  1. Well, she did so for me, too, and John winked at me and said 'well, officially there's no photos' and then posed for one with me anyway. I think he was getting sick of her as well. My friend was annoyed with me for ignoring the girl when we had a photoshoot with John half an hour later anyway, but hey... she was rude and he basically offered!
  2. That's actually how it always works at Showmasters events, numbers are called 'up to' so that you can never miss your turn as long as the shoot (or shoots) of that day aren't over. So you're in the second shoot, or at the end of a single one, with a high number, but if you have a low number you can go whenever. That's why people try to order as soon as the photoshoots are in the store, usually. More flexibility that way.
  3. The ones controlling the queues outside did have Excel badges on, if I recall correctly.
  4. Oh, no, I didn't mean that my ornament was the Locutus bust you saw! I meant it was the weirdest thing I saw signed. My ornament is just Picard in his usual Starfleet outfit.
  5. Where was this elusive Forbidden Planet stall? I actually went looking for it and still couldn't find it!
  6. Frankly, that would have been my own item for Sir Patrick -- a Hallmark Keepsakes Picard Christmas ornament. He seemed a bit confounded by it, asking me where he should sign it (the flat bit on the side, if you were wondering). No interesting conversation about it though, as he was getting ready to leave and didn't have time to talk. Won't leave these things to the last minute next time
  7. They pretty much repeated the complaints that I've seen one guy (the one whose tweet they retweeted) vent all over the internet. Long queues (true, but Showmasters did do their best to handle that problem), a museum that was apparently 'tatty' and too small (not true, to me it was one of the best parts of the con, seeing all those props irl and even having a chat with the guy who owned them at the Filmwelt stand) and overpriced merch (not at all stands and not all the merch -- I got some very decently priced action figures at Filmwelt and at another stand -- and not something the organisers can help, anyway). I'm glad they at least didn't repeat his complaints about the Filmwelt people being German...
  8. Haha, no, that actually wasn't us, sorry! I know there were twin Alices on Saturday, but are you saying there was another Doctor also?
  9. That would lead to a far longer turnaround time at the shoots though, taking down and replacing the backdrop and then doing test shoots again to get the camera set up properly with the new backdrop.
  10. Cool, thanks! Are you sure you weren't supposed to get both the postcard and the 8x10, though? I got to borrow someone's 3-day pass (which also had a goodie bag included) for the Bobby Clarke auto, and his pass had separate punch-out bits for the goodie bag and the pre-signed (my two-day only had a punch out bit for the pre-signed). I don't know if they actually put the pre-signed in the goodie bag at the collection point as I didn't get a goodie bag until Sunday night when they were handing out the leftovers to all of us stragglers, but they were listed as separate on the pass. So maybe one of the people handing the extras out forgot to punch out and/or hand you your pre-signed?
  11. Wait, you guys didn't get a signed 8x10? Even us two-day pass holders got a pre-signed Ethan Phillips 8x10. That hardly seems fair, you paid a lot more than we did.
  12. Yep, we both were in the parade. He took a picture of me and your girlfriend with the parade winner, but I haven't seen his pictures yet. By the way, your girlfriend was my favourite in the parade! I loved how her Seven prosthetics actually lit up :)
  13. As I wasn't the only person in cosplay (luckily, or I'd have felt a bit embarrassed ), I figured I'd start a topic for those of us who'd like to see the pictures we took with fellow attendees! I was the female Eleventh Doctor hanging out with a tall male Tenth Doctor on Saturday, and Alice-263 (from I, Mudd) on Sunday (wearing a dark wig) -- still accompanied by the Tenth Doctor, by the way. I was asked to pose for photos quite a few times, and I'd love to see them!
  14. I had a great time, but frankly, I wouldn't want to do it for more than a weekend My legs would probably fall off!
  15. As for b, do you mean they weren't letting in the people who did have tickets, or those who did not? Because if the latter, I would agree with that. People spent a lot of time queueing to get those tickets, and some of us had clashing photoshoots and wanted to join the talk after it had started if we needed to. If the hall had been filled with unticketed people at that point, that would have been a big letdown. There is no denying that, but do you understand its not a PAID talk, its a free talk. Its not fair to the guests to see the hall half empty and lots of people crowding around outside. if you have a clash, and cannot make it there for the start, in my opinion, you should not have taken a ticket/or should lose the seat WHEN it starts. I appreciate that you should have a choice, but you decided to pay for the photo you were never going to miss that. Someone cant take ur photo spot essentially, the line just moves forward, but the talk had an empty seat which could've been used . I understand that these are 'free' talks (that is, talks included in the main ticket price), but I do feel that those who were there early to queue up for the talk tickets have, so to speak, earned the right to see the talks. With photo clashes, the pit bosses do try to rush you through as fast as possible (we got both John DeLancie and William Shatner done in less than ten minutes when we had to get to the Michael Dorn talk), but yes, you do risk running late. That's why the ticket system works so well for cons like this -- this way, turning up for the con early means you can then do both things, even if you're a bit late for the talk. The talk did not have two empty seats that could have been used, the talk had two reserved seats that were empty for 5-10 minutes and then had us sitting in them, enjoying the talk that we queued to get tickets for.

