  1. So....anyone else watch it? Interesting to see how they interpret the books (which I have read...all of them). *repeats to self must not get distracted by the eyecandy*
  2. what about the new doctor....Peter Capaldi.
  3. Well...if your worry is wearing standard dress for pictures. Why not go for something like a headless monk (DW) cosplay. Then all you need is basicly a hooded dressing gown. and you can put thet over normal clothes. Then take it off when you want a photo and it won't take up too much room to fold it up and put in a bag. See its not hard just takes creative thinking. Its also very useful for getting a seat to yourself on the train. Hmmmm...maybe that's an idea have a try on a costume (or maybe a wardrobe) bit for those who don't want to cosplay all day but want to have a go at trying ot put together an outfit.

    Last Post Wins?

I used to play this on another forum.
  5. Out of my budget. Even my costume doesn't cost that much (but then I'm no including labour costs of how long it takes me to make it.) Oh, go on....cosplay. Even if you just start with a character that wears 'normal' clothes...its totally empowering. My thing is historical and vintage so this is just an outlet for my creativity. I can justify making clothes that aren't 'modern'. What is it that stops you from cosplaying? I did wonder about having a cosplay sew-a-long on my blog...to help cosplay newbies.
  6. I'm still hoping for dsome who guests on the saturday...as I don't fancy using public transport on a sunday. I know what you mean - I've decided to take my life into my own hands this summer and will be commuting from the south coast each and every day... Pray for me.... I'm commuting from the far reaches of SE Essex....in costume....that'll be fun. lol

  8. This was a random but very cool thought..I couldn't find a suggestion box type place. But what about getting one of those artists that do the 3d 'paintings' on the floor? I bet it would be good photo opertunity...could be something for the comic book fans so they can 'look' like they are flying.
  9. All I'm gonna say is Ooooh now that was a cliffhanger and a half. Seems sherlock is better as stopping leaks/spoilers than doctor who. lol Sme of it I worked out other bits I didn't. And I bet were gonna have to wait forever for the next bit.
  10. That's not a bad idea - could be held in the prop shoot area when it's quiet. Save on printing costs and I would imagine most if not all cosplayers would love some pro-shots of their gear... I'd love a proffessional photo of my cosplay....saves the terrible shots I get. lol!
  11. Sherlock Cast -- Paul McGann (he's my fave Doctor *sigh* and I really want to get a photoshoot with him).
  12. Looking likely I will do a Femme!Sherlock. (a Victorian outfit inspired by the modern sherlocks outfit).
  13. They all look so good. Is there much steampunk there?
  14. Bit random but I couldn't find a thread. Is there any way to see past winners and runners up for cosplay competition/masquerade (just so I can see the level to aim at)?
  15. I think it really all depends on what you want to cosplay. I am, I'll admit, a sucker for cosplays that are just every day clothes so it doesn't take an awful lot of sewing, etc. on top of sourcing the correct items. It might be an idea to write yourself a list of outfits you'd really love to do, and then try to figure out which would be the easiest to start on. As you cosplay more you can build up to more extravagant things that require more skill. I'll be wearing nothing but normal clothes in the summer, but it doesn't mean that any less effort went into it; I'm having to make weapons belts and all sorts, not to mention weathering everything, which is fun in itself. It's amazing once you start looking how just a few tweaks or modifications and you can make normal clothes have a cosplay feel. Sometimes its just the combination of items worn with a swagger that makes it special.
  16. What/who do you want to cosplay? My thing is vintage and historical...hence I tend to lurk around those types of sewing forums. And sew my own stuff.
  17. btw. Thanks to everyone for your responses. Been enlightening and useful. Now I've just got to think of a bag to make to match my cosplay that I can carry lunch, drink, shopping etc around in. :)
  18. Thanks. Well if there are any guests from the who-niverse I've got my Riversong Journal style autograph book I made. http://stitchintimeandspace.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/journal-of-impossible-things-short.html Only got colin bakers autograph so far.
  19. Hmmm...I keep changing my mind. *sigh* Help.
  20. I'm only doing one day but if I enjoy it I'll do a whole weekend for the winter one. Although I have to tot up how much it will cost to commute from SE Essex each day.
  21. To get there for 8am I'd need a 5.30am alarm catching a 6am train. lol! I think I'd rather queue than have to get up that early again. Especially as I'll have to travel in my cosplay. So far none of the big guests announced are of interest to me...I'm still hoping for some doctor who guests to get announced nearer the time. So I'm hoping it won't be too much of a struggle to get tickets for what I want. Oh I didn't realise you had to get tickets for free talks. Also on that note by bringing your own lunch you'll be guaranteed to have something nice to eat - not that the food available isn't nice but i'm a man of simple tastes and kale tortillia salsa in a sessame seed cucumber infested dover sole ciabatta is not my cup of tea - and certainly not at their prices... bacon butty for me all the live long day... kale tortillia salsa in a sessame seed cucumber infested dover sole ciabatta.....mmmmm...sounds tasty. Talking of tea can you get a decent cup of tea or is it all coffee people who can't make tea properly? I think I read somewhere about a cloakroom. How much does it cost and is it always manned? (I'm trying to gather how secure it is. Coz I've seen at other different events anything from a table with two bored looking people to a locked room being decribed as a cloakroom.) As for planning a timetable down to the second...I've done that before. Used to even highlight the programs for the folk festivals I went to and timed how long it took to get from one venue to another. That's not slightly obsessive at all is it?
  22. Ok so I've been looking everywhere for a beginners guide...is there one available? Text based or a video 'walking' you round the venue explaining how everything works? (best ever beginers guide for an event I saw was a video...explained it better than the FAQ). Also what to avoid/look for...kinda like you were explaining it to a friend. e.g. Its hot/cold so bring a jumper/bottle of water. Where you can sit down and rest your feet. etc. Best place for food. How to plan your day to best effect. What is best times/days to do each activity. Any highlights. I am ditsy enough to end up queuing in the wrong queue quite by accident...I blame it on being so shortsighted. I go for the holistic detective approach and just follow people hoping they know where to go.
  23. So watched the empty herse and last night the sign of three (Internally I shouted but it should be the sign of four! lol!) I feel like they are moving further away from the books with the series. Other than re-using the names of the titles - sort of - and characters it seems not to reflect the original stories that much. Unlike study in pink which I thought was quite a clever re-telling. Not take as show in its own right not trying to compare it...I found it enjoyable. Has some good moments but I felt both episodes meandered a bit too much before coming back to the plot.
