I noticed in another thread that Autographica will have a Photo CD of the event which was taken by a professional photographer going round over the weekend and wondered if it this is true and if so when and how much will it cost as I had a photo taken with Dave Prowse.
14. Hopefully they will get Al Bean back next year.
15. Were Autographica selling the photos or the guests? I think that may be the question.
16. Just a note to say had a great time at the weekend. Met Buzz Aldrin, Scott Carpenter, richard Gordon, Charlie Duke, Jack Lousma and the Cosmonauts. Gold Pass was a real advantage in getting virtual tickets for Mr Aldrin. Can't wait for the next event. Well Done!
17. They kept that quiet didn't they! 889078 They did post it on the website: Car Parking. There are around 700 spaces at the rear of the hotel. From the front entrance, keep immediately left and take the side road to the rear of the hotel. Parking is at the special rate of £5 per day or free for Diamond pass holders. 889083 Have to remember that for the next one!
18. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe some of the guests bring their own photos which I think was the case with the astronauts who would purchase the photos or the right to reproduce them from NASA or the copyright holder.
19. Wally Schirra, Bob Crippen, Gene Cernan, Gene Cranz
20. Just to clarify parking was £10 per 24 HOURS and I have 2 x £10 receipts to prove it and breakfast was not included in with my room as the hotel was going to chrge me for it and I opted for the coffee instead which came to about £5, again I have the receipt to prove it! Once again though no complaints about Autographica, it was excellent. P.S. I didn't book the room through Autographica so perhaps the breakfast was a special deal in with that price, even so irrespective of that the hotel service and room was rather shabby for a 5* (staff having trouble understanding requests, leaky taps, stained bed clothes, yellowed curtains, cobwebs in grills).
21. No - nothing to do with luggage (of which I know nothing). There were running gags all weekend about leaving people to lie with those hideous fishes. One area I would agree with other people's comments was a disappointment was the state of repair of the hotel. The poor lighting in the atrium, & the poor control of the air conditioning were both put down by hotel staff as being maintenance problems. 5* facilities (and prices) with 3-4* maintenance seemed to be the problem. 888621 Totally agree with this, I have no complaint about the event which I enjoyed very much but for a 5* hotel it could have been much better. We arrived early on Saturday with a pre-booked room and had been told by the hotel that we could book in anytime as we were pre-booked but when we went to check-in the room was not ready and we had to have a smoking room instead of non-smoking. Fancy fixtures and fittings in a hotel are all very nice but let the place down if they are not cleaned or maintained regularly. In general the hotel was shabby and not worthy a of 5* rating. 888838 That's not great news to hear, as I'm going to an event there in about 3 weeks time 888840 I would go there again for the event but would not stay in the hotel again. P.S. Food costs are extremely high (£15 for breakfast per person!) but next door there is a McDonalds and about 1/2 mile east along the Bath Road is the White Hart Pub where you can get 2 steak meals with trimmings for less than £10! Also if you are driving, the car park is £10 per 24 hours (not to bad but can get expensive if you are staying more than one night.