  17. Yeah, we got in at 9.15, must have been 5 minutes later when we'd found the back of the queue (it had gone around past the Stage B exit, back again, and actually the back was right past the paid talk sales booth), and I'd say there were easily 500 people in front of us at that time (and 15 minutes later, probably the same amount behind us).
  18. Unfortunately, that wasn't true. On Saturday, we got there as soon as we could, which was about 9.15. We queued for two hours and then we could only get tickets for Walter Koenig. On Sunday, we had a bit more luck as we got there before it opened, but the Brent Spiner tickets were still gone long before our turn came. So while I'm glad that you got your tickets, and I accept that we probably should have just been there even earlier so we'd be at the front of the queue, you were mistaken in believing that everyone behind you would get their tickets.
  19. Maybe I used the wrong term -- I meant the pin that came in the bag, with the DSTL logo on. Didn't you get that?
  20. I'm actually quite glad I got Ethan, as Neelix was one of my favourite characters on Voyager. But I get your point, he wasn't an attending guest. Doesn't matter much to me, but I can see how it would to some.
  21. -More crowd capacity for the free talks, there were a lot of disappointed people without tickets -- there were several free talks that could have filled a hall as large as the Main Stage one easily. -A higher stage for stages B and C, as even when sitting almost at the front, I could hardly catch a glimpse of some of the speakers because my view was blocked by the people in front of me.
  22. There were a few bad aspects, but overall I'm quite satisfied with the con and the staff. The main disappointment was that on the Saturday, after getting off the all-night coach and hurrying to the convention to get some talk tickets, we had to queue for a good two hours and then all tickets we wanted except those for Walter Koenig were gone. This was fixed on Sunday though, with the queues separated by talk, and the only disappointment on Sunday was that tickets to the Brent Spiner talk were basically impossible to get for us regular attendees (the Platinum, Gold and Silver queues got to enter first and most of them, quite logically, made a beeline for the talk tickets and got the best ones). Then again, you get what you pay for. There were a lot of awesome things that the crew did for us, though: -In the two-hour queue from hell on Saturday, there were crew members moving down the queue from front to back handing out tickets as they went to speed things up, which I thought was really nice. -When we missed the Brent Spiner photoshoot (through our own misjudgement -- having seen the queue, we thought we could afford to run out to the hotel to grab my bag of stuff to get signed that I'd managed to leave behind, but by the time we got back he'd just left) the crew at the org booth were very helpful and exchanged the now-useless photoshoot tickets for autograph vouchers so that we'd still be able to meet him. -When we had a clash with the John DeLancie and William Shatner photoshoots and the Michael Dorn talk, the pit bosses at both shoots were awesome and rushed us through. We made the talk only five minutes late! -Having talked to a crew member about the costume parade before and having been told that sign-up would clash with the Michael Dorn talk, we thought we'd have to miss the parade, only to have the crew member (along with a few fellow cosplayers) find us after the talk and tell us they were still signing up people. We didn't win, but we had an awesome time parading in front of an audience! -On Sunday, when the con was winding down and we were among the last people there, crew members asked us if we wanted some 3-day goodie bags that were left over! As lowly two-day pass holders, we were quite happy with our free poster, badge, coaster and sticker! My other favourite parts of the con: -Getting to hold and take pictures of a genuine meteorite shard after the Creating The Enterprise talk (the artist had brought it along in case anyone wanted to see or hold it). -The behind the scenes talks in general, loads to be learned there! -Getting to ask Michael Dorn a question at the talk. -The museum, with the genuine Data head and the costumes, it was awesome to see some genuine set-used props (especially seeing how jury-rigged some were, like the ray gun that looked like they made it out of a prop pistol, a hot water bottle and a deconstructed candlestick!). -The fellow attendee who, upon hearing that TOS is my favourite Trek series, lent me his badge and let me have his Bobby Clarke auto that he didn't want! -And saving some random German Star Trek books from the ExCel cleaning staff in the Klingon Zone (they were about to put them in the trash, but the Trekkies present stopped them and divided the spoils -- I now have a German-language book about the technical details of the various ships, which I think is really cool).
  23. The morning sessions are 1-400, the afternoon sessions are 400+. But if you have a number in the 1-400 range and you miss the morning session, you are allowed to do the afternoon one (but not vice versa). So you can go anytime for Scott Bakula, but your wife will have to go to the afternoon session.
  24. Are the debates on the Stunt Stage first come, first served too?
  25. If you check here http://www.startreklondon.com/timetables and click on Friday photos, you'll see that Mr Shatner's session is at 15.00.
