  1. its just harry potter without the specs, his assistant will be about 5 years old i guess.
  2. I thought that asking people where they heard about the show would have been an idea. that way they would see which advertising had the biggest impact. sm said they spent 10'000 on ads and lost 10'000 at the show, could have been a good way to prioritise ads for the next show and change those numbers a bit.
  3. yep, rest in peace forry. i wonder if he left me some of his stuff in his will?
  4. ha, thats me, the first time ive seen myself in someones pics, sorry my hat seemed to be in the way of your camera in a few pics lol. and wow, thems some hairdos youve had , you look much better with 'normal' hair.
  5. so we want lots and lots of flyers, lots of signage with arrows pointing to things, seats at the hot dog stand, mannequins from top man, and davidb to stay at home again and we're all set to go. woohoo! roll on august. oh and move the whole show 60 miles east, thanx.
  6. Fair point gahab13 But did you notice the 'ginormous' amount of people that was there?? No think I shall pass, but thank you anyway and accepted as a fair point. Although you have actually brought up a rather interesting side point....what exactly was the point of selling food inside the venue hall then? makes no sense if we go with your reasoning? Im not being faecetious, just interested. Ann x maybe its part of the deal with the arena that they have to sell their hotdogs or whatever? or maybe the hotdog stand was banned from the main foodcourt for bad behaviour, idk. either way i blame davidb....for everything.
  7. i really just look for quirky or rare items from dealers. stuff like the pics stalls seem pointless to me, i can download pics for nothing and get them printed for dirt cheap if i so wish. also things i can pop into town and buy arent gonna get my cash at a show. and anniekins, didnt you notice the ginormous foodcourt? theres limited floorspace in the arena without adding an unnecessary cafe in there lol. at the end of the day i go for the guests, that is what glasgow needs to improve on. i wouldnt ever go to a show if there wasnt guests i wanted to meet. more guests.
  8. Weirdly I said the same to my friend on the way home from Glasgow - CM is the only event I've ever travelled to Glasgow for other than a Foos concert, whereas I go to Edin all the time for things, even though Edinburgh and Glasgow are about equidistant from me. Dunno what it is, Edinburgh always just seems so much more convenient and easy. Also I never hear about things happening in Glasgow, but hear about loads in Edinburgh. I'd personally happily travel to either regardless, so it's not actually an issue for me. Just wonder if the same is true of everyone. See I'm really glad the event is in Glasgow. From personal experience Glasgow has better venues for such events and better transportation to/from the city. But having said that I would still go to the event in Edinbugh! I'm really glad SM is putting an event on in Scotland! So it's not that big of an issue....i just think glasgow is easier (and cheaper) to get to. :) the fringe festival is in august, i just think there is massive potential to attract every type of guest imaginable, lots of them will already be there. there is no place in the uk more culturally active than edinburgh in august. plus the huge influx of visitors and tourists at that time. dont want get lynched next time i'm in glasgow, but sorry, edinburgh is just a far more pleasant city for people to visit and its cheap and quick and easy to get get to any potential venue from the train or bus station. and i know a lot of people who would got to a show in edinburgh. braehead might be the busiest shopping centre but the cm hall didnt exactly represent that fact on saturday. i think the coffee stand had more visitors than cm did.
  9. move it to edinburgh! advertise the event more. more guests that will attract potential attendees. more scottish guests. more film guests. a balance of quality and quantity of guests. guests that will attract regular attendees. people didnt seem to be willing to travel north to meet guests they met a few weeks ago or had already met a zillion times. if the show is going to grow then its up to sm to make the first move. glasgow needs a big name guest, a headliner. its 8 months till the next show, plenty of time to get someone and advertise it properly. a 3 day event with 1 guest on friday, 11 on sat, and the same 11+1 on sun. just completely bizarre business decision making. yes i understand glasgow is a new show but sm have done other shows. i'd like sm to take a more proactive approach to what dealers they bring in. whole aisles of people selling pictures of celebs is just space i think that could be better used. i bought 1 magazine and 1 buffy figure, the least ive ever bought at a show. i wonder if some dealers understand that what guests are actually attending the show relates in some part to what people will be interested in buying? I had some money burning a hole in my pocket (for once) and just mostly saw the same junk left over from past shows. it would be interesting to see what dealers made money and what they were selling. horror movie guests!!!! yeah, i said it. are there no horror fans work for sm? jeez. thank goodness that some hammer girls also did sci-fi shows. most of all, in trying to attract a fresh audience i think they need to try and negate the stigma that this is a sci-fi show for trekkies and the like. if that seems like a strange thing to say then you havent thought about it or are just blissfully ignorant. i thought it was a good show on saturday, maybe if it was in the summer more people would have turned up?
  10. just home, had a good day, met john leeson, nice chap, jacqueline pearce, what a lovely woman and was patient when my camera decided to majorly malfunction on me, got her to sign a postcard from 'the reptile' and a hammer horror magazine. caroline munro was equally pleasant and cleared up the story regarding her dog and noel gallagher. and the enchanting juliet landau who made my year by recognising me from myspace! so amazing to finally meet her and chat even though i was probably a bumbling fool in her presence ALL the guests were great and i especially enjoyed the talks, jeremy bullochs was a bit strange though, lol. 3D guy from manchester was matched by 'random question guy' , funny stuff. And a special Hi to yesindeed , was nice to meet you, top bloke he is u know. only about 9 months till the next glasgow show, cant wait, guess i'll have to though. thanx to all the super nice and helpful crew it wasnt all that busy, but thats not my problem, i had a good day and thought it was a good lineup personally.
