  1. It looks like I wont be going today after all, I'm going to go tomorrow and take my niece with me as she likes the sound of it but shes going somewhere else today. I don't know if any of you will be going both days.
  2. I woulda thought cosplaying would have been an ideal way to network and meet people from other parts of the country or trading contact info. I do have my own quiet moments but it's only if I don't know what to say but in those instances I've found just being around people in the ques helps that so I'm sure when you cosplay, even though you don't need to talk I'm sure you enjoy it even more when there are others around cosplaying too. You can't change who you are. Of course I've been told for years that a horror convention in the UK would not work yet I see horror stars at these shows doing pretty well. That's the kind of people I would most likely mingle with because i'm not into things like Star Wars and The Hobbit and Dr Who but I wish I could make more friends at conventions but because of my interests, my options are limited as to who to talk to and the way things are just now I would not and probably could not walk up to someone and strike up a conversation but at the same time no one is likely to do that with me so it's catch 22. But you cosplayers will be surrounded by good company all weekend.
  3. I don't think anyone who cosplays has confidence issues. I'm still wondering what to say to Robert Englund. I'll be getting his book signed and one hand you want to ask all the questions you have and it be a pleasant experience and obviously it is a solo thing but there are times when it just doesn't work out and before you know it the next person is meeting them and your time is gone. Sometimes I look at ques and I'm grateful there are people there because it helps me get in the mood for it and even though you feel pressured to hurry up and let the person behind you meet them, just hearing the fans in front talk and ask questions can give you ideas on what to ask or talk about and if you're nervous can give you a little boost of confidence. I imagine that's what some cosplayers are like such as yourself. I would never approach people to say hello, it's just not me but it is nice to meet new people
  4. As do I. A bus stops right outside my house and takes me to Braehead.
  5. All is forgiven Sindel. We know it's a busy time of year for you.
  6. London is the capital of the UK. It's where the big productions are, it's where the big TV shows are filmed, it's where celebrities stay for work so naturally there will be a London event and naturall people in England will go to it. There would be uproar if Showmasters announced a huge guest for Glasgow only. No way would the English travel up to Glasgow. The truth of the matter is not only are they used to events on their own doorstep, but they don't have the kind of money required to travel 5+ hours or stay in a hotel room. All their money goes on the events and because it's in their own country, it all works out fine. But the rest of us? Well we need to travel sometimes. That's just what happens. We don't mind public transport or staying in hotel rooms, especially if you're in a city centre then you get to see all the .....things going on lol. That's all it comes it down too. They don't know what it's like to travel anywhere, they don't know what it's like to book accomodation. We shouldn't judge them for it. We should celebrate the way we are in Scotland. I don't think any huge guest would matter to Glasgow because the people in England would 'assume' they would be going there too. They wouldn't feel the need to travel up here. I know another organiser is meant to be doing something similar, or trying to, I haven't heard anything in months but I always suggested a horror movie/cult movie themed convention for Glasgow because they are areas that are not being touched upon strongly enough in the UK. Plenty of horror cons in America, I don't see why a 2 day thing over here wouldn't work as well and when it comes to cult movies, that doesn't just mean old movies, you could argue that most guests you already invite to the show are in cult shows, shows like Doctor Who for example which is very popular. Movie screenings, premieres, cast reunions. You wouldn't need to compete with LFCC because the event would be bringing in a different crowd anyway and you'd be bringing in guests from Doctor Who and Star Wars and all these other franchises that have stood the test of time and they are cult. Not to mention there is a very famous Festival in London in August every year and there is many big actors attend them due to them appearing in the movies shown. I think the fact Robert Englund has worked with Showmasters all these years has shown there is an audience for the horror genre. From what I heard Danielle Harris was kept busy last year too at LFCC. It doesn't need to be a big major event like LFCC, it just needs a hook and people love the horror movies. I even did it for Danielle Harris, I went and did what most people wouldn't do, I paid my travel, I went to London mainly just to meet her and I did it because I knew the chance of her popping up anywhere else in the UK was slim to none. So i had to do the work. Now that I've said that she'll probably never come here again but at least I went and met her. Imagine if that could be said more often for a guest. If i don't go and travel to see this person, will I get the chance to do it again?
