That's entirely down to personal preference - just because you aren't interested in the Beano or Doctor Who doesn't mean other people won't be. Guests attending events is all down to work commitments and a variety of other factors, so it isn't entirely Showmasters' fault if no "decent guests" as you put it are announced. Besides, you have three months to go until the event, so plenty more announcements will be made, I'm sure.

Guest Suggestions 2016
jakers77777 replied to jakers77777's topic in Film and Comic Con Glasgow 2015
Bit of a long shot, but what about the musical comedian Tim Minchin? I know SM generally don't book comedians, but he'd be great to meet if he was available. -
It's a fair point. I completely understand that Glasgow will likely never reach the dizzy heights of the guest lists London gets on an annual basis, but surely we should be on par with Bournemouth? Especially if we've been running approximately ten times longer! I didn't actually realise Bournemouth was so new. Please don't respond with the 'Bournemouth attracts a larger audience' argument, because we know the turnout for Glasgow is huge and would only grow if we were given a bigger arena. I think we're entitled to as large a show as Bournemouth, it's only fair really. Let's hope for a brilliant FCCG in 2016 - that's SM's chance to show Scotland some love and prove that they aren't just palming us off.
-
Sorry, I don't have the foggiest idea and David won't be able to give you an answer either. We're not involved in such decisions at all. Ah ok, thanks for the response anyway.
-
Just a quick question - could QS or David B possibly comment on the likelihood of a move from Braehead? If it's just not happening I would appreciate it if we could know.
-
Wow, I've been off for two days... what happened here? I stand by my point that a bigger venue is probably needed, but I don't think this will happen any time soon (Exclusivity etc.), so the alternative of a second show in Scotland (doesn't even have to be Glasgow) would be a fantastic option, in my opinion. Obviously disabled fans could still be included this way as well. What about a FCCG in January or February? Sounds good to me, it could even be in the Braehead arena.
-
Mands has a good point there. It would be unfair to completely alienate all the disable fans of these events. If SM are considering a move, they will have to (or should) take this into account. I'll certainly be one of the ones raising that point if the issue comes up. That being said, a move is necessary at this point, in my opinion. It was hard to move at times this year, and I can't see myself going to any more events where it's even more crowded - I had a great weekend, but it was uncomfortable at times with the volume of people in a relatively small arena. Plus, bigger venue means bigger guests, which is always good.

Hope everyone had a great time

I do sympathise with mands here. I hope if they move it will work out for you. EDIT: Sympathise -
Wow what kind of SJA Prop? Could you take a picture (sorry SJA was and still is my favorite TV show, it's what got me into Doctor Who!) Linked it in another thread

That's amazing to hear! I'm really glad everyone has had a great time! Wow! I'm really gutted i missed it now, was there any BTTF related items? Also what's the SJA prop? Any chance you could take a picture and upload it? Thank you as well, i'm really gutted i missed it on the last minute as i was very excited all year round for it. Hopefully next year runs smoothly :) No BTTF items on Saturday, as far as I can remember, I didn't attend Sunday. It was a 'Bubble Shock' sticker from the Bane episode, I can't remember the exact title at the moment. It was apparently used in the actual episode, which was cool! I don't know how to upload photos here, so I'll have to link you to my twitter, https://twitter.com/jakers77777, and it's the first tweet down. There's always next year, so don't worry. I missed London this year and was devastated haha. I think next year will probably be the biggest yet if the crowd sizes are anything to go by! -
Hope everyone had a great time

I had a fantastic time, met two of the best guests I have ever talked to and got autos and photo shoots from both, they were lovely. There was tons up for auction, the Game of Thrones signed poster was probably the highlight for me. There was also a Sarah Jane Adventures prop I got for 50p, which was great, and various signed posters and memorabilia Shame you couldn't make it, hope next year turns out ok for you. -
Some relevant points here (Moving arenas), but I disagree that the event was unimpressive. I had a great time and got tons of great memorabilia, no aimed at kids at all, so I'm not sure where you got that from. It's all subjective, I suppose.

Latest Guest Announcement - DANIEL PORTMAN
jakers77777 replied to showmasters's topic in Film and Comic Con Glasgow 2015
Absolutely brilliant guest to meet, definitely one of my favourites for the auto and photoshoot. Please bring him back next year! -
Latest Guest Announcement - CHARLOTTE HOPE
jakers77777 replied to showmasters's topic in Film and Comic Con Glasgow 2015
Such a lovely guest to meet, we talked for about five minutes about the Jon Snow thing, and she is one of my favourite guests I've ever met to be honest. She was brilliant in the photoshoot too and I love the picture. Get her back next year, please! -
I actually hadn't thought about moving venues from that perspective, it's put another dynamic on it for me. I think at some point in the next few years, the show will definitely have to either move or be cancelled altogether - it just gets exponentially bigger year after year and the Braehead arena can't support that volume of people for much longer. This year was pretty much at capacity, I thought. There will almost certainly be a way to get a mobility scooter into the SECC or Hydro, I would have thought, or if not, they would surely let you bring your own? I'm not sure, but I hope it works out for you whatever way it goes.

