  1. So I won't be buying tickets considering no guests are announced yet and who knows who might go or cancel ... will just leave it and decide nearer the time :-)
  2. Thanks :-) can anyone officially confirm this for me too ?
  3. Hi, I am thinking of attending on Sunday only ... just been catching up with your forum and only just read about how ticket sales have changed - I saw it say about 4 weeks out you will announce if on the door sales will be available on Sunday - I have a three hour journey to London so don't want to do that and find I can't get in , so will I be able to get in if I just turn up and buy ticket on the day ? thanks :-)
  4. I know I spent £20 on a G1 Soundwave - happy happy happy :-) Other than that ... loadsamoney ! ah well :-)
  5. All this talk of exclusive guests .. but what criteria is even used to make one guest more exclusive than another .. I mean in some cases it's generically obvious e.g. actor at height of fame or Hollywood legend , but I don't agree with the approach overall as the stardom of a person is in the eye of the beholder e.g. sports guests to me = yawn , but to a sports fan they would deem them more A list than say an actor from Star Trek ... It's not prices of tickets or gold packages which will solve the majority of the issues faced at LFCC ( that will just increase profits ) , what will solve most issues is better planning and organisation ...
  6. What about the company ( on the right as you walk in ) selling Japanese stuff including various flavoured Kit Kats from Japan ?
  7. I took 550 pics over the weekend lol currently uploading all to my FB .. I even managed to get a pic of the adventuretime cosplay marriage proposal which was so sweet :-)
  8. To be fair you & anyone who works for SM or Volunteers for them is allowed an opinion obviously the same as everyone ... but that opinion would be by default bias in the defence of SM because you wouldn't want to ruin your relationship or lose your position as a mod or twitter controller so will always see the positive side more so I have posted good and bad points about this event so obviously sit on the fence about it's success as got everything I wanted from it but at the same time can see where improvements are to be made but if I was employed by SM I can well imagine my posts would sway more in favour than sit on the fence
  9. I think you are under the misaprehension that we are there in another capacity, we are there to do a job. It doesn't matter if we are a fan of the person we are GA (guest assist) or not, I have had a lovely time with Sports guests and the fact that I am more empathetic with people who feel excited about meeting their hero/heroine or favourite actor/actress/sportsperson/celebrity is the thing that connects us as fans. I may not be in the same fandom but I relate to how attendee's feel and aim to make it as easy and pleasant as possible. Just because crew are made up of mainly volunteers doesn't mean we are not professional or take our role very seriously. I have to say it is not easy, you can't just swan off to the loo whenever you want, most times you don't get to meet the celebs as you are working elsewhere, often I leave autos at their desk before it opens with money to be able to get my autos, we don't always get them back signed and in one case one is still missing. That is reality, it doesn't give you unlimited access, in fact you have to damp down excitement and focus on what you are doing when the celebrity that you most admire is walking past you. Very hard to do but necessary if you ever want to crew again. We get assigned different roles to make us better crew, the more rounded you are as a crew member the better you perform. Don't any of your friends crew for Showmasters? Can't say I am surprised as you used the phrase that you were a "paying customer" so of course you would see it as them and us. For the record I paid entrance on Saturday too, but my experience was probably better because I see a blue shirt and automatically treat them like a friend now, at one point I went up and fanned one to cool down as she looked like she needed it, I also picked up some rubbish from the floor and put it in the bin. The crew are not inhuman clones serving Jason or automatons and we are not walking encyclopeadia either so don't treat us that way. I got into crewing after several of my friends suggested it as they crewed, I finally jumped in when i was made redundant and it was the only way to get an auto that I wanted for my daughter. I have since got a job and am still crewing. I had a terrible first day as I felt really rough with a cold and my voice gave out at one point but came back because I felt like I made a difference. I hope that this post gives people a clearer idea of what it is about, it's not about hob nobbing with celebrities, its seriously hard work on Sunday night having to carry chairs and pile them on pallets ready to remove at the end. You ache all over, you're exhausted to the point of tears, you still got to pick up all the rubbish and yet you are still smiling cause someone just cracked an awful joke. That's what being Showmaster crew is all about, we don't get to go until everything is cleared and the hall is empty. I hope this helps you understand what being crew entails. We were just trying to entice you to try it just once rather than criticize without understanding what crewing is about. It would be nice if more people crewed as you could go to conventions and enjoy it but working at them is very rewarding. (I'm not talking money or autograph value) Hi I will keep this as short as poss - I cannot talk for all crew as according to the official SM reply about the event there approx 380 " For this years event we did expect bigger crowds so we took on more crew, we went from 250 trained crew to 350 and for the first time ever we also took on volunteers that helped with things like holding doors open and running, etc, so the total was around 380 " I am very confused about the trained crew vs volunteers as you indicate most are volunteers but anyway .. of those crew I did interact with a couple were lovely & helpful , my main issue about the 'encyclopaedia' of knowledge is that the Main Organisers Booth should be ... that's it's role surely ? as I have mentioned already I asked them a question about the raffle prizes etc and not one of them knew the answer - I just don't comprehend how that is possible I think it's great people like you volunteer , I think most likely the majority are lovely , but looking at those figures in the official reply why didn't a single person I approached at all the main / official desks & ticket office know the answer since so many were trained staff ? This is not a personal attack on you or any crew I just think it's for SM to ensure the official areas are staffed by people who have all the answers otherwise what's the point and yes it is a you & us situation as this is not a family run get together it's a business operating a service with paying customers - whether you are a volunteer or a paid member of SM staff you represent the event / the company / the brand and I am the customer .. it's just that simple I absolutely love comic cons etc and if it wasn't for companies like SM we would not get the chance to browse all the geeky stuff for sale or meet celebs , my posts in this thread are really just about how I was bemused how little information was known by the approx 12 people I asked ( not one knew the answer ) Sorry to go on but I wanted to try answer best I could
  10. So how can we get hold of these now ? I would have .... but they were not available Friday morning at the early preview signing SM ?