  7. Or you could ask him his agents address and get an autograph that way.
  8. I think all the people I will be meeting it will just be 8x10s. I always have nice frames and conservation quality mounts and acid free tape to attach them. I want them to last long after I'm gone and not to do what a lot of autographs do and get damaged by being against the glass frame or going yellow over time. I'll also be looking into different pens, possibly paint pens but I'll see the success rate on those with some of the big autograph dealers and how they hold up over time. I know blue sharpies are still the best for keeping their colour over many many years but blue doesnt show up well on all photos. Also I'll be getting Robert to sign my Freddy glove, some very talented people out there and till on the fence whether to get a custom made one or the replica one. I was thinking maybe a pink or yellow colour for that.
  9. He's done so many great films and work with all the greats.
  10. I don't mind loaning it to a cosplayer to wear during the day if me carrying it is a problem.. Even the replicas are stainless steel blades, they wont be sharp but still it's stainless steel, it's a metal. I suppose it depends on the venue too. Or even watch this video of Robert at Collectormania a few years ago at 3.00 telling a fan he cant take them with him because of customs at the airport and he walks up to Robert with 2 of them! lol Also amazing the amount of time Robert spent with him and his girlfriend.
  11. Robert signs them all the time there wont be any issues. They are for display only, once it's back home that is.
  12. Right now I think Robert Englund is the only definate for me. I'll need to go through all the sites that sell Freddy gloves and pick a really nice one and pay for the proper blades on them and a really well made leather glove inside. I could go down the replica route also but I'm not sure but some gloves that are available are better than the replicas as in they are more durable. I'll need to see what are nice colours to get signed on the backplate of the gloves and get a nice display case. I always regret not seeing him when they first brought him here years ago. I might get a photo shoot but I remember my first photo shoot back in 2007 and believe me I've got a ton of stories from my Collectormania Manchester that year and I think I'll see how I feel on the day. A lot of waiting around for photoshoots and I know Robert makes it fun and jokes around. It depends whether I feel like joking around and doing funny poses on the day!
  13. I think you're wanting a job Brian lol.
  14. As much as Id like to Fooku I wont even ask because I got my knuckles wrapped elsewhere on here for joking about something similar. So to keep the peace I wont ask for names or addresses lol. I think National Express is the only decent option for me. It's the same way with Leeds. If you're coming from SCotland there's not a whole lot of options lol. Maybe you guys are the same if you ever come up to Scotland for the Collectormania shows, probably just depends which city you're in.
  15. I don't drink and I'm not a fan of pubs and bars. Not for me. I think I'll just keep checking National Express and see what the prices are nearer the time as their timetable is a little more easier to work with than Megabus.
  16. Alright Brian, I did apologise before for my joking around. Socialising with people, is one of the things I enjoy about Collectormania Glasgow and everyone I've met lives in Glasgow and still talk to them all and see them all regularly. Hopefully a lot of younger people on here do take it up and join your meetup, I'm sure they will enjoy it.