Might as well get started early! I've always wanted to be the one to start one of the threads :) Feel free to move this to the 2016 forum once it's in action. I'll start: (seeing as the con seems to be growing, feel free to put in some big names)! Any Game of Thrones guests are great, I'll meet any and all announced. It would be fantastic to see returns from Kristian Nairn, Finn Jones, Daniel Portman, Charlotte Hope, and of course the legendary Julian Glover, as well as any others who have been to Glasgow before, I'd be well up for meeting them again. New guests are certainly welcome too, I'd love to see Ian Beattie, Jessica Henwick or any other regulars at Showmasters events come up to Glasgow. Big names would be great, and since we seem to have a bigger audience up here than previous years, is it really out of the question? Rose Leslie, Natalie Dormer, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Sean Bean... It would be a dream come true to see huge guests announced for a Glasgow con. It was great to see Hacksaw and the Million Dollar Man this year, how about some more WWF legends and current superstars? I don't watch wrestling anymore myself, but it would be interesting to meet all these guys I'd watched for years. LOST guests are quite rare at these things, so some of them would be fab. Same goes for Breaking Bad, I wonder why they are so few and far between at cons. Bit of a stretch, but any of the cast of The Breakfast Club would be amazing guests, I've always wanted to meet them. Don't you... forget about me... I'll stop there and report back throughout the year with more suggestions. Let's make this the biggest and best convention Glasgow has ever seen!

Have a great day everybody

I saw you a few times but was too shy to say hello! I was the guy in the star wars T-shirt at the Daniel Portman photoshoot :) -
Shameless self-advertising, but I have all my photos on my Twitter page, @jakers77777 (https://twitter.com/jakers77777) and I don't know how to upload them here, so feel free to check those out.

Won a prop from the Sarah Jane Adventures TV show for 50p lol, great bargain there!

Hello! Just thought I'd put in my two cents about today - what went well and what improvements could possibly be made. If any SM head honchos are reading this, I'd really appreciate it if you took any or all of my advice on board. Let me start by saying that today was one of the best days I've had in a long, long time. I loved every second! I really needed this since I've been going through a bit of a tough time lately, so I wanted to thank SM personally for that. The stalls were amazing and I bought some brilliant and well-priced mementos, the auction was interesting and I even managed to snag a TV prop for 50p! Cosplayers were so friendly and willing to pose for photos, not to mention the insane quality of their costumes. I tried to get as many as I could because there were so many stellar outfits! Last but not least, the two guests I met (Daniel Portman and Charlotte Hope), were so lovely to meet and definitely two of the best guests I have met so far, if not the best. They were very chatty, I talked to each for about 5 minutes, (unheard of at the London show), about Game of Thrones, Glasgow and life in general. My photoshoots with them turned out better than I could have hoped, and I was overall delighted with the whole experience. Summing up, it was a bloody good day! If there is one constructive criticism I could make, I'd really like to see the event moved to a larger venue next year. The show has grown so much, even from last year, and at times it was difficult to get around - it could take about 20 minutes to do a circuit of the arena. This posed problems with photoshoots, the auction, all sorts, so if SM want to continue growing this event, which I would love, I'd suggest maybe booking the SECC or the Hydro next year. Braehead is just too small now for the number of fans this event has attracted! I don't want to imagine another year with even more people there! Just a wee point that would make the experience a whole lot better. Overall though, I was delighted with today. Thank you Showmasters, I hope to come back next year (My toll is at least two Game of Thrones guests ) Jakers.

Had such a great day today, I loved it! I agree with the space issues, though. I might make a post about it... -
Who are you planning to meet?
jakers77777 replied to Matthewman's topic in Film and Comic Con Glasgow 2015
Photoshoots and Autographs with Charlotte Hope and Daniel Portman. Should be fun! -
Good Evening! I'm really excited about tomorrow, I hope you guys are too. I have two photoshoots planned (Charlotte Hope, Daniel Portman), I'm hoping to get autographs from them both, I'll be browsing stalls, taking part in the auction and getting photos with cosplayers - it should be great! I just wanted to say, I'll be there pretty much from opening to closing time tomorrow, so come up and say hi if you see me! I'll be wearing a Star Wars T-Shirt and a hand of the king badge, and possible a grey hoodie (depends on how hot it gets). Enjoy tomorrow and Sunday! jakers

Event Dates Swap Around Suggestion
jakers77777 replied to mands151271's topic in Film and Comic Con Glasgow 2015
I'm not sure swapping the dates around would work, but I totally get where you're coming from. I think it wold be a bigger help if we could move the event to a bigger venue. Braehead Arena is great, but it's not suitable for the large crowds needed to attract big guests like Joe Flannigan. I'm not sure if Showmasters realise, but we actually have two appropriate venues here in Glasgow, not far from Braehead in the Hydro and the SECC. Each wold dramatically increase the attendance capacity and therefore, bigger guests could be booked. If SM want to grow the Glasgow event, I'd suggest starting there.
