I was thinking the same, almost every weekend he's somewhere.I guess the tv work has dried up.

If the star can only autograph a number of items during a day, and all that time is spent meeting the 'public'.
I can't honestly see how dealers (buying 5 autographs as quoted), are so important to make or break any deal.
I also would assume that these dealers weren't paying the same prices at the public either. If I was buying in bulk, I'd want to negotiate a deal.
So when a guest is high profile, and guaranteed to sign all day. Why are we giving them preferential treatment?.
I think that we've been told only half of the 'facts'.

I have no problem paying big bucks for autographs.
Collecting Apollo autographs really isn't a cheap game.
I just want to pay a fair price.
I really can't be bothered to go through the argument on the other thread, but there was some logic to my complaint. Read it all back, and you'll understand.

Actually, at the current rate, that is GBP 43.85, so still cheaper.

The price is $65 which is £38.02.
This is their autograph service, so perhaps the show fee will be even less.

Because it's the case worldwide. It's happening in America, it's happening at other events over here also. Plus it's not just about guest fees - it's everything in general. So many prices are rising across the boards and costs for SM are going up year on year. Flights, hotels, venue costs etc.That's not even considering the guest fees.
So somewhere something has to give.
All I'm personally saying is that I have no vested financial interest in this company, and I struggle to meet everyone I want just like everyone else.
It’s a myth that American prices are higher.
In many cases they are consistently cheaper. For example Stan is 15-20 pounds cheaper during an appearance in the next couple of weeks, and the volume of autographs sold will be vastly smaller than it was in London.
You claim it’s because of airfares, but an airfare between 2,000 – 3,000 people really isn’t that much of a difference.
Airfares and hotels are also fairly consistant, year on year. (Again, you and I have no knowledge of how much it costs to rent an arena)
Please back up your claims with some figures.

Can you please view MY opinion as based on my experience and my £££ please? Hey, if SM could lower all the prices so I could get all the photos and autographs I wanted then great! And if the dealers could lower their prices so I could get more merchandise too, that would be fantastic.
My opinion isn't based on being a moderator. It's as someone who has attended these events for 11 years. SM will keep prices where they can for as long as possible, but sometimes things have to change.
But hey I'm just a mod who isn't allowed an opinion right
This is when I get muddled with some of your claims David.
With respect, 99.9% of people here are unaware of the exact costs involved, as we have no access to the fee's that the guests charge.
So how can any of us categorically state that the guests prices are rising, and therfore comment.
I suspect that you too even though you have some status fall into this category.
I also suspect that the profit from last week was huge!. It was a great weekend for Showmasters.
Surly any business in profit could in theory reduce prices?, its just unlikely.

Worse still, the numbers selected to win included some programs not yet on sale. I saw two American girls write down the winning numbers and go through the pile of programs on sale. They only bought programs which corresponded to the pre-selected winning numbers.

I get the plaques made from a guy in the States, about £6 each.
Can you give me anymore details about the guy who makes the plaques.
I think they look really good.

Somebody actually chose the numbers.
How does anybody actually guarantee that specific numbers weren't magically listed because they were friends.....
Even that bit doesn't even strike me as fair, or well managed.

Much to what people think I have done sound professionally before and understand the issues with the super stage - believe me I tried everything to try and get it right, I have made suggestions about how the sound is set up in the future, it also doesn't help when some guests hold the mic to their mouth and others at waist height!
As for makig the event longer, bear in mind that most of us are volunteers and by the end of Sunday are completely burnt out, some of us work from 7am on the Thursday until late Sunday ( and some even longer than that). Maybe having a few of the bigger guests signing outside of show hours would work.

Even when my football team were in the non-leauge they had a better sound system for their fans forums, than multimilion pound Showmasters have for paid talks - and believe it or not fans hold their microphones in various ways too.
With no disrispect intended. Isn't it time they employed full-time professionals to do things like this, as opposed to running it on a shoe string with volenteers.
It's time to get a bit more professional, and invest some money into some serious kit.

Some people are on here saying that these new packages will only be for the super rich, but that is not what I took from Jason's comment. It sounded to me that it would be something like £50 for a VIP ticket for a guest that gets you a photo and auto. Ok, i made up that figure but it'll probably be a bit more than the cost of both if you bought on the day, which seems right for the guarantee that you'll get them. I can't see it being too expensive and as long as they limit the amount it should still be possible for people to buy tickets the normal way. Personally I think it's a good idea.
Buuuuuuut some people don't want a photoshoot, and some don't want an autograph.
So in effect, you're forcing the photoshoot collectors to take an autograph, and the autograph collectors to take a photograph.
There are only so many autograph slots a day. Why waste them on people who don't want them?

The mail in service for one of Stan Lee's next appearances is 10 pounds cheaper.
I guess if they operate like Showmasters, and charge a handling fee it may actually be 15-20 pounds, and none of the problems featured this weekend.

