Showmasters Admin showmasters Posted May 16, 2013 Showmasters Admin Share Posted May 16, 2013 We are sorry to announce that Sylvester McCoy will no longer be joining us for Collectormania 19 due to his filming schedule in New Zealand on The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. Photoshoot tickets will be refunded back onto the card from which they were purchased automatically. We look forward to seeing him later on in the year and we wish him luck with his future work. angelbacchae
So many cancellations this time. I know it happens, but still. I wonder if SM can come up with any new guests in such a short time what is left..

jonathan
To be fair though the line up is still brilliant and at least he is still scheduled for other events. Although I wonder if he will be able to attend LFCC in July and Cardiff in September? Fingers crossed.... Edited May 16, 2013 by jonathan
angelbacchae
Oh yes, it is indeed a great line up! But I guess my money purse isn't feeling the same way..

grantweiler
It is rather annoying that its three Doctor Who guests that have dropped out. Hopefully if there are replacements they'll also be at least one Who replacement amongst them as its becoming a poor showing for the 50th anniversary year photoshoots wise :-(
Beechy08
Don't forget that CM20 is a lot closer to the 50th anniversary than this CM, with the 50th anniversary special being shown in November. I expect CM20 will be much more Who-centred

Last year, Finn Jones was announced just before, and Amandla Stenberg a week before, so i'm still hoping for some more DW guests... There's still time... Moderators DavidB Posted May 16, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 16, 2013 Did they not ask about this when booking him? It's not like it's a new film. Everyone knew he would be in it. It's why I won't book in advance anymore. Shame. He wouldn't have signed up if it was already scheduled. Sadly with currently working guests it's always possible. If you can afford to not book in advance and prefer to wait then go for it. Whatever is best for you :)
TommyT
Did they not ask about this when booking him? It's not like it's a new film. Everyone knew he would be in it.They don't keep every actor in a film sat out on location or set for the entire period of shooting. Presumably at the time he signed up for the show, his shooting schedule didn't cover this particular period. Now it does. Shooting schedules change all the time. Sometimes it overruns, or moves quicker than expected, or gets shuffled around for any one of a number of reasons. These things happen.
marktimelord
Well said TommyT, plus actors will be called back months later to do pick up shots that may have been missed. With The Hobbit being such a huge production there will be lots of these and actors can get the call at anytime. So yes it is disappointing when a guest cancels but it can hardly be Showmasters fault when the actor will already have signed a contract to appear in the film. Relax people there are still lots of great guests and more conventions in the future.

Sherlock's taking a filming break while Martin Freeman goes off to NZ for this. Edited May 17, 2013 by laurab1

GwimWeeper
So gutted about this - he was one of the main reasons I'm coming I've tried to meet him on 10 occasions in the last 20 years and every time, either he's unable to attend or I'm not... I think I'm cursed... Is there any chance of another Doctor being booked at this late stage? (it IS the 50th Anniversary year, so it seem a shame that its the first since 2009 without one )
Rockstar6662
He's listed as attending LFCC in July unless I've missed something. Maybe you can make it to that.
GwimWeeper
Will try, but I'm due to move to Romania close to then, so could be a problem... We'll see what happened in the future.... or something like that...