  17. Megabus can be very cheap but you need to time it right to get the tickets when they go on sale, the ticket prices then go up and up as the date gets closer so that's why I know it will be much cheaper on Megabus, probably around £5 each way. I know there is things to do but it's the times that I don't like. To leave there using the Megabus I need to be at the bus stop at 2am. It's the fact that it is at 2am that is the problem. I know in Glasgow there is some on the weekends that open during the night at the weekend but most cinemas do close before midnight as do theatres and even bowling alleys; If i do go I'll do all that and pass the time. I can't see National Express getting much cheaper but if they do get cheaper 6 weeks before it I will check them out and see what the costs are, the times are at least more reasonable. I do think with the Megabus that it's basically the one leaving from London to Glasgow and it's just making a stop there rather than an actual bus leaving MK. It's an issue I have with Megabus and the fact that it is only once a day and the facf that if it wasn't for those times I know I'd get a really good deal with them. And people say £40 isn't really bad for a return in travel.80'saction fan you really should be looking at alternate ways to travel. You would love the Megabus. I'll keep checking National Express and see nearer the time if anything does get cheaper. I'm trying to budget myself, it's not that I'm a miser that doesn't want to spend any money. I'm just trying to get the best deal and since it seems like right now there isn't much in the way of a really good deal for someone coming from Scotland at the moment and my experience has always been the quicker you book the cheaper it is. I will most likely end up going, I enjoyed meeting him in 2007. I know he got a little annoyed at people wanting him to sign Heroes stuff lol. I was number 9 in the Virtual Ticket que and one of the first in the door on the first day. I really didn't think he would come back to a show in the UK and I know doesn't like the UK now or the NHS or the government and is very outspoken about the UK. In 2007 I treated it as a one time thing, now I really am seeing it that way as he is 69 and doesn't seem to be slowing down. It's a different reason than most of you will have for meeting a guest. In a way it's like Vincent Price used to be. He did a bit of everything, classicly trained actor, worked in the theatre for many years, worked with all the best directors and actors, most of which are 6 feet under the ground now. He's a step up from most other actors. If people delved into his IMDB page you'd see some of the best actors and directors ever on there. So many stories to tell. I suppose Christopher Lee is a bit like that too. These are the kind of people you can meet and be humbled by them and just shaking their hand means something.
  18. People were offended? Well that's fair enough. The UK is a nanny state, you live in Germany Sindel so you wont really understand just how under the thumb the UK people are. But I don't live my life that way and I like to be free and think freely and act freely, which I'll do at any meetups and I'll do it in August at Collectormania. This thread is for Scottish people to meet up. Everyone here either lives in Glasgow or lives nearby so when I reply in this thread that's the only people I have in mind and am thinking about but I realise I should pay more attention to the English and the Welsh and the Northern Irish that visit the forum and understand that they might be offended by anything I joked about which most adults do I think. There's talk in here about pubs and dinners, no one under 18 years old would be going anyway to any meetup. But we're all brought up differently and I understand that and I apologise for anyone I offended.
  19. Megabus is cheaper though. I undestand all that about guests doing work but the living legend signed a year in advance last time and he's always working, he will always be under caution due to him having so many films he has going on. I think in this case SM have left it late to ask him, which is fine but if it was me I would have approached him sooner.
  20. Well until more effort is put into Collectormania Glasgow I've no option but to go to England but I don't see it as a long way for one autograph. I did pretty much the same at London last year but there was transport leaving London for Glasgow all day so I could get there early, go to the show, spend the day in London and then leave for home in the early evening. Right now I'm looking at my options, National Express have bugger all for the 3 days and pretty much the days leading up to it. Trains are too expensive at this time hence me saying it's been announced too close to the event. If you don't mind spending lots of money then it wont be an issue for you but if you're like me and you only wanna go, get what you're getting and get out then you want to get a good deal on the travel. I don't mind spending hours on a bus or coach which incidentally take the same amount of time as a train does, believe me a train doesn't get you there and back quicker. It's not like I'm asking for a hotel or anything fancy. I really doubt they will do it but right now I hope they do announce Malcolm for another show and i remember when they first brought him to Manchester, it was close to a year in advance and it was a big deal. It's probably like a Gillian Anderson for you lot right? I remember last year the fuss you all made and people standing for hours paying all sorts to meet her and get a photo with her. You wouldn't tell anyone not to go see Gillian, just to meet her would you? Or what would you say? Oh she might not do many of these conventions? Well I could say the same for Malcolm who hasn't done a show here in 6 years.
  21. I wish he was coming to this event.
  22. I don't see the point in staying the night because the method I'm using uses only those times as travel to Glasgow. It doesn't matter what day it is, the only bus out of there to Glasgow is at 2am. That's it. Trains are too expensive. I would have gone with National Express but they have nothing for those 3 days so there's not a whole lot I can do there and also it's quite soon. I'm a little dissapointed that Malcolm has been announced this close to the event because I consider him to be a big name and I feel as if this is all last minute and I don't like doing things last minute especially when my options are limited and the options that I do have available to me right now are so strict. I think it's more of a hassle rather than anything and even if it was the other way around and there was lots of people I wanted to meet, it's still a long day and a long night. Maybe it's just Milton Keynes and there's not a lot of ways out to Scotland.
