  1. I've never been to comic con so not sure about this, if I buy a diamond pass to see Freddy krueger do I also need to buy an entry ticket?

Yes. Diamond Passes are guest specific and does not include entry into the event.

I've bought the Robert Englund Diamond Pass, but I'm still waiting on more announcements before I decide which entry ticket to buy (i.e. one day or who weekend).

  2. just so everyone knows Robert dose not do this really , this is his only planed Make up shoot in Europe , it takes him 2 to 3 hours to get into make up so its a big thing , we have to fly over and cover the costs of having the make up artist to come to the UK .

so this is a very rare chance to even be able to be apart of this and we just wanted to let everyone know we do not have any plans to do this ever again its a one off so do not miss out if this is something you care about.

one other thing to remember when Robert gos into make up he becomes Freddy and the photo shoots are going to be just amazing crazy experience and i for one am so looking forward to this and we are so pleased we have managed to be able to offer this to you all :-)

lots more to come for next years LFCC we have so much planed for you all

    Jason

Thank you! I'm so excited for this and I can't wait to interact with the real Freddy character.

Having more thoughts about it, I think it would be best that he didn't wear the hat for the photoshoot because it would obstruct the view of the wonderful prosthetic make-up. With that said, his signature striped jumper is a must!

As a special effects artist, I'm also so glad to be meeting Robert Kurtzman as well. :D

  3. Not being a horror fan in the slightest, I have to say that this does intrigue me... It's Freddy, a legend by and standards, just don't know if I'm willing to part with £135 for a costume shoot at this point in the run up. Maybe further down the line... who knows...

Gratz to all Horror fans.

This is no ordinary quick costume change shoot. Robert will be sitting in the makeup chair for a few hours to have the multi-piece prosthetics applied, exactly like in the movies. Worth every penny!

I just hope that he does wear his signature striped jumper and not some promotional t-shirt like he did in the States.

It would be amazing if they can get some kind of green screen going on or a backdrop set of the Elm St house or boiler room.

    I HAVE A QUESTION

I would love to meet and get something signed by Robert Kurtzman as well. Can this be included within the Diamond Pass please??

Robert Kurtzman will be listed as a guest over the week end as a guest in his own right

    much more to come

    jason

Thank you for your reply Jason.

    This is great news!

If this proves popular you could try and get Bob Keen & Geoff Portass to make Doug Bradly into Pinhead next year ;)

  5. Robert Englund would not generate a pre announcement and he has done lots of signings I have a feeling it may be a certain 5'11 actress who has appeared in a little film called Alien but hey that's just me!!

Yes partly true, but this announcement is for a chance to take part in something which has only been done once before in the world. This doesn't mean that it's definitely a diamond guest announcement, it's more of what is being organised with this guest announcement.

  6. My friend had a photo shoot with Robert Englund in full Freddy Krueger costume. That was a 1st time event. Maybe this is the 2nd time

Could be a possibility. Robert Englund was just announced for the Sheffield con, so perhaps talks were made for him to also come back to London (with make-up artist Robert Kurtzman) in Freddy make-up.

That would be amazing, but I'm thinking it's more likely Michael J Fox (possibly with Christopher Lloyd too) in a special Delorean photoshoot for the BTTF 30th anniversary. Has that happened once before?

  7. Watched Exists last night and thought it was ok.

Since it was from the director of 'The Blair Witch Project', I was a expecting a slower and more suspense build up. I was so up for a scary movie!

With that said, I particularly liked how the sasquatch looked, and the (faster) pace worked quite well in the end. As Andini said above, it's an in your face creature feature.

The annoying thing about this film (and all other 'found footage' films) is that there is always someone who wont just put the camera down and help their friend!

  8. Have just read that Neve Campbell is going to start doing conventions next year! She would be a great diamond guest. She would appeal to horror fans as the lead in all 4 Scream movies and The Craft and she also starred in Party of 5 as well as popular movies like Wild Things. She would be so popular and great to meet.

I would be happy to see her attend, but I wouldn't class her as a diamond guest.

  9. I saw the clip they released last month with the bigfoot just stood in the road. Looked good. Will give it a watch. Has anyone seen The Babadook yet? it looks good but i fear it might be like Intruders and Silent House from a few years back, if you've seen them 2 you will know what i mean.

The Babadook is definitely worth a watch but it didn't meet expectations since reading all the hype surrounding it. Great performance by Essie Davis, it was very creepy, but the film lacked the scares.

A rent / cinema viewing at best. I may buy the blu-ray when the price goes down.

  10. Thanks for the recommendation. I actually enjoyed The Blair Witch Project so I'm looking forward to their take on Bigfoot.

I haven't seen Willow Creek, missed it at Frightfest, but heard only mediocre reviews.