As I said, his flights from his location to the con will be way less than a trans-atlantic one to LFCC. Which the organisers have to pay.
If the only option to get an autograph in the future is to buy a £200-300 VIP ticket, as there is no garenttee if 10,000 general entry ticket holders are fighing for the remaining 200-300 autograph slots.
My point is that the option of attending elsewhere without all these hassles suddenly seems more appealing.

So essentially Jason you have;
dismissed pretty much everything that went wrong
blamed the people who turned up at the event rather than your poor policing
made up some random entry times that supposedly everyone got in by - despite the many people stating that isn't true
thought of a new way to make even more money by charging for an exclusive new ticket that guarantees an auto from an A lister
brushed over all the issues that were happening outside the event
repeatedly patted yourself on the back and congratulated yourself for doing an excellent job
This is why your events will never improve. In your eyes you can't do any wrong and do not learn from your mistakes.
I've emailed an official complaint which I will await a response to in due course.
I agree with this post. There seems to be a whole bunch missing.
I'm not sure how raising prices is actually going to change anything.
Especially when overseling was partly the route of the problem this weekend.
A signer can only sign a certain number of autographs a day. With Gold / SILVER / VIP / Comic (or whatever it'll be called), it'll just become an event for big spenders. As there simply won't be any capacity left for the 'general entry' tickets.
It will soon be cheaper to fly to America, and go to their events if prices keep increasing at the rate they are.

The event costs just seem to be going up, and up and up.
More exclusive tickets, and higher prices is all that I see.
Instead of tacking the real issues, its just going to get worse, and more and more people are going to be disappointed.
That's the issue though. If you keep everything open to everyone and cheap, this weekend happens all over again. People just wander up at a random time and fill up the hall or the queues outside. And then those are the vocal people who will complain and call the event rubbish because they were too cramped or didnt get in.
And it's not liek we can easily just go somewhere else. There's only really the Excel (which is expensive to hire lots of) or (and it'll sound crazy) the O2 arena. I dont think there is anywhere else in London big enough for how big this event has become. So if SM cant afford those 2 places without making tickets crazy expensive for us, then they have to stay at EC2 and work out ways to cut down the attendees slightly. So pre-paid only is a great way to do that.
EVERY walk of life has increased prices these days. I'm sure all the stuff Jason and co have to pay for to run these events has gone up recently, so they have to make that back some how.
I have no issue with the pre-paid idea.
I'm just miffed why it has to be 'exclusive' and therefore higher prices.
Why not just sell pre-paid tickets for autographs at the standard rate?.
Thats the bit I'm having trouble with. You could make it better just changing the way you do things, there is no reason to invent new price levels!.
.....and I don't want a photoshoot!, mug, or lanyard, or badge. I just want an autograph.

There was a thread before the show about what people were going to buy, and there were some huuuuuuge lists of autographs and photoshoots!
So what did people actually spend there! :)

@cropsy - we'll have to agree to disagree. I'm not interested in propaganda in the slightest, but if that's how you see it then fair enough. I can't let people have free rein here or what's the point in moderators anyway? :)
But hey, I will never please 100% of the people here so that's fine :)
I think we had differing views on moderating, I like the relaxed approch and moderators there to keep subjects on track, and stop insults.
I'm not bothered if people repeat the same experiences, their opinions are just as valid as mine.
If somebodies views are clearly wrong, through open discussion the rest of the forum should police itself with alternative opinions. Thats is essentially what a forum is.
You seem to like to get too involved, and like control. I've been involved on hundreds of forums through other interests, and I've never experienced anything like this place for deletions, modoerator interferance, or numbers banned.
This is not an insult at all, we just have a clearly different view on how it should be done.

Not the case.. we often house keep on guest suggestion topics and stuff like that too :) plenty gets moved around etc.
I would like to argue that this is not the case on this ocation, but I'm now fearful I'll be dispatched for daring to complain.
So lets agree to disagree.
You have the power to delete threads, and because of your profile you see the event from a different perspective than most attendees.

Seeing it from a Mod (on another forum) POV. I think perhaps its more housekeeping. So everyone posts comments in the same threads rather than having to search a million different ones to find all the comments.
I'm just concerned that house keeping only seems to happen on negative threads, not positive ones......

So they sell 3 extra autographs, at a lower cost.
I very much doubt that the margins are that tight, to be commercially viable.
I'd perfer them just to be clear and say its all about making more profit. (as with everything else seemingly in LFCC)
For most 'big guests', the general public on the whole don't get a handshake, or anything other than 'hello'.
It's over in a few seconds.
A dealer to move through multiple prints would warrant interaction, and some care taken so not to damage any of the prints.
I bet that it actually takes longer than two regular people.
