  1. Well, i think im going to follow your example and use the extra space in the big case for some cans and some snacks
  2. Well i had a pint and my mate had a 25ml of rum and coke. I had a tenner in my hand thinking that would be enough...... came to £13. Ouch... I was planning to take a bottle of JD and some coke and a few snacks, if things are so crazy priced I might have t bring more food and booze a newb question but how do the parties work? Ppl have drinks beforehand or take their own? Or are they a sober gatherings
  3. A fiver a pint, that's a touch high, right... I'm gonna need a bigger case...
  4. Looks like I'm gonna have to make some room in the case for some snacks
  5. Protest during the panels and not go to the panels are quite different, is the point but your right, moot point - BJS isn't coming and I'm rethinking it myself as well
  6. Were still missing the point entirely, leaving a talk you don't enjoy, fine - understandable planning ahead of time to go to a talk you have no intention of enjoying and walking out with a group of friends, organised, disrespectful protest wouldn't matter whether it was brian or any other guest, it's not about me sticking up for him here, that's unacceptable no matter who it's directed at it's fine I guess, we can play word scemantics and talk about language barriers and perhaps people are just expressing their opinions but I'm also expressing mine and I have a feeling everybody in this post knows enough to know what's rude and those that would find a planned walkout acceptable have no grounds being this shocked and offended by three 140 character announcente on the Internet that "could" have been missenterpreted that's the point I'm trying to make, however unsuccessfully...
  7. In my book a protest is a protest, right now i have little interest in hearing what a three episode guest star from 10 years ago will have to say, or a 6 episode guest star from 2 years ago that i honestly had to google before i recognised, but will i go there and walk out when they speak? no, if i felt that strongly about not wanting to see them i'd go have a drink in the bar during their panel - and who knows, they may change my mind upon meeting them, thats what meeting the stars is all about. I look at gateworld, thats a different forum, here - on the organisers forum we have a post that references the possiblity of a group protest should a certain guest attend If thats mature, then our barometers for maturity must differ greatly
  8. Protest? Anybody who openly talks of protesting a guest attending at the event should really risk being denied entry, it's the height of rudeness to the guest and other attendees and causes disruption to many. I'm not entirely pleased about some of the other guests, but they'll get my respect at the panels as they have no reason not to I really think the mods should consider whether a comment on their forums about protesting any guest in any situation should be viewed unfavorablely
  9. Probably wasn't the best idea to announce it on there first then I wouldn't claim to know the guy well but brian isn't the sort of person to just wake up and decide to tweet it on a whim, I'm convinced he wouldn't have announced it himself unless he thought it had already worked it's was to the organisers via his booking agent/manager
  10. This would have been his first convention ever "solo" as in without other cast members from SGU
  11. Yeah, call me Ez - most do, no not scared just, dissapointed at the situation, cancellation and reaction - i'm a fan of all SG but ive been more involved in the fandom with SGU. I run the HiatusProject live chats for SGU fans during the shows hiatus, we've had guests from the show come along, amoung them Brian J Smith. so im very supportive of the cast. If im coming over as to negative over here its not intended its just my small efforts to try make sure BJS doesnt get the fuzzy end of this particular lolly pop. Convention newb that i am, is it likely Brian will get replaced at this late stage? or is it more likely the con will remain a 5some?
  12. I dont know what happened there so i cant comment, i can only assume the following: actors rarely book these things directly themselves, they have agents and managers who are paid to handle things professionally, usually by the time the actor has been able to say anything, its already been handled by them - has anybody asked Brian whether he tweeted his cancellation thinking it had already made its way to SM/ME? As far as the circumstances, i also think he should say something, i still think he should, in regards to the person he's tweeting, hes just a guy and he got some abuse from said person, he responded in kind, maybe he shouldnt because hes in the public eye and should know better but... if somebody tweets me rude, i respond in kind
  13. Huge SG-1 fan here. Actually I even was a fan of the movie. *ducks* Yet I didn't make it past episode 1 myself. And a lot of the old school fans did not get much more far. I think actually that's the problem, the newer fans seem to be a lot more excited. For me it is missing everything that I loved and treasured of Stargate. To me it feels like they found a concept and decided to try and get more viewers in by slapping it into the SG franchise. I always say I can accept it as a sci fi series. Not like, but accept. But for me it just is not Stargate. I started with the original show because of RDA and was intrigued how well they built up on the concept from the movie. I gave the new show a chance because of Robert Carlyle and because I wanted to like it, but unfortunately the sparks just did not fly. Im the same as you, been a stargate fan since the movie, i've seen everything they've put out, each show has had its characters and its epsiodes that i havent liked but i've always found more to like than to not. I think alot of this (when i say "this" i mean the general feeling that SGA and SGU are against eachother) comes from the fact that they announced the cancellation of Atlantis at the same time as the launch of Universe, those two shows - and unfortunately small groups of their fans are always going to be against eachother, thats already caused problems online and, it has alot of the SGU people on high alert. I hope it doesnt contribute to an issue like this in the future, i hope that this con (my first) is the beginning of me getting out there and meeting fans and cast/crew alike, but im more interested in meeting anybody from SGU than i am the majority of the SGA cast, which is just personal preference...
  14. I've seen it, i think the person who tweeted him should have expected an unfriendly reply, none of us know the ins and outs of this, its likely we never will - but to go off half spam and call the guy anything or tell him what he owes his career to is asking for trouble. I maintain that all of this would look different with context, i dont feel we have the full facts EDIT: woops, hit a filter there - hopefully "half spam" doesnt confuse people too much lol
  15. Thats kind of the topic im trying to talk around, without context Brian comes off as the bad guy... with context im sure its not the case