Can't really blame him. Heard so many horror stories about the way some dealers behave at premiers and stage doors I'm surprised more people don't have this kind of attitude. It's slowly killing our hobby if you ask me. How do you tell a "genuine fan" from someone who's just going to try and sell it?

Ask them a question that only a true fan could answer on the spot? Or personalise the item.

But even real fans will have multi signed items that they wouldn't want personalising so that wouldn't be fair on them. I've got posters with loads of signatures on that aren't personalised that I have no intention of selling, just feel they look better without my name all over them.

Exactly! I don't like my items personalised because I don't like having my name written multiple times all over the place.

There has been times where the celebrity would make a comment (or a joke) about selling their autograph when I ask them not to personalise it. It's a tad embarrassing.

Some celebrities (such as Alan Rickman) will only personalise because they are aware that majority of the people who approach them are not genuine fans, but those to make a quick buck.

    I applaud Ewan McGregor's quote.

  12. Hmm, I heard that the cast & crew were going to be in town for when the BTTF Musical begins (in time for the 30th Anniversary), but I've seen that the musical has been delayed until 2016 due to the director leaving the project. Doesn't mean we wont be getting a BTTF reunion for LFCC; Showmasters gave too much of an easy clue for us to decrypt ;)

  13.

'Horror' as a genre is, as people have said, extremely wide. Problem with doing genre-specific conventions is that they're often TOO wide.

You laugh at Power Rangers but the fanbase for that is HUGE and has been for years. Clearly people aren't aware of how passionate those fans are and how the show has kept going for years and years, gaining new fans and also keeping the old ones also.

To choose guests from the ENTIRE genre of Horror is very difficult because that's like having an Action con or a Romantic Comedy one. If someone attended one, it doesn't mean they love every single film/tv thing out there under that genre. You can understand why Power Rangers would have an appeal over its fanbase, but Horror is a more difficult thing to pin down.

As for the other factors I've mentioned - availability, costs etc. No one seems to even bother taking those into account. If SM don't feel that it's financially viable to do a convention, I'm pretty sure they probably have more of a clue than most of we do about running events. They're not going to run themselves into the ground.

Respectfully disagree with all of that. Theres no history of action or romantic film cons. And honestly horrors fanbase is 10x bigger than power rangers, its not even close. and the fact that horror guests will more than likely have non horror credits is a positive not a negative. Horror is big buisness with devoted magazines, websites and cons all over. Go into forbidden planet and the horror stock will outnumber power rangers stock by 100x. If SM don't want to do a horror con then thats fair enough but to say theres no call for it carries no weight in fact ive only ever heard you on this forum say that. Its sm loss, i would pay £300/400 for an all inclusive weekend pass with top guests like Carpenter, Craven, Barker. Believe me i, like others in this thread am quite knowledgable on horror and it would be rammed with fans because theres a gap in the marketplace. Showmasters should fill that gap.

This! I couldn't have worded it better.

You only have to look back at this years LFCC to see how populer George A Romero was. Other cons are doing it right because they are booking the right guests, with the right business strategy, that will attract everyone. I'm not even talking about the American cons, Germany took the right approach and are now one of the biggest in Europe attracting 1000s from around the world. Horror is a genre like no other; they have their own dedicated film distributors, successful magazine/book publications, multiple premiere film festivals, etc. You don't get that with 'action' or 'comedy', they're simply not marketable, so they should never be compared to horror at all.

This thread is to not complain about a lack of a 'horror con', but the fact that SM are overlooking the genre when booking guests this year.

Last year's events we were treated to quite a variety of guests but we have had nothing since LFCC.

No one knows who is available or costs etc. So to say there's plenty to choose from simply ignores all the other factors unfortunately.

There are more horror movies made than any other genre by a country mile so I would say there's plenty to choose from.

    This!!

Also to note, horror is the 2nd most profitable genre (in terms of dvd sales, merch etc.) just below Disney.

There is a massive fanbase out there.

I understand all the other factors that go into booking a guest, but you can't honestly say that SM cannot find one single guest in that genre for all upcoming events this year.

There are literally guests who are out there who are saying "hey, pick me, I want to be there".

I see other cons managing this so I'm finding it hard to believe why SM can't book any.

  16. Yep, my thoughts exactly.

Although these events do lack in quantity, we usually do get a couple of decent horror guests. Since LFCC there has been no horror guests at all.

There are loads to choose from, for example:

Rose Mcgowan is doing cons in america this year, as well as Tobin Bell.

We still haven't had Graig Sheffer rescheduled (although I understand he recently cancelled an appearance due to a bereavement), or try and get a Nightbreed reunion since the Directors Cut is soon to be released this month.

The winter show could have also had guests from the Halloween movies, another missed opportunity.

Not forgetting the cast of the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise who all have had a keen interest since one of our members here contacted them on social media.

So yes, I agree, horror is definitely being neglected in comparison to all events SM have held before LFCC 2014.
