I met Wes Chatham on the Sunday and talked about the renewal of The Expanse. He's a really nice guy who likes science fiction and steered me in the direction of a prequel novella based on his character of Amos in the tv series. He also said he would very much like to bring the rest of the cast over here for LFCC next year. Did anyone else meet him?

    Yes, really lovely guy!

I didn't have a crush on him beforehand but I do now! :P

I am already delighted I took the entire week off work. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for people going back first thing on Monday

I learned that years ago, bouncing straight into work from a convention just isn't doable, of course it depends on if your employers let you book time off! :P

I work nights now so it's not too bad. Back to work Friday for me this week!

  3. I got an Aliens one sheet signed by Bill Hope, Lance Henriksen and Barbara Coles, all 3 commented on how they had not seen that design yet over the weekend. My husband got his special edition DVD of Near Dark signed by Lance too which came out really beautifully so he was pleased with that. I also got a small Expanse poster signed by Wes Chatham signed (SM PLEASE get him back, he was so nice!) but I really wanted a Roci blueprint or a blu ray signed, sadly neither were available (I think the series is due a physical release soon though) and I found a really cool Punisher 10x8 at one of the dealer stalls which I got Amber Rose Revah to sign (who was also really nice!) i decided a while ago that I wouldn't get 10x8s anymore as I have far too many but I couldn't resist that one!

of course I got my DP Jason Momoa print signed too! :P

  4. I have a question if it's ok to ask? I saw a really beautiful assistance dog over the weekend and I'm curious to know what breed it was? I want to say husky as I have one at home (a 12 year old boy husky) but the face was quite pointy compared to my boy. Obviously I know never to disturb a dog when it's working so I didn't go over to ask. I work in an animal home so my attention is always drawn to dogs. I hope it is ok to ask on here! :)

Yup once again I saw greedy resellers ruin peoples days by slowing down lines with their countless items. Pig sick of it. Fans turned away because by the time they are done with 100 items the actual fans dont even get one!

I have been told many times by many actors/musicians lare and small etc... they detest, hate, ruin or refuse dealers/sellers of any sort. If you are not a fan basically- go away, if you are out to make cash from them- go away.

The hate by many bigger stars towards reselling signatures is staggering for good reason.

This happens in DVD shops as well, I worked in one of the big HMVs in London for a few years (now sadly closed) and we always knew when there was a small signing in the area because dealers would descend on the store, buy stacks and stacks of dvds, cds etc from one actor/artist, plus ask for what we have out the back and then demand to be served immediately as "I'm in a hurry" and of course because they were spending loads management would bend over backwards for them. One notable instance was one of the Ghostbusters was doing a small event in Soho (that nobody knew about, we usually get a heads up on these things) and as a consequence of greedy dealers, genuine people were coming in for one DVD to take along and left dissapointed because we didn't have anything.

Obviously it's not all dealers, but I guess if a lot of money is involved then morals and consideration for others goes out of the window!

Jewel Staite being lovely - when I wheeled into the photo shoot I commented that I didn't want to run over her feet (she was wearing sandals) and she cheerily said "oh don't worry" :) She was also lovely at her autograph table, so I managed to say how pleased I was she had liked Edinburgh (my hometown). Customising her signed message depending on what picture you picked was a nice touch - I chose her from SG Atlantis, so got "lots of love from the Pegasus Galaxy" :D

Meeting David Duchovny. I've been re-watching the X-Files so it was awesome to see him in person! When I saw him at the photo shoot and the autograph bit he asked how I was and said to have a great day. His talk was funny, although boy does he mumble! Haha.

Seeing Jason Mamoa - even if it was rather fast going through his photo shoot!

Being a little frustrated on Saturday morning to be told at the extra help desk I still needed to go across the hall to get my diamond pass. I wouldn't have been annoyed if we hadn't been told before the event that diamond passes could be collected with the extra help passes...

Getting incorrect info about Jewel Staite's autograph queue. We went to get a VQ ticket while Jewel was elsewhere, but the blue shirt (American lady) at her table insisted we didn't need one and to "just come back later". So we did that, only to discover the VQ tickets were at 400 and we were meant to have one! I was a little upset and pretty worried we wouldn't get an autograph, but thankfully another blue shirt managed to fit us in a bit later on. She seemed a little exasperated that the first blue shirt had been telling people they didn't need a VQ ticket!

Exits. I would really appreciate if the exit could be marked on the floorplan. Also why were most of the doors blocked off? I understand restricting entrances, but when we were trying to get to the main road outside the Olympia I really would have appreciated that door being unlocked. There were lots of security staff hovering around, but even after asking if there was a way to get out that didn't involve having to wheel back across the entire venue (I was pretty exhausted!) they just shrugged and glared at us. Not very helpful. At least one additional exit away from Olympia West would have been useful.

The behaviour of some attendees. The majority of people were great as usual, but there's always a few who harass crew and stand in really awkward places. (Hint: if I'm sitting in my wheelchair near the entrance/exit of a photo shoot, don't stand right in front of me and block the doorway). Also I came across some incredibly rude people when I was trying to ask a blue shirt for advice outside Jason Mamoa's photo shoot on Saturday afternoon. I was literally sitting right in front of the blue shirt waiting to speak when people cut in front of me, spoke over me and treated me as if I was totally invisible! After 5 people acting like this I eventually had to literally sit and wave my arm at the blue shirt's face so she'd talk to me - and someone still tried to barge in! Seriously, some manners would be nice.

