  1. Really need to grow a set and do this. I took my wee boy as Iron Man last year and he had a blast.

There was a girl last year dressed as a Tardis who was perfect. As in comic book, movie star, blueprint perfect lol. Cosplay should really come with health warning labels haha.

Genuinely stunned at the standard people dress to. Taking that much time and dedication is something to be super proud of.

  2. I'm a freak mate, I don't go to meet people at these things. I've the most screwed up moral compass on earth thats hard to explain but something doesnt sit well with me paying a person just to meet them. I love the occasion, meeting random people and learning.

I dont do signatures or photos with anyone in any walk of life. Id rather just meet them and say "you're awesome for such and such a reason, thanks for those cool memories" and walk on like the oddball I am haha.

  3. i know the one lol,i did make it to the gala it was alot busier than i thought it would be my nephew enjoyed sitting in the fire engine and the wee rides, did you enjoy the gala ?

I never got out to see it bud. We were mobbed from opening until shutting time so I never seen daylight at all from 10am until 4am lol. Im really pleased for the organisers and kids though, great day for everyone!

  4. sooo this will be my first collectormania event...

any advice for a newbie going alone? :)

you'll be fine, just dont believe the 'everyones friendly' stuff. Last year I went alone the first day then took my wee boy (dressed as Iron Man) the 2nd day. The venue was mobbed, staff were was great, vendors superb but tons of visitors were grumpy, rude and honked of BO. Way to go on the stereotype killin, folks! :spew:

My buddy is coming up from Croydon this year as he is just getting into Comics which is all kinds of awesomes for me

If you can, grab a bud or meet someone from here, I'd say it would make your day/days a lot better.

I fired over a wee follow on Twitter, there should be some chat there on the lead-up :king:

    Also.

Free comic book day?! The North East needs that........

It's worldwide, not just Scottish. It gets bigger and bigger each year. I just went into Stirling instead of Glasgow this year, much easier

Cool i was in Stirling for Free comic book day too i was there at about 10:30

Nice and early lol. Seen your wee side thing, Im in Dunipace as well most days so Stirling is handy for it. Shame Falkirk has nothing, but not sure of a huge demand.

Thats true lol worried they would be all sold out  i know what you mean it would be great to have a comic/memoribilia shop in falkirk but i dont think there would be a big demand for it there used to be a wee music/film memoribila shop in falkirk called fame but it only lasted a year,do you work in dunipace ?

Live in Denny, work in Glasgow, own a business in Dunipace haha. Its "Red" if that gives you a clue. Did you make it out for the gala?

  7. Newcastle was amazing, well worth it! I'm excited for next year already. I'd recommend making the trip.

Edit: Meant to quote vodkawrestling with this but apparently I still haven't got to grips with the quote button!

Doh, meant to ask, is there a Twitter account for the event at all? Cant beat a Tweet

  8. It was such a friendly atmosphere. I noticed a lot of people came along alone and left with friends! I'm going along with quite a few people next year anyway. We're pretty weird but we're friendly!

Cool, thinking thats the way to go. Might just get my buddy along for company.

  9. Just one of these things bud. We made a day of it as Hamleys were doing a superhero day but when we went by FP at 1030ish they were out already lol. Geek Retreat was the same. Its great putting days on like this though, roping kids in and getting that emotional tie.

The wee guy wasnt exactly stuck for comics, my house is packed with them anyway haha. Have a good day bud :)

  10. I always feel bad picking up freebies. Horrible explaining to my son last year why there were no comics left as queues of grown men had snaffled them all early doors. Im sure I heard they are going heavy on GotG this year to build interest for later in the year. The recent Brian Michael Bendis run has been really good.

No worries wee bud :) One of my best mates lives in Croydon and after Glasgow being crazily busy last year, I was thiking about going to a different one this year. I don't mind heading along but London area means I can hook up with him. NE would make it a day trip or overnight stop, plus you lot are pretty friendly anyway :D

Im sure if I do a wee Twitter search I can find some info as well and people on the day to take pity

  12. I found this page the other day about graphic novels featuring strong women.

    http://www.amightygi.../graphic-novels

It seems like a good selection. I suppose it depends what you want to read about though, I love reading Marvel and DC (I just ignore the half naked ladies) but then I do also like some quirky graphic novels that are aimed more at the female market like The Plain Janes and Ghost World.

I've only started reading again recently myself so it's not a massive help but it's a start until someone else can be a bit more thorough haha :)

It's a strong list indeed! I always love a bit of Red She-Hulk but Captain Marvel has some great stories too. I lean heavily towards Marvel comics though.

  13. I would thoroughly recommend Y: The Last Man. The lead character is male (huge spoiler after reading the title......) but lives in a world now only populated by women. It's fantastic and really builds strong stories for all the women involved. Personally, I read it as its a fantastic comic but the story would give most women a little kick I think!

  14. Would anyone reasonably local have old comics or magazines you need shot of?

I am redecorating my customer toilets to have a mosaic style with tons of old comics (yes and showmaster flyers!) on the walls. I have a vision in my head but think it may take a lot of (late night) work. If anyone has a bunch of comics that are destined for the bin, let me know.

Even film magazines, old Jackie mags too for the ladies haha.

  15. Well Glasgow has a cool little hang out known as Geek Retreat, and a fair number on here are there regularly. That and if you have the funds there's the bigger shows too.

I have heard of Geek Retreat, sounds great, ill def take a trip there sometime :) .

Its a lovely spot. My pub just round corner from you has loads of flyers for it. Im constantly hoping one of my regulars will come out the closet and admit to Geekery so I can make a friend haha

  16. That's too bad Rachez. It was Catch 22 for everyone, I dont think anyone can be blamed really. I felt sorry for those with kids or in wheelchairs trying to navigate as it's not anyones fault its busy. Although I cant say I spotted a wee lass with a huge case haha.

I had my boy on Sunday and we would have happily minded your case for 20-30mins in the stands to allow you to mingle.

  17. Padawan, at one point on Sunday I am pretty sure my boy (dressed as Iron Man) and I were up in the stands next to you guys munching a hotdog. Son turned round, clocked you and then looked at me half worried/half wondering if Iron Man could take Wolverine haha.

I was tempted to go over and ask if you had spotted the flyers in your local boozer