  11. Dirk was on the news tonight giving an interview from the show, thats got to be good publicity. anyone go today? any info for people going sat/sun? any cancellations or anything?
  12. well i'm not going to judge you , i hope they at least paid your taxi home.
  13. helloooooo, McShow. Any chance of the info for Caroline Munro being put up? I'd like to know which day I'll be going, kinda helps when organising things.
  14. up to episode 10 now, i'm getting quite into it. john noble is a must, he has the best character on telly just now.
  15. that thing actually has it as sunny for sat, keep my fingers crossed. its still snowy here though.
  16. any chance of putting up the days for caroline? 2 days to go and i'd like to maybe organise things, like which day i'm going. thanx.
  17. then why didnt you just say that in the first place? pretty much every post you make all you do is take one sentence from someone elses post, use it out of context and try to come across as some intellectual god by making a smartass remark. having a difference of opinion is fine, but you just seem to make a point of being a smartass, hey, that might get you respect from people on here, but might get a different response in real life. since you seem to have immunity from the mods i guess i'll leave it there. thankfully i just noticed i can press a button and ignore all of your posts, sweet. bye.
  18. well when I said 'cash machine' I meant the rock under which I hide my shiny things. and when i said 'geeks like us' i meant 'geeks like us, not like the ones that work(ed) at woolies' my point is that in the pyramid of capitalism obviously there are more people at the bottom and these are the people who will suffer in such times as these, thats not being smug, its called reality. if you wish to close your eyes and spend your life propping up this system then you have no reason to whinge when it falls and crushes you. yes buisnesses are closing and people losing their jobs and it will be lean xmas for little timmy, the poor people who have been working to support their ever growing families might wish they invested in some contraception instead of an xbox. did you notice that you said "non-food retailers" such as woolies and mfi are the ones closing down? pubs have been closing down steadily since the smoking ban too. so what does all this mean? well, theres only so much crap people can buy before even the dumbest realise that they dont need any more crap or they simply dont have any more money to buy more crapola because they worked in a now defunct establishment. people will still eat and now maybe they will appreciate going for a simple walk in the park instead of fretting over their lack of funds for the latest ringtone. oh and I'm unemployed at the moment but I didnt run out and buy the latest i-pod or blueberry so that i could show it off down the pub. nobodies ever called me smug before, so congrats on that one, so if my smugness offended you then i cant really apologise because i wasnt being smug. but seriously, who cares if you think i'm talking crap?, it might not even be my real opinion, maybe its fun watching the same fish jump at the bait. 99% of 'certain' peoples posts are just trying to gain brownie points by bashing others. fact. I'm quite aware of whats going on in the world, and you might want to be aware that not everyone cares for your condescending tuppence, as much as not anyone cares of my opinion.
  19. cool, thanks. i'm guessing she will have the purpley starcrash pic, thats the one i want. i notice she signs in blue pen mostly, ewww not having that, it looks awful. margot kidder signed a nice b&w pic from supes with blue pen, looks rank.
  20. wow, i didnt think mcoys cancellation would start a debate on the foibles of capitalism. i still shop in woolies often as they have cheap dvds and stuff, so it will be sad to see it go, like it was john menzies. this show has been hit worse by the pantomime season more than the current economic climate. most us geeks live outside the realms of high street capitalism and if i want to buy a new buffy figure then i dont need to check the F.T. to see if I can afford it, I just go to the cash machine. we'll find out next december at glasgow if the 'great depression' has cast its shadow over the country, untill then i'll by jumping for joy at all the bargains i've been finding recently. credit crunch schmedit crunch. more to the point of topic, mccoy knew he was doing panto at least as early as september and it doesnt even start till the 10th Dec.
  21. caroline munro, days, times, photos, talk?
  22. well i guess things have changed a bit. now its jacqueline, caroline, juliet and james. i might even get katy if i have enough dosh left. i wonder if she has those nudies with her humping a dalek?
  23. For a small event with 11 guests its a decently varied lineup of guests. consider that midlands had almost 40 guests and what happened there I think we will find glasgow to be a success once again. having been to london/mk/manchester/coventry i just want question whether glasgow will ever grow to the size of these other events. i'd be very happy to go to 3 or 4 glasgow shows a year and save a lot of money. does sm actually plan to let the glasgow show grow? personally there has always been guests worth travelling to glasgow for, but for regulars of other shows they probably look at glasgow guests and think 'oh, i met them like 3 times already' and thats why they wont come. I'd like to see a spring/summer event at glasgow next year, any chances? on the sylvester and warwick cancellations, i know its not sm's fault but i said this about dwight (who waited 8 months and then cancelled to do another convention) but i dont think warwick should be invited back to glasgow. yes i know i'm probably alone in that, but hes cancelled twice in a row and i feel its a waste of everyones time when sm could be announcing guests who actually want to be there. the fact that were losing guests to pantomime says something. even craig is doing panto, in fact i'm surprised he will be there as he is doing panto that weekend, sunday must be his day off. anyways, just my opinion. its pretty simple for me, if theres guests i want to meet and i have the money then i'll go, if theres no guests i want to meet then i wont go. roll on saturday!
  24. a lot of people seem to be saying that they wont be travelling to glasgow so its up to us 'locals' to prove glasgow deserves more attention from sm. theres 4 guests i hope to meet, so thats good enough for me. its much cheaper for me to get to than any other show which means i can spend more at the show. my whole budget for my trip will be less than the travel costs alone for other shows so i'll continue to support it as long as they can continue to get at least 1 must meet guest for me. this time its juliet landau and i'm well excited, she even left me a comment on my myspace page, so i have to go now.
