  1. Honestly, I hope the organisers don't feel disheartened by the negative comments. What they managed to achieve, in getting 40 actors from the Star Trek universe in one place and manage the photos and autos etc is simply massive. I hope they have the courage to do it again.
  2. I got Brent Spiners autograph, he spent 5 minutes chatting with his handler and Michael Dorn about cellphones and cellphone covers which meant I got to hang about listening.
  3. My 2p... The positives; 1. The VQ system worked well. I was able to get the autographs I wanted and at roughly the time anticipated by the queue manager. 2. A big thanks to those guests who made themselves available on Stage B. Stage B talks were generally fantastic, and well received, the fact I was able to get to three of them, made the Con for me. 3. The costumes some people wore were simply amazing. More could have been made of this. 4. The merchandise was good quality but there wasn't enough of it nor co-located. 5. It was amazing that the photos were available immediately. 6. I liked the plastic pass versus a paper ticket. 7. The autographs and photos were realistically priced. 8. The mueseum had some nice pieces. 9. Entry to the Con on the Sunday was better organised than the previous day. Opportunities for the next Con; 1. The section of hall reserved wasn't big enough for the number of people at it's peak on Saturday. Particularly around the Captains queuing area, section A. 2. Queues for Stage B tickets on Saturday was a nightmare, the crew had no idea what tickets were left and how long the wait was. Saturday, I gave up after an hour queuing. Sunday was marginall better, I managed to score 3 talks but missed the one I wanted. 3. Stage B was nowhere near big enough, it should have been as big as the main stage. I find it hard to believe there wasn't sufficient revenue to cover this. 4. The sound system was poor - the guests should have been wired rather than poncing about with Mics. 5. The Federation zone was a missed opportunity - what could have been a celebration of Federation species, histories and show episode guides and trivia, was just a dull area. 6. Total lack of consistency with the guests - some would allow photos at the autograph booths, some would not. Some would not allow posed photos, some would. Some you had to go alone, some you could go with a friend. What made the Con for me, was the Stage B free talks, yes it was nice to meet Brent Spiner, Kate Mulgrew and John DeLancie, it was being able to hear what they had to say, their experiences on Star Trek that was the best. All in all, a good show. Yes, I would do it again.
  4. Whoever can afford these tickets is in for a once in a lifetime experience. I'd pony up but my missus would kill me for spending that much.
  5. At other SM/ME events where you get a group shot it's a bit less than the combined cost of individual photoshoots. But as this is a different event and it hasn't been confirmed there will be one I doubt anyone knows at this point. But given the reasonable photo/auto prices already announced should there be a group shot I'm sure they'll do their best to make it good value. I think there would be tremendous value in having a group shot, after all, why bother getting all 5 Captains in the same place and then NOT photographing them together? Personally, I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a group shot on the basis it'll save queuing time.
  6. A lot of people are staying at the Premier Inn, Travelodge or Crown Plaza. I prefer a full service hotel so I'll be at the Hilton. There's a Novotel at the site which is a bit more upscale and full service. Failing that, why not pamper yourself at the Four Seasons Canary Wharf Remember that the DLR to the ExCel is NOT running on Sat or Sun. So if your hotel is not on site you will either have to walk or try to get on a bus with the thousands of others or get a very expensive taxi. I found that out after I booked my hotel but I don't think it's a big problem.

  8. Let's hope they have the sense to signpost though...
  9. I plan to walk from Canning Town to the event, hopefully there will be signs from the DLR/Tube to Excel otherwise I might take a taxi or a bus. If it's a mile a cab on a meter shouldn't be more than a few pounds.
  10. Wow! What a bargain! I booked Travelodge too, check in on Friday , Check out on Sunday, including a breakfast on Saturday and Sunday as well as dinner on Friday and Saturday, altogether it came down to £142 which is pretty good considering that in most hotels around the Excel it will cost you around £160 just for the accommodation and no food. The only downside is that it's quite a bit away from Excel which might be a bit problematic if you don't have a car like me, but hell I can walk. by the sounds of it, there are quite a few of us staying in this travelodge, so we can all walk together ) Looks like I'll be alone at the Hilton. Unless this is where the guests stay
  11. Give me an email addy and I'll fwd the code.
  12. It would be insane to schedule this for the Friday when most normal people are at work. I would bet on Sat/Sun for this.