  11. " are you saying .. ? " " what about your .. ? " " why .. ? " There appear to be questions here that I can see - it's a very valid post with informed and concise statements too , it makes for very good reading actually and it's a forum so it's where questions & opinions can be put ... I like it and it all makes sense to me ... So thanks Greencat :-)
  12. He was great ! My friend who met him too loved how charming he was to her ( even gave her a massive hug )
  13. Here are my good & bad experiences from my Friday - Sunday time at the event GOOD : 1 - Stan Lee extra autograph session Friday daytime, without this I fear I would have not got to meet him and get my treasured comics signed so it was so nice of him to do this extra slot 2 - Stan Lee, what a legend and such a funny man as I was lucky enough to attend his talk on the Sunday and really enjoyed listening to his stories 3 - Comic Artists, some really cool artists there and me and my friends got quite a few things drawn 4 - Retro Gaming, was brilliant to see all the old arcade machines and games consoles and play them for free 5 - Food, only on the Sunday managed to get food at the venue but the panini I had was delicious 6 - Guests, I only met a handful I guests but all we're lovely and some even allowed me to have a selfie with them 7 - Stalls, there were loads of companies there selling a huge array of cool stuff and this year saw a lot of new stalls and managed to buy a few new little bits 8 - Crew, don't know her name but a crew member in blue on the door Sunday was incredibly helpful 9 - Free Talks, went to the Star Trek and Dr Who free talks and loved them 10 - Cosplayers, again some amazing people and costumes and enjoyed the shows they did and also greatful to them all for stopping and letting us take pics of them 11 - Displays, the batmobiles and Transformers were so cool and was nice to see the old style bumblebee and barricade BAD : 1 - Overselling of tickets, it became clear before and during my time there too many tickets had been sold in advance already so perhaps no on the door sales were appropriate ? I had read the capacity for the venue was around 10,000 people so how many tickets were actually sold ? and I assume staff on the door had counters to know how many people were inside the building at any one time.. hence why at some point Saturday no further entry was being allowed for the pay on day people 2 - EC1 doors locked, I am not the only person who noticed but most of the main doors were padlocked and this was a crowd control thing I imagine because to begin with most doors were open but to stop people getting in and out wherever I assume they locked them so we could only get into the one door on the far right as before then they had men in suits stopping people when those doors were used before the padlocks added 3 - Overcrowding, on Saturday EC2 was incredibly full and at around 12.30 one of our group went out to get fresh air but about 1pm text us saying she wasn't allowed back in as it was a one out one in situation 4 - AC, until Sunday this was not on so the venue was very hot .. I can only imagine this was a cost saving exercise but it really needed to be on Saturday 5 - VQ Tickets, on Saturday one of our group got number 880 for a guest and had picked up that ticket around 10.30am so even then it was obvious she wouldn't get her autograph - I think selling autographs in advance would be better but a very low number ! so they all deffo get seen .. after that operate a VQ or just open queue at the later part of the day? 6 - Sound System, the super stage sound was pretty dire and it was quite hard to hear what was being said at times 7 - Queue System, it was just chaos on Saturday so I was glad I had a ticket already but for the Stan Lee talk there was nobody helping with crowd control or where to queue and so 2000 people were just making up their own line and it was crazy 8 - Raffle & Programme, enough had been said on this already but it really was a farce ! On Friday and Saturday I asked several crew members in blue and red shirts including the Ticket Sales Office where two blue shirts didn't know and directed me to a red shirt ( possibly Kev if I remember his name correctly ) and none of them knew, also nobody at the Organisers Booth knew, nobody in EC1 at the main stall where they were selling the programmes knew.. it was only by luck late on Saturday we saw the bits of paper on the Auction Table and so kept returning to check if we had won.. but about 4.15pm on Sunday while I was in the Stan Lee talk someone else in my group outside saw these programmes being away for free, we only bought these for the chance of the promised prizes but do feel very swindled in how it was handled I can't think of much more at the mo but hope these good and bad points are taken on board :-) Overall I got what I wanted from the event but it wasn't without it's hiccups and I certainly won't buy a programme again lol I am an autograph hunter ( mainly Star Trek ) so am looking forward to DST3 and already have my hotel booked for it Thanks
