  1. For me she is though I've met her a few times now and don't really need to again but equally I know people who don't know who she is. All a matter of what you're into. Other than her, there's no-one I'm even remotely interested in meeting. Worst lineup for me for many, many years and I know a lot of people who normally go but aren't this time though I'm sure there will be people who feel the opposite. There's still time to add to it but I do wonder if there's too many shows too close together now, it's all spread too thinly and it appears this show has suffered badly. There's more people at Cardiff I'd be interested in but can't justify the cost of going to that. This is really rather disappointing though I suppose it's saving me money.
  2. Ask them a question that only a true fan could answer on the spot? Or personalise the item. But even real fans will have multi signed items that they wouldn't want personalising so that wouldn't be fair on them. I've got posters with loads of signatures on that aren't personalised that I have no intention of selling, just feel they look better without my name all over them.
  3. Yep, archive the thread and let it all die down as issues at more current events crop up.
  4. Can't really blame him. Heard so many horror stories about the way some dealers behave at premiers and stage doors I'm surprised more people don't have this kind of attitude. It's slowly killing our hobby if you ask me. How do you tell a "genuine fan" from someone who's just going to try and sell it?
  5. At the moment will only be going as it's fairly local, free and I'll be looking for something from the stalls on behalf of a friend. Might meet Amanda again but not essential and not interested in anyone else so far announced. First time in years that there's no-one of interest for me but I dare say there will be people saying it's great and meeting loads. That's the way it goes.
  6. I have no problem this post being deleted but to raise one further point, if what she has posted is bad enough to get banned, why is this thread, that she started, still on here? I assume what has been said here was a trigger given the timing, in which case it's a bit hypocritcal to ban the person who created it but leave what they said on the forum.
  7. That's ok then is it? What if you'd budgeted very carefully for the advertised amount, as many did, seen that other people had paid that price and when you went up it had changed, would you be happy? I suspect not.
  8. Great write up. So glad you had the courage to do all that you did and it became such a positive experience. Excuse me for quoting from it but I really liked this line "friends are the single most valuable help someone struggling with mental health issues such as depression can have." While not the same as you, I've been struggling with depression and anxiety this year and have been off work most of the year and only now am I slowly trying it in short bursts. It's been friends and having these events to go to that have helped keep me here during the darkest times although I did struggle with the crowds at the summer event and had to go and find a quieter spot to sit more often than I normally would. I've been amazed at how non-judgmental they have been, how supportive and how many have gone through similar things. I know they don't like me saying so but I so appreciate them and I'm not sure where I'd be now without their regular contact and interest in my welbeing. I'm so glad to see you have that in your life too. And you've gone a step further than me even as I've never seriously considered cosplaying. Now you've done it, hopefully it'll give you the confidence to take other small steps forward in your life. Thanks for sharing. I know it's not easy talking about these things but it's good to hear another positive story.
  9. I'm sorry but a photo at the desk is a bonus, not anything you can expect. Sounds like completely unreasonable behaviour from the attendee. And this is a different case to the one I was referring to in my other reply.
  10. I've had a guest before (won't mention who) that told me she couldn't pose with a pic a friend had drawn of her, because it wasn't allowed. But she said if she put said pic next to her, and happened to look up as the camera went off, then what could they do. Kinda suggests to me she was more than happen to pose, but had been told not to do so. I've commented in my blog review about something that happened to me early on Saturday regarding this very matter which meant I didn't get a photo with a particular guest when the two people in front of me did. Though I hasten to add that what happened in my case had nothing to do with SM or even the guest who was great to meet and clearly had been happy to do photos, it was purely from the agent instructing the guest and crew member to stop posed photos because they needed to sell more photoshoot tickets. As I said, nothing to do with SM or the guest and this won't be the reason in all cases, I know some people react badly to flashes or are too old to keep getting up and down etc. Though my friend got one with the same guest later on Sunday when it was really quiet but them's the breaks. Posed photos I always treat as a bonus. Some people won't meet a guest if they aren't doing posed photos but I don't go that far. Hearing the reason for it though did make me feel like I was being bullied into buying a proper photoshoot which I did not have the money to do when the guest was clearly happy to do them at the start. Maybe they should start considering bringing in the system often used in the US where you pay a smaller amount to get a desk photo on your own camera, say £5. Those that don't want a professional one can still guarantee getting one and everyone else makes a bit of extra that they wouldn't have got because the person wouldn't have bought a professional shoot. Just a thought may be and although it would be more expense, would it not keep everyone happy and solve this recurring issue?
  11. If anyone is interested, my personal experiences and write up of Saturday (didn't go Sunday) is on my blog here.
  12. That looks really good. My friend met him and explained to me afterwards how he does the rain effect. Fascinating and looks brilliant.
  13. I bumped into you just as I got to the signing area so must have been around 9:30, maybe fraction earlier and I think you were heading in his direction then if that helps.
  14. My photos from Saturday are now online. https://picasaweb.google.com/howard.crowe/LondonFilmComicConWinter2014 Mostly just the BSG people but a few others. Had no real reason to go back today though in the end so possibly should have taken more yesterday.
  15. Amazing photos! Mine are all yellow from the lighting, sadly! Thanks and yes, that's one of the problems for that venue. You need to either adjust the white balance on your camera or try and do it in an editor afterwards. It is possible. My new camera did it really well automatically but my old one needed more adjusting. If I recall I think Tungsten is the closest to the colour temperature of those lights but as this will be the last event in that venue, it won't be an issue again. I'll get my full gallery up soon, maybe tomorrow and add the link here.
  16. Seemed busier than last winter one to me but it's always quieter, fewer high profile guests (IMO) and the summer was really escalated out of all proportion by the Stan Lee effect. I was finished just after 10:30 apart from the BSG talk but it was great to spend time with friends and actually wander around the stalls without fighting every step of the way.
  17. No one seems to have started this one yet so while I'm going through my photos, here's a few examples. Only met Katee Sackhoff, Michael Trucco and Ryan Robbins and go to the BSG talk but happy with my photos. A few cosplay ones this time too.
  18. If it's anything like last year you should be able to walk straight in arriving at that time.
  19. Last few years this show has been nothing like the summer one, very much quieter. Think last year I rocked up about 8:45 to pay on the day and there weren't many people in front of me. Year before I was there about 9:10 and the queues had already gone in. Obviously no guarantee but I'm not expecting big queues personally and certainly nothing like the summer one.
  20. You don't wait for the photo, it's printed instantly and you collect it as you leave the photoshoot area. Can't comment on the scheduling but presumably the assumption has to be that you're able to be there all day. There will always be someone who has an issue with some part of the schedule.
  21. Only one photoshoot so no clashes but it's late in the day. Dunno if it's been mentioned but will the talks be ticketed or is it just turn up and queue? Last year you needed to collect free tickets from the talk area if I recall.
  22. The signing area is normally at the rear of the hall so when you go in, just head to the back. Sometimes we get a rough layout plan posted in the forum but it won't say exactly which guest is where. You have to go see who's where on the day. Not all guests will be using VQ tickets but there will be a crew person at the end of each guests line handing out any tickets for that guest if they are. It's pretty obvious as other people will be getting them and the crew member will be holding a pile of tickets. So you have to go round and find each guest you want to meet and see if tickets are being handed out for them or not. VQ tickets are guest and day specific so if you get one for Saturday but don't meet that guest you have to get a new ticket on Sunday. It's quite straightforward and there will be crew around to ask if you're not sure.
