12 hour drive! Joy at the end,

Recommended Posts

I know a new topic is a bit selfish but twice a year I drive from Glagow to London for Showmaster events.this year was amazing....I can fault nothing but the talks and the staff.

Talks.....don't make them paid!!!! The worst thing you have ever done. Hayden for example did a voice in Bugs Life,,,,who knew, no one cause the talk was painful,,,,here's a clue,,,,have the talk for free....get a speaker to give an over view of the star and then questions...li bet more would pay for autos after a good free talk than a couple of die hard fans for a boring...

The staff, Pay for proffessionals,,,,or at least put your experienced staff at the ticket desk. I found it embarrasing. Sorry

I travelled down from Glasgow too, I didn't do any talks at this one so I can't comment on them but I have heard a lot of negative feedback.

But I think free talks is a great idea, it really would make more people buy a photo/autograph. I know that when I attend an all weekend convention I don't decide whether to get a photo with a certain guest until I see him/her in the talk. And tbh I've gotten a photo with every single guest at every single convention because I fell in love with them during their talks.

So I know that if I'd be at lots of talks at the weekend there, I would have gotten so many more autos/photos for sure.

As for the staff, I had no problem at the ticket desk but I did find a specific member of the crew very rude...the same one who I found to be rude at Collectormania and one of the security guards (not sure that's SMs problem though?) didn't allow me to hug a guest in the photo shoot even though the guest had already told me it was 100% fine and had already begun to hug me)

Excuse me? As a volunteer I find your comments very rude, we don't get anything out of it, we do it because we enjoy it!

Rude???? i said it was embarrasing how is that rude??? I went with my wife and friends gushing about the Showmasters exprience and got to the ticket table and was met by a young girl with no people experience or skills required to deal with a busy table. I had the right amount of cash in my hand and wanted 3 tickets as i preordered the rest. i waitned 5 minutes and was polite through out as the girl got my tickets and placed them infront of me and then went and talked to some other customer behined me and left me standing. Again i remained polite but felt EMBARRASED for Showmasters and my friends as to how inaddequate the staff were at this station. How this is rude of me i have no idea...i am a customer and can comment on such things.

I'm sure Showmasters would gladly hire professionals and charge you £200 to attend then up the price of the photos, autos and talks. Excellent idea. Let's make the whole thing inaccessible to every one but the rich.

£200.00 how did you get to that intresting figure????

Just asking

Based on the fact that I have been to other conventions which charge that much and their staff are STILL volunteers. Believe me, having seen how other conventions are run, give me showmasters any day. My point was that if you want Showmasters to hire in a bunch of professionals then it will cost an awful lot more.

I'm pleased for you that you've obviously never had to learn the ropes of a new job or got a bit flustered when your busy and stressed. Having worked in retail for many years before my career change, I can assure you that it happens to the best of us. I was lucky. When it happened to me there weren't forums for people to come on an attempt to annihilate me.

Okay, all i was trying to say was that if someone is new, flustered or nervous perhaps putting them on a station that is busy and stressful is not the best thing.

I really dont think i am "annihilating" anyone and i am sorry if it comes across as that. I have no idea who you are and have not directed any comments to you, i was mearly unhappy with some of the service i recieved from staff at the event.

I will also go on record that many many of the stafff were fantastic and helpful. I just feel the really experinced ones should be at the busy desks not those, as you rightly say are new to the job which appears to be the case from you post.

I have no wish to offend and if i did i apoligise.

If staff were paid and did a good job (they'd be sacked else!), profits would rise because more visitors would be happier than disappointed. At MK, I was disgusted with a certain aspect of the running of the show and deliberately withheld three-quarters of my budget. Untrained, incompetent "staff" will always show the whole organisation in a bad light. Are we to assume as well that Showmasters is non-profit-making? I think not.

Goodie - may I suggest considering locking this topic? It doesn't seem to be going anywhere, and it will still be here for Showmasters to read your feedback.

I can do that if you're happy with it. I just don't wish for arguments to happen and for the topic to get ruined.