I'm sorry that happened to you, I saw a couple of times in various queues that people were pushing in front of people in wheelchairs or on crutches, especially up in the main autograph pit where Sam Neill and the doctors were. I've been doing Cons for years now and it seems like a small minority of attendees have absolutely no consideration for other people & it has gotten worse as the years go on. My mum is in a wheelchair and if that had happened to her I would have been absolutely livid.

I hope those people are suitably ashamed of themselves!

Only real low was the amount of Funko Pop stalls, I reckon 50% of the stalls were selling them. I get that they are popular and i get that if someone has paid for a spot then they can sell whatever they want but it would be nice to have more variety in the stalls.

    Yeah they were everywhere!

  8. Highs-

we had weekend passes and managed to get everyone on our lists bar one, which was great!

The photo pits I was in were well organised for the most part, especially Amber Rose & Wes on the Sunday.

There was a nice selection of dealers and they were not all rammed in together like previous years which made browsing easier during quiet times.

Entrance to the event was smooth and the crew guys were polite and cheerful throughout!

The water and fans were a very welcome addition to the venue too!

the photo shoot on Sunday morning for Jason was in a really awkward place, it was far too cramped, noisy and the poor crew member could not make herself heard at all! I definitely think you could benefit from having megaphones or signs at the pits stating batch numbers called etc.

The people running the doors at the event (and by which I mean Olympia staff, not SM crew) were largely rude and unhelpful. On the Saturday a bin had caught fire in the smoking area and I went to tell the guy on the door and he turned his head away from me, completely ignored me and really did not want to deal with it. Another attendee ended up putting it out with water from her bottle.

This is quite bad, I'm actually a fire Marshall at my place of work and know how serious bin fires can be, especially in built up areas.

Another concern was the VQ system in really busy autograph queues. The system works, but when it's really busy it's impossible  to get close to the sign to even see the vq number. We tried several times to get to Sam Neill over the weekend and it just didn't happen!

Largely it was a good event, the Sunday was really chilled providing you didn't need to get into the autograph area, which was mental!

  9. I didn't meet him, but in my Jason Momoa shoot on Sunday morning, just before I was going to step forward a load of really massive guys came into the shoot and Jason broke away to go over to them, say hi etc and I wasn't sure what was going on until I realised one of them was Steven Segal. He stepped forward and the photographer took some photos of him & Jason and then they left. So that was kind of unexpected and cool! :)

I'd be interested to know what number he ended on too, I got to him a little after doors opened and got a number in the late 300's and he was on 1-50 at about half past one when I checked (I guess I'm just wondering whether I was right to give up!)

We had a high 200 vq number but had to leave early at around half 1-2. We'll try again today but I'm not expecting to be able to get him. At one point we was in the cafe and the queue for him was snaking past and as far as I could tell, that wa just the queue for people waiting for VQs!

This seems to happen a surprising amount at Showmasters shows on first days and to be fair often gets resolved on the second day. It is clear that despite the blue shirts getting their instructions from the organisers, too many of them just don’t know how to work the system properly. The one I saw working well was I think David Bradley but I may be wrong. It was near him anyway. I wasn’t in it but I witnessed it. The blue shirt did it right by standing right at the end of the queue wherever that was. Anyone asking to join was either told they could or to come back later. Easy. Too many other queues had the blue shirts stand religiously next to the VQ notice boards. If the queues got longer than that it meant they were out with hearing range which meant people were joining the queue regardless of diamond, vq or anything. It also meant the area filled up to much making it impossible to read a lot of the VQ boards which were very small and in some cases now halfway down the queue. However every queue I did join had extremely helpful blue shirts. Just stand at the end of the queue and stop letting people join.

I think a lot of it comes down to experience and that's fair enough

This is starting to really make me anxious :/  Due to health (mental and physical) issues I can only attend on the Sunday - yes, Ive applied for the Access pass - I literally cannot stand in a huge queue for hours, and I would be likely to suffer severe anxiety at doing so........As it stands I am fearing my batch no.18 for a photo with Mr Momoa, will not be reached in time, I have NO chance it seems of getting a VQ ticket for an auto with him either :( Plus, I am unsure if I will need a VQ for an Aidan Turner auto, if I have a DP?

This si beginning to stress me so much I am on the point of cancelling .  I am agoraphobic as well as the other issues so this is a really big deal for me, but to be able to meet the 2 people I have followed for years, is worth it......

His agents and people were great, super fast and his queue was the quickest I was in today!

Did have one minor issue with Lance Henrikson’s queue.

The blue shirt handing out the tickets took my ticket and the blue shirt asked for my ticket. I told her what happened and she said I was supposed to give my VQ ticket.

I had a problem with Lance Henriksens queue too. Had a ticket in the 160s, and was waiting for a few hours on a nearby table (my husband has had a recent knee injury and it was too late to sort out an extra help pass so I was watching queues for him too). The crew manning the line said he was only taking up to 150, everyone else should go away. I asked if it was worth sticking around or trying again over the weekend and was told to try again over the weekend. I then spent around 20 minutes checking other queues and when I passed by his queue on the way back, I saw it was now 1-300. I tried to get on the end and was told they were cutting the queue at that point as it was too long and they wanted it to go down a bit before anybody else joined the end. There were lots of people waiting around but nobody actually joining the end of the queue.

We had to leave around 5pm so I didn't hang around.

I'm not sure why they changed it to 300 if that was the case? I will try again over the weekend but I'm not holding my breath on that one!

  14. I had the same problem, he was listed as being at all 3 days but I couldn't find him at all. I asked at an info desk and was told to ask at his desk to see where he was (I couldn't find it!). I ended up finding out from a friend who wasn't even at the event via Wes' twitter account that he was never meant to be scheduled for Friday in the first place!
